Screen-reader designers shouldn't make editorial decisions about what a screen-reader reads that a program displays. Unless this content isn't seen by sighted people, Windows should read it.
The ispronounciation of source is the result of the synthesizer you are using and not NVDA. Are you saying it mispronounces that sound in general or just in the word source?

Re: A couple of small annoyances.

Screen-reader designers shouldn't make editorial
decisions about what a screen-reader reads that a program displays. Unless
this content isn't seen by sighted people, Windows should read it.
The ispronounciation of source is the result of the
synthesizer you are using and not NVDA. Are you saying it mispronounces
that sound in general or just in the word source?

are important enough to fix. Here goes anyway. When I am opening a file in word I press control O and then tab twice. Nvda says recently opened files. You haven't opened any files recently. This was not unexpected the first time I opened a file after installing nvda. However, I use word every day and the message continues. At first it was a laugh, then a smile and now it's I wish it wouldn't do that. Another thing is the pronunciation of s o u r c e. In the united states source rhymes with horse not with farce as nvda pronounces it. I have tried to fix it in the dictionary but when I replace the h in horse with an s it goes back to the rhyme with farce. Well, I guess that's just the way it is. 73 (Regards). Max. K 4 O DS. Re: some unsolved problems about NVDA
Gene
Firefox hasn't done away with the menu. press
f11 and the menus should return. when menus disappear from a program, its
usually because it is set for full screen, which is not the same as
maximized. Full screen causes the menus not to appear because the content
window is using the full screen. F11 is the usual toggle short cut key for
full screen.
Popups are likely the result of
adware.
Does tabbing also solve the link
activation problem? If you can't activate a link, tab or shift tab away
from it, then tab to be properly on the link. Using the arrow keys may not
place you at the right part of the link. Tab moves you forward to every
link and control on a web page and shift tab moves you backward. Those are
Windows commands and it can be used with or without a
screen-reader.

Subject: Re: [nvda] some unsolved problems about NVDA I wish to thank everyone who responded to my question. The major part of the problem turned out to be MS edge. I had stopped using Google Chrome when it started giving me pop up advertising I didn’t want. I switched back to it and the nvda help works fine and I am not getting pop ups. If I start getting them again I’ll be back for help with the problem. I have tried fire fox but I can’t find the menu. It seems as if they have done away with it. The other part of the problem was solved by using the right arrow to get off of the bullet. I looked at the source code and I see they are being generated by ul in html code. What happens if you put the li token inside of the anchor? I have left off the less than and greater than symbols in case some have their email set to recognize html code.

Dear all. as you all know, NVDA 2018.4 is on the way. at the moment, the developers' version is available to check for probable problems. there's a problem which I have seen with different versions of NVDA. it won't say anything in Visual Basic in Microsoft visual studio. I have tried it on Microsoft visual studio 2010. it's fine with the design area. but it keeps being completely silent while the text editor area is on the foreground. I have no account on Github. but if you have one, please let them know about this very significant problem, so that it can be fixed in the next release. it's kind of important. because you can't simply edit what you write within the text-editing environment. as a result, programming gets difficult on visual basic in microsoft visual studio 2010, using NVDA. please do tell the NVAccess team about this major problem. note: this is not the case with JAWS. it's fine with VB in MS Visual Studio 2010. you can easily move with design and text-editing area with jaws. therefore, you can easily edit what you've written in the text editor environment.
let's keep in mind, this is not the only case. NVDA crashes as you let it get updated out of addon updator but mannually restart it. as you know, while using addon updater, it lets you know when there are addons to update, after installing, NVDA asks you to let it restart. if you choose yes, NVDA will restart, but after rebooting, you will see a couple of NVDAs on the system tray. if you press enter on one of them it will disappear. if you say no, and then you will mannually exit and reload NVDA, it will crash after a few seconds, and won't reload unless you sign out and sign in again. I should mention that all these cases have taken place in windows 10 18.9 64 bit latest update. thanks again. take care.
