I don't understand what you mean by sleep mode.  I turned off character speak using nvda key 2 but it didn't keep it from going into its silent mode.  It's in it right now.  I hope this message will make sense as I am not getting any beeping feedback.  Or reading of lines as I up and down arrow.

There may be no accessible control when using Chrome. I am not using new versions of NVDA nor of Chrome on this machine but I found nothing. You may have to use Internet Explorer.

Also, g moves you to the next graphic so you are finding and clicking on an image in Internet Explorer. Evidently, Chrome isn't showing this image or not doing so in such a way that your screen-reader is aware of it. Others may know more about this regarding other browsers. I know of no way to get Chrome to show this image in an accessible way. I am assuming you didn't change any settings regarding images in Chrome.

no, its not possible!
navigating between footnotes, endnotes and comments are not accessible
in libreoffice unfortunately.
i really did not test newer versions of libreoffice, but i always
follow bugzilla and did not see any progress for accessibility in
recent versions.
for me, if i find one footnote and use arrow keys, i only navigate
between footnotes and lose my main document!

Please give a link to a specific page you are working with when asking for help unless the problem occurs on the home page of the web site. You gave the home page. I doubt there is a play control on that page, since it leads to stories but has no actual story on the page. I don't know if every story is supposed to have a play control or if only certain ones do. I looked at one story page with Chrome and found no play control. I don't know what I might have found using different browsers and I don't know if the page is even one I should be working with.

When you are on a page where you are having the problem, copy the address from the address bar and paste it into the message.

There are times when no captcha is presented and you are told you are verified. There are times when you must solve a captcha, at times Recaptcha will ask for another to be solved after you solve the first.

This depends on the kind of CAPTCHA. If it is a Recaptcha, often checking the box that says "I'm not a robot" will be sufficient. Sometimes this doesn't work, but it often works if you use the Chrome browser.

Welcome to the NVDA Group, and I too hope you had a good Dec. 25 and

The answer to your question about changing voice settings is
Insert numeral two and numeral three.
Pressing the insert key together with the number two will turn
character speak on or off.
Insert key together with numeral three turns speak words on or off.

The insert key, if you are unfamiliar, may be just to the right of the
backspace key.  All the best.

Capchars.
A worrying trend recently seems to be that you get asked to click on the picture containing a whatever. I have not found any work around for these.
The old wobbly ones have an audio but with a hearing loss I'd imagine its almost impossible to understand them.
I seriously feel that blindness organisations in countries that have disability laws should be funding class actions against sites using these things. They soon find another way if it starts to affect their bottom lines

The best solution I've seen recently is random questions.
Ie  Which is the  colour that the sky is unlikely to ever be.

Sorry but I don't know how to answer your first question.
Regarding the second one:
1. If you press NVDA+2, it won't speak what you type anymore.
Also, if you press NVDA+3, it will speak every word you type after
pressing space.
2. I understand that what you are saying is you're not able to press the
let's say capslock key because it's assigned to NVDA.
If it's the case, no problem at all. Just press it twice or even turn on
NVDA sleep mode and turn it off when you've done what you want.
There's also a third way to do it that is to press NVDA+F2, which will
make it ignore whatever the key you press after this. So, if you press
NVDA+F2 and try to press NVDA+N it won't work unless you do it twice.

If thats the case the machine may be full of dust and need a clear out.

Get a sightling to see if all the fans are spinning right.

I have had bad ram sticks, and faulty cpu fans cause issues, the power supply could also have issues.

Failing that, I'd remove and regrease the heatsink it doesn't hurt to do this from time to time.

I have had office screw itself over a couple times randomly my guess it was updating or syncing or something when the machine was switched off.

You can run an online repair by choosing modify from the list, hightlight ms office, tab once and you can modify or remove, hit modify and then online repair.

You can try quick but it may not work for you.

A small note though, if you do this, any pinned office icons and desktop shortcuts will be gone till you put them back.

You will also have to put in your product key again But it will fix all the screwed up office pluss it will be the latest updated version of whatever you have.

You say it lags, is it one of thus computers where the  processor is slowed down when it thinks not much is going on but in my opinion its not very good at deciding and can lock up several cores before it notices.

Is your internet connection on the blink. I've seen this sort fo problem in other mail clients when the server is very slow or the internet connection is not so good. Eventually it should give a message of some sort, but if you do not wait long enough and try to come out you will get the messages waiting warning.
Might be a good idea to try a web browser when its stuck and see if that can get on.

Yes but this issue of not being able to create it here has been around in some circumstances for years and its a very neat solution when you are in a folder that looks like a folder but actually is not really a folder.

With Win10, here is how you put apps on the desktop, or at least a short cut for them LOL:
First, press Windows key+R to open the run dialog!
Then, type the following:
shell:appsfolder
And press enter.
Now, you will be in a list of all apps.
Just find mail in the list, and press shift+F10 or applications key.
Arrow down to create short cut.
Press enter, and you will hear:
Cannot create short cut here, would like to add this to the desktop?
Just press enter on yes, and the app will be put on the desktop.
It is a lot different putting a short cut to an app on the desktop than a traditional short cut for a computer program like MS Word, for example!

Well, I found on my windows 7 machine that this effect is very synth depended. Any Microsoft one has the issue, but  cntrl alt del to  lock the computer seems to speak and if you then cancel it often comes back to life, from which I deduce this might be a windows issue of some kind.

10 that at some random time after starting the second program that NVDA
will go silent.  No amount of tabbing or arrowing will cure its case of
laryngitis.   So far the only way I can restore its voice is to press
control alt N to restart it.  Is there a quicker way to start it talking
again?

You’ll need Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Version 1709) or later in order to insert emojis.

There is a tutorial I wrote (featured on most recent Top Tech Tidbids) that goes over emoji panel and how it works, as well as what to expect in coming months with this feature:

Note that the tutorial tries to be screen reader agnostic but most of it applies to NVDA users.
