Setting up NVDA for Braille
John J. Boyer
We have downloaded nVDA and the drivers for the Freedom Scientific
Braille displays. I have a Pac Mate display. NVDA seems to be working fine. However, I am deaf-blind and cannot use speech. Please tell me what choice my sighted assistant should pick on the Braille menu. Thanks, John -- John J. Boyer; President, AbilitiesSoft, Inc. Yes, but I've had this behavior in all three of the main browsers, with both

This has always been an ongoing problem, but it seems to be more prevalent now. If you have a number of tabs open in Firefox, NVDA will begin to slow down appreciably in the program. Responses to key presses are delayed and using the browser becomes problematic and inefficient. The only solution is to restart firefox. In previous versions of NVDA, this decrease in responsivness took a while to manifest--sometimes I could work for a whole day and NVDA would not slow down until the next. However, now it barely takes six to ten hours for this slowness to occur. The only way to reproduce this step is to to work in Firefox for a while, with a number of tabs open. I do not know if this same slowness occurs in Internet Explorer, Chrome or Edge. I would like to know if others have experienced this decrease in performance, and what--if any--solutions are available to counteract this problem.

Older computer running nvda and windows vista.
marvin kotler
Good afternoon list, Marv here. Sorry, but have another
question. I just received an older computer which is a laptop. It is
running vista 32 bit and the latest version of nvda. Which antivirus
program if needed is accessible with nvda. It has windows defender, but
like I said, I just received this computer and know nothing about things
regarding it. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: how to get true voice working in nvda
Gene
Any properly run list of this type does not allow
discussion of how to use or how to get illegal software. It's illegal and
public lists of this type do not allow such discussions because it exposes the
list to potential legal problems. If you are tired of hearing about it,
then don't do it. Continued violations may cause members who do so to be
moderated. I am not discussing what should be. I am discussing
standard policies of lists to protect themselves from potential legal
liability. If a list supports use of or helps people get illegal software,
the list becomes an accomplice and subject to prosecution.

I rarely have more than 2 tabs open. The only time I do this is when I for example need to get files but I rarely use more than 1 at a time maybe thats showing my old dos days. While I could do it now, I don't see any reason to do it or at least as a perminant fixture.

Well, I'd just suggest, at least, trying a couple of other variants - like said, Gene is my current primary one is Gene, and he doesn't seem to have have same issue - even if I set rate to 100%, but, you could also try adjusting inflection, etc., just in case, if you specifically prefer max variant.

Ask since, yes, if I switch to english-US, and max variant, does sound at times like a bit of a background huff sound, but, don't hear anything like that with the combination I use most of the time? Stay well Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype: BlindZA "Resistance is futile, acceptance is versatile"

persists, you might be seeing the effect of playing a sound for spelling errors while typing function. Read the What's New for more information, but press Control+NVDA+K to turn it off in the Keyboard Settings dialog. As it relates to eSpeak NG being overwritten by older eSpeak, this cannot be done. The best option is to download the SpeechPlayer in eSpeak add-on: http://files.nvaccess.org/nvda-addons/speechPlayerInEspeak-0.3.nvda-addon and use to the variant of your liking.
