Except that the archives are public.
Except that people from different companies, those that develop such products at a cost, have a presence here, and if the image given by the community is one of people that never want to pay for their products, they may give up making efforts to solve some nvda users problems.
except that in theory the group could be closed by groups.io because of such talk.

Re: Windows 10 Mail

If you're interested in rolling back to a version of windows mail - the
version before windows live mail, that's effectively/basically the same
as outlook express, then you can find a sort of zipped package on the
following page:
http://opopanax.net/download/

You'll have to look for the heading called windows mail there, since
there are a few other packages there, including a possible talking,
external boot-up instance of windows 10, but anyway.

And, be warned that it's nothing like just a simple install, and go,
since you have to read the instructions, and make sure you follow the
right steps, and the sort of readme warns you that windows service packs
could possibly mess up the state of the package later on.

But, this is what am currently using uner windows 10 64 bit, and it works just fine with NVDA, etc.

Dear All,

I am using Windows 10 Mail. There is only one problem. In the reading panel I need to select whatever I want to read, before NVDA will read it to me. When I compose a message, it reads after each word I type, but then I have to select it if I want to go back and read again what I have written. Any suggestions?

Warmly,

Try disabling this setting in Document Formatting dialog (NVDA+Control+D):
Report table row/column headers.
Will test it myself now.

I'm new to using NVDA on a fulltime basis and after reading the manual, I'm

The question of using karet-browsing mode only comes up on NVDA+F7 after I have tried the NVDA+spacebar. Before pressing NVDA+spacebar, NVDA+F7 produces a list of links, however, selecting a link from that list and then pressing Enter only takes me back to the display screen as if nothing had happened.

Actually, if I use the same browser on this same website, but, use Jaws instead of NVDA, there is no problem. And, if I use NVDA on this same website and access it using FireFox, there is no problem.

I understand all of those alternatives and I have been using whatever works. I just hate to let a mystery go unsolved!

Thanks a lot!

Carret Browsing Mode has nothing to do with a screen-reader. It is a browser feature and is of no use to blind users. If NVDA key 7 causes your browser to ask about carrote browse mode, it is because your browser isn't working with NVDA properly and it can't execute the NVdA command to bring up the links list. Sometimes, the only reasonable thing to do when problems arise is to use another browser. If the problem only occurs on one site, then you can use a different browser on only one site. We will probably never know why this obscure problem occurs on your machine using one web site, one browser, and NVDA. At this point, the question is, what happens when you use another browser?

Well, I have tried that in the past and I tried it again, just now.

What happens after I press NVDA+spacebar

I can use the arrow keys to review the display, however, when I stop on a
link, such as SIGN IN, and press numpad8 I hear a very long line of what
sounds like the code used to build the website display. And, if I press
NVDA+F7, I am asked if I want to switch to karet-browsing mode. I have
tried that without success.

I have considered uninstalling NVDA and reinstalling, however, This behavior
began while was still running NVDA version 2015.4, so, I thought that
installing NVDA 2016.1 might resolve the problem. No such luck! I have
tried resetting NVDA to factory defaults, also, without success.

Mystifying, not to mention, frustrating!

I'll attempt any other suggestions.

When I press NVDAKey+NumPad5, I hear

I'm guessing that "read only" probably has something to do with the
reason why links and buttons are inoperable, however, I have changed
several of NVDA's settings with no change in this behavior.

I have looked at various settings in I E 11 and found nothing I would

either, until recently.

What am I overlooking?

I see that that site contains no licencing information to indicate that the
items available for download are legal, and I notice that the VMware directory
contains installed VMs of several versions of Microsoft Windows, which are
certainly not legally available with buying a licence, therefore I advise
anyone visiting the site to consider carefully before downloading anything.

I suspect they get it cheaper if they only allow it to be used by their program. In the old days screenreader makers used to allow other software to use the voices, but seemingly that is a very bad idea. cycnic in me wonderers if they are serving us well in this regard.

Thanks all, I was hoping I could avoid registry editing, but somehow figured it was inevitable.

I didn’t even consider that the truvoice engine was part of Zt.

Hi. Is this the true voice which comes with zoomtext? if so, it will not work with any other product as it is locked to zoomtext. I am not aware of any other product that includes true voice by default but I might be wrong about that.

With the one that is included with zt, it will not work with any other program than zoom text.

Hi,
You can try deleting your config directory.
To access it you can press Windows+R and type "%appdata%" without quotes. Delete the NVDA inside it.

Hello,

I downloaded NVDA as a trial to see how it might work for my agency’s consumers—When I changed the synthesized voice to one of the Truvoice options, I got a dialogue box which says “Password required to use this Truvoice text-to-speech engine.” Everytime I click the ok button, or click the “x” in the top right of the dialogue, the box with the same message just pops up again. I have now deleted and reinstalled NVDA twice, and both times I reinstalled, it simply launched right into that dialogue box. Does anybody know a way to get me out of this vicious loop?

Thanks

There may be such a setting but I don't know it.  And I don't know what other effects changing such a setting would have since the way NVDA knows whether something is read or unread is by what graphic, if any is used to indicate it.

You should be able to use the speech dictionary and if you do, you shouldn't hear read and unread.  But you won't hear those words spoken in other places if they appear in text.  I won't explain the procedure now but I will if you want to know.

Hi all,
Just joined this group so please excuse me if this question has already been asked.
I'm new to using NVDA on a fulltime basis and after reading the manual, I'm still wondering if there's a way to eliminate having "message read" or "unread" preceeding the persons name when going through the mail boxes?
Thank you.

Re: NVDA&Amazon problem

Bob

Bob

Hi Bob:

Press NVDA+spacebar to get out of Focus mode and back into Browse mode.

So, if, as you suggest, NVDA is dropping into focus mode, how would I

Is this only on the amazon web site, and all of it or is it a general
issue?
Parts of amazon seem to be lists inside some extended combo box system
for

help with searching, so maybe its dropped into focus mode?

Using

NVDA version 2016.1
Windows7 64-bit Home edition
Internet Explorer version 11
Amazon.com/access

When I get to that url

I can review the screen using the arrow keys
I can get a list of links using NVDAKey+F7

Problem

I cannot activate links or buttons

Question

Is the following a clue to the reason for my problem?

When I press NVDAKey+NumPad5, I hear

Amazon.com document read only focused

I don't understand why it is being identified as a, document, and;
being
identified as, read only.

I'm guessing that "read only" probably has something to do with the
reason why links and buttons are inoperable, however, I have changed
several of NVDA's settings with no change in this behavior.

I have looked at various settings in I E 11 and found nothing I would
suspect as being influencial in this situation.
BTW, jaws has no problems under these conditions and NVDA had no
problems

either, until recently.

What am I overlooking?

All helpful responses appreciated!

Bob
