Hello All,

Fact-checking the site in discussion yields:

History

Founded in 1999 by Alex Jones, InfoWars is a far right American conspiracy theorist and fake news website and media platform. The radio program originates from Austin, Texas and is broadcast on over 100 radio stations. InfoWars routinely reports fake news that has led to harassment lawsuits against Alex Jones. InfoWars is most famous for promoting the fake false flag idea that the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings were staged by actors and directed by the government. This has resulted in numerous lawsuits against Jones by grieving parents who lost their children in the mass shooting. Further, during a child custody case, Jones’ attorney admitted that Alex Jones is a “performance artist.”

You don't need developer mode for Windows Subsystem for Linux - you only
need to enable it as a Windows feature.

In Powershell:
Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName
Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux

Details: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10

You could try this and then turn off developer mode in case it makes a
difference to braille display detection. I have no reason to think that it
would, or should, have any effect though.

There are also attack surface reduction settings in Windows 10 (for example, to prevent office applications from creating child processes) that can be enabled to improve the security of various office programs – including MS-Word.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/windows-defender-exploit-guard/attack-surface-reduction-exploit-guard

I installed the Microsoft  security baseline for Windows 10 1809, which enabled these Attack Surface Reduction rules in addition to a variety of other security enhancements.

I'm skeptical that allow editing has anything to do with allowing malware to run in Word.  As far as I know, and granted I am no Word expert, allow editing allows you to edit protected documents.

From what I've read, you would generally get malware from a Word document if enable macros is on, which it isn't by default.  Those doing phishing to try to get you to infect your computer try to convince you in messages they send with word attachments to allow macros.

Windows 10 has three settings concerning the selection of default
programs":
Default Programs, Default Apps and select Default Program by File Type

You want too set each and every one of these to your preferred browser to
avoid Edge showing up when you need a browser.
The file extensions you want to change are: HTTP PDF as well as any other
file type with Edge set as the default browser.
Upon making these changes, and saving your changes, Edge should be out of

I think, generally in windows 10 there are some places where Edge is used
no matter what you do, but I believe that you need to actually do as you
always could and set up default programs for certain file types, but the
old way of letting a browser do it on its own never did work in 10, at
least for me, I always had to go to the list of file types and select a
default program if it was set as a Microsoft one. another reason I prefer
windows 7.

Screen-reader designers shouldn't make editorial decisions about what a
screen-reader reads that a program displays. Unless this content
isn't seen by sighted people, Windows should read it.
The is pronounciation of source is the result of the synthesizer you are

I recognize that these are small things that the developers may not think
are important enough to fix. Here goes anyway. When I am opening a
file in word I press control O and then tab twice. Nvda says recently
opened files. You haven't opened any files recently. This was not
unexpected the first time I opened a file after installing nvda.
However, I use word every day and the message continue. At first it
was a laugh, then a smile and now it's I wish it wouldn't do that.
Another thing is the
pronunciation of s o u r c e. In the united states source rhymes with
horse not with farce as nvda pronounces it. I have tried to fix it in
the dictionary but when I replace the h in horse with an s it goes back
to the
rhyme with farce. Well, I guess that's just the way it is.

Re: books about NVDA on the access technology institute website.

Brian K. Lingard

Dear Sue & List:

Books with a purchase price or license price are almost always copyrighted. Sharing a copy with another person involves copying the book, which you are not allowed to do without paying the publisher another purchase fee.

If you are in the USA, you can often obtain a free Bookshare account from your participating regional library or if you are in full-time education.

Bookshare has many titles, including ones from philanthropically-minded publishers.

Yes, the version of NVDDA being discussed is very important as it has had changes since the release of Windows 10.

If this information is not included in the book description on the publisher or seller's web site, you need to make enquiries BEFORE purchasing the books.

Hello. I would like to buy the two books about NVDA but they are kind of pricey maybe email them to me if you can on the blind.training or it is called access technology institute website. One is about the NVDA screen reader which goes for 95 dollars that mainly talks about the entire screen reader guess from what I have read it walks you through everything the only thing I don't know when it was written. Does any one has a copy that could email it to me for free? The other one is about windows 10 using nvda it sounds like it is a good book to get it talks about the entire system but what I don't get is when you first get a new computer that has windows 10 it does not have word installed and, in the book,, it mentions and walks you through windows 10 and one of the lessons is managing and saving documents mentions word plus there are several lessons about Microsoft word. It is good but I just want a book mainly about windows 10 minus the stuff about word. The book does cost around
150 dollars it sounds like a good resource was wondering has anyone bought the books from the website and how good are they? I would also like a copy of the book as well if anyone has that could they email that to me? The books are an immersion in to NVDA

The other one is an immersion in to windows 10 with NVDA. Thank you.

In terms of your Microsoft Office issue, it sounds like you need to adjust Microsoft Office Startup. In newer versions of Microsoft Office a panel comes up with recent files and templates, with the assumption that you probably want to work on something you recently worked on, and will find it in that panel. There is a setting available to have the program just open a new document when opened directly instead of via an associated file.
Let me know if you have trouble finding the settings, though I am running a slightly older version of Word.

Using Google Chrome, I had absolutely no trouble accessing the links and buttons on that web page.

Hi All,

Recently I have been unable to activate buttons and links on the www.infowars.com webpage.  Anyone encountering this?

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Blessings

Re: A couple of small annoyances.

Dear Brian's Mail List Acct., Max & List:

Windows 10 has three settings concerning the selection of default programs":
Default Programs, Default Apps and select Default Program by File Type

You want too set each and every one of these to your preferred browser to
avoid Edge showing up when you need a browser.
The file extensions you want to change are: HTTP PDF as well as any other
file type with Edge set as the default browser.
Upon making these changes, and saving your changes, Edge should be out of
your life until Microsoft does something to make it reappear.

Noticed my "g" key was not inserting this letter. Found that somehow my Game
Bar settings had been set to use this key as a hot key to start/stop the
gaming features.

I think, generally in windows 10 there are some places where Edge is used no
matter what you do, but I believe that you need to actually do as you always
could and set up default programs for certain file types, but the old way of
letting a browser do it on its own never did work in 10, at least for me, I
always had to go to the list of file types and select a default program
if it was set as a Microsoft one. another reason I prefer windows 7.

Source seems to be the only word of that general pronunciation that it
messed up. It does alright with horse. As my last message I found that
edge is still my default browser. Short between the head sets. Chrome
has
a big button labeled make this your default browser but Microsoft must
have
written an override. How do I make chrome the default browser?

Screen-reader designers shouldn't make editorial decisions about what a
screen-reader reads that a program displays. Unless this content isn't
seen by sighted people, Windows should read it.
The is pronounciation of source is the result of the synthesizer you are
using and not NVDA. Are you saying it mispronounces that sound in
general?
or just in the word source?

I recognize that these are small things that the developers may not think
are important enough to fix. Here goes anyway. When I am opening a file
in word I press control O and then tab twice. Nvda says recently opened
files. You haven't opened any files recently. This was not unexpected
the
first time I opened a file after installing nvda. However, I use word
every day and the message continue. At first it was a laugh, then a
smile
and now it's I wish it wouldn't do that. Another thing is the
pronunciation of s o u r c e. In the united states source rhymes with
horse not with farce as nvda pronounces it. I have tried to fix it in the
dictionary but when I replace the h in horse with an s it goes back to the
rhyme with farce. Well, I guess that's just the way it is.
