Re: A random question, related to screen readers in general

A Google Search for something like percent of
screen-reader users use Braille produced this as one result:
If you search for the word Braille and repeat the
search until you get to the relevant content, you will find information about
the number of users of different screen-readers who use Braille
output.

Dear all. as you all know, NVDA 2018.4 is on the way. at the moment, the developers' version is available to check for probable problems. there's a problem which I have seen with different versions of NVDA. it won't say anything in Visual Basic in Microsoft visual studio. I have tried it on Microsoft visual studio 2010. it's fine with the design area. but it keeps being completely silent while the text editor area is on the foreground. I have no account on Github. but if you have one, please let them know about this very significant problem, so that it can be fixed in the next release. it's kind of important. because you can't simply edit what you write within the text-editing environment. as a result, programming gets difficult on visual basic in microsoft visual studio 2010, using NVDA. please do tell the NVAccess team about this major problem. note: this is not the case with JAWS. it's fine with VB in MS Visual Studio 2010. you can easily move with design and text-editing area with jaws. therefore, you can easily edit what you've written in the text editor environment.
let's keep in mind, this is not the only case. NVDA crashes as you let it get updated out of addon updator but mannually restart it. as you know, while using addon updater, it lets you know when there are addons to update, after installing, NVDA asks you to let it restart. if you choose yes, NVDA will restart, but after rebooting, you will see a couple of NVDAs on the system tray. if you press enter on one of them it will disappear. if you say no, and then you will mannually exit and reload NVDA, it will crash after a few seconds, and won't reload unless you sign out and sign in again. I should mention that all these cases have taken place in windows 10 18.9 64 bit latest update. thanks again. take care.

Re: Issues using Flash Based Voicemail Website
Gene
I think removing Flash is an unnecessary way to
deal with the question. Just disable it so you can enable it if needed
again.
Also, using No Script, I suspect, is as or more
important for security than whether you have Flash running, if you keep Flash
updated. I don't know enough about this to know if this is the best way to
use it, but I have noscript running and I have top level sites allowed. I
believe that allows the actual site you open to run scripts and a small number
of approved sites but I haven't looked into it. I may do so. I just
started using No Script about a week ago and I haven't learned a lot about
it.

Re: Nvda beta
Brian's Mail list account
Yes I think we all get that in certain edit fields. Its not actually a destructive error but on betas the errors are on by default, not so on the release version. I suspect that if you, for example ran an earlier snapshot or even one of the alpha snaps, the same thing is going to occur.

Re: Dropbox and nvda again
Brian's Mail list account
Well, We have two different machines one on 7 home the other on the main version. Both these cannot read the windows and dialogues of dropbox, though it can read the up to date, but I have asked a sighted person to look at the remote machine and they can see the preferences the share dialogue the log in dialogue which do not work on either for me.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
My main issue is then, what can have caused the issue with nvda and Jaws? My guess is that its a windows DLL which has become deregistered or for changed at some point in the past, but on both machines? That does seem awfully odd. The one common things was that somebody inadvertently put Avast on them both some months ago, and I had to run avastclear to get rid of it. It was interfering with most stuff. So if anyone knows which dll is implicated in not being able to read the window types these dropbox bits use, then I'm all ears and will be happy to try putting a pristine copy back.as I said before, when I did an sfc and put the stuff back it did not fix it and indeed screwed up all the email links which meant reinstalling the email clients again. Such is life in Windows I guess. For reasons of software compatibility I cannot go windows 10 on these machines as an audio editing package which is no longer developed is in use. Brian bglists@... Re: accessible drive partition resizing
Richard,
There are a number of tools that allow you to extend existing partitions into unallocated space, or shrink partitions not anywhere near to full to allow unused space to be set up as new partitions (or left unallocated). What I can't say is which are accessible, or how accessible if only partially accessible. The following are free, so you can afford to play with them: MiniTool Partition Wizard Version 10.3 See also for details: https://www.partitionwizard.com/help/resize-partition.html and https://www.partitionwizard.com/help/delete-partition.html EaseUS Partition Master Free Version 12.10 -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep. ~ Saul Bellow, To Jerusalem and Back

Hi Gene
Use screen layout does not work in microsoft edge here I am using windows 10 version 1809 but does on other browsers if needed. I always have mine turned off.
The other way i would do it is either the elements list which works in the edge browser or maybe use the find command. I will make edge teh default browser and see if i can get it to do the same.

Re: Need help with help.
Gene
That is a setting I recommend against using unless
you are working with specific kinds of sites such as message boards. I
consider it to generally be desirable to have each link on a separate page, in
other words, having use screen layout turned off. There are all sorts of
ways to get to the link such as tabbing or shift tabbing, but being on the link
is not the problem. the original message says that Max can see the text
change but the screen-reader keeps reading the table of contents. the link
has been activated. It appears that the problem is how the Edge browser
works with this page. So if that is the case, people can use my method or
they can use a different browser.

There is also a settings under the browse mode settings where this can be done either checked for on or unchecked for off. See if that does it. Gene nz On 25/11/2018 6:02 AM, MAX wrote:
