After trying again, I was able to install the update successfully. After
the update downloaded, there was another sound which I hadn’t heard before. I
hit Alt-Yon spec and I installed and restarted successfully. In the future, it
would be very helpful if this dialog would read properly.

Problem installing update
Hello all,
Thanks for your feedback so far in helping me to solve this problem. I am
running Windows 10. I do not get any sound indication of the screen asking me to
allow the program to make changes to my system. I get the dialog telling me to
wait while the setup is being prepared. Then I hear beeping for a few minutes.
During that time I alt-tab numerous times to make sure I’m not missing the
screen. Pretty much immediately after the beeping stops, I get what I’d describe
as a “clang” sound and a message telling me tht the installation has failed and
advising me to check the log bview.
Hopefully this provides some further clarification.

Re: Firefox browsing bug in NVDA 2018.4
Interesting. You're right. When inside a frame, tabbing till you get outside the frame doesn't throw things to the top. When outside the frame, tabbing from anywhere on that page, and all others I've tried so far on the site, throws it to the first link at the top. Let's see how other browsers do.
Chrome: things work normally except at the "We believe" heading. Tab forward doesn't move the cursor. Shift+tab, then tab, lets things be normal.
IE works as expected.
Edge works as expected.

I assume this is a Firefox bug and not related to NVDA, because tab has no special meaning to NVDA here, at least according to input help.

Re: can't get vlc media player to start
Travis Siegel <tsiegel@...>
Did you try just using the run dialog?
press windows-R, then type vlc
If that doesn't work, then something broke in your system, and
it's likely a reinstall is necessary.

Hi.
How are you trying to open it?

What happens when you open it using the

If you’ve tried everything and there’s

There’s nothing special related to starting VlC; it should

Could you please give me the address of a page - there are different ways of representing things which end up looking the same, and I want to make sure I'm comparing the same thing as you.

I also noticed that some emoticons are pronounced only when if you
move the cursor arrows on it, as if you want to read the previous or
the next character. And if you read, using the up and down arrows,
they are not pronounced, only the word "Graphics" is pronounced.

I don't host any of them. Get it from Jeff's, link below. I see what the problem is. You're probably using IE, which automatically renames addons to zips, unless the server tells it not to. Also, copying it to synthDrivers won't work So you simply need to change the extension from .zip to .nvda-addon, or download with Firefox or chrome. Alternatively, do this. 1. Download the addon. You'll get a zip. 2. Copy it to your clipboard from explorer. 3. Open the NVDA menu, tools, Manage add-ons, install. 3. Paste. Press enter.

-----Original Message----- From: Tyler Spivey Sent: Tuesday, December 18, 2018 11:41 To: nvda@nvda.groups.io Subject: Re: [nvda] dectalk express u s b
There are two different addons. One for the dectalk express which connects through a serial port, and one for the dectalk USB which connects through a USB port. If you have a dectalk USB connected through the USB port, you want the USB addon. If you want to connect it through serial, you need the dectalk express addon, and you also need to edit it to change the serial port (or change the port in device manager to match the one the addon is currently using).

First, let's get the basics out of the way. Do you have the drivers installed? If not, go here and get them. If your PC is 64-bit, you'll want the 64-bit driver:
http://www.axsol.com/downloads.php
Once these are installed, restart your computer and try again.
Last I checked many years ago, that addon worked. I don't have a dectalk, so can't debug it here. If you really want it to work, we might be able to debug remotely with you on Skype or something, but I can't guarantee anything.

Re: can't get vlc media player to start
Rosemarie, Try the context menu key arrow down to open with. You should find vlc media player. Press enter. Regards, Charles Hi. How are you trying to open it? Are your file associations set to VlC? What happens when you open it using the search box or run dialog? If you’ve tried everything and there’s simply no VLC window opening, it may be time to re-install. There’s nothing special related to starting VlC; it should open like any other programme.

What is it doing? Exactly which addon do you have and does it talk at all? How is the synth connected, serial or USB?
