I used to use Virtual Recorder but, for a reason I couldn't figure out, it stopped saving the recorded mp3s, so I switched to using Audacity and it works perfectly. The steps you need to do in audacity to get it to record the output of the soundcard rather than an inbuilt or external mic, are as Chris details above.
I use this method any time I want to capture audio that NVDA is saying. Giles

Good for you for doing the grunt work of communicating with Mark about accessibility issues. He tends to be quite responsive when he can be. What follows is something I recently sent a client who was facing the same sort of issues with a corporate website. It should also be useful here. I wanted to make sure to send you what follows. It is not that you will necessarily use any of it directly, but these are powerful pieces of information to pass along when you're working with any organization where the goal is increasing the accessibility of their webpages.
The first is the WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool:
On this webpage you supply the web address of the webpage you wish to have analyzed from an accessibility perspective. The tool identifies all (or at least most) of the page coding errors that restrict accessibility and gives direct instructions on how to fix them. It can be invaluable information for web developers who have never taken accessibility into account and in showing them easy ways to do so going forward.
There is also a form and checklist at the webaim.org site that can help web programmers:
The formal conventions document (or one of the major ones, there are a couple of others, and it makes reference to them) is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines which are available here:
These are all things you might want to pass along not only to tech geeks, but to those who are working with them to create new web content. Even the non-technically minded can find it enlightening to run WAVE against a webpage that's really accessible to a screen reader user then do the same for one that's not.

GoldWave is a fully functional demo allowing you to use all features. The only draw back if you don’t register it is that every time you enter it you get the GoldWave introduction, no big deal!

Goldwave isn't free and there is no reason to use it for simple recording and editing. I'll look at the program I'm going to send tomorrow and make sure what the options are. The options may be all you need. Or, you may need to learn to change sound card settings to record using a line-in input. But just what do you want to record? Do you want to record from a physical radio or record a radio stream that is streaming online? What sorts of other things do you want to record?

what the above poster said is true. a simple google search will give you access to illegal eloquence. anyone who wants it can find it in a matter of seconds. As for me, I just bought modern sapi5 codeFactory eloquence so i can use it with any program i want, even windows narrator, games. and it works perfectly.

Hello. Does anyone know of any audio recording software that works with NVDA with no mic attached to the computer? I want to record a lot of internal stuff from my computer with no mic attached. I am using audacity fine here with windows 10. You need to go to preferences, then arrow up/down to devices. tab and make sure your host is set to windows wasapi. tab once more and set your playback device to your speakers. tab for a third time and make sure the recording device is set using the loopback option, for example speakers loopback. then press OK. that should enable to you press R when in audacity and it will start recording. when you're finished, press space to stop then space again to start playback. works like a charm with the latest version of audacity. cheers, Mo.

I think Virtual Recorder is one of the easiest recorders to use. I don't agree with Brian about having to edit the beginning and end of recordings. You can set up keyboard shortcuts with VR and have it running in the background. The Record and Stop shortcut keys sound a bleep when pressed so you know they are engaged and by temporarily switching NVDA into silent mode, with a bit of practice, you can get clean recordings. As for stereo mix not showing in your Sound Card settings, I remember a while ago having my stereo mix disappear from the list of devices on the recording tab and after doing some googling, I found out that it can be disabled. Try checking in Device manager, Audio inputs and outputs and see if it is there and enabled. Cheers Chris

Hi When you press the Windows key you will land in the Cortana search box. Press tab until you find a button entitled “Toggle start navigation menu items”. Press this then use down arrow not tab to navigate start menu.

Hey guys, Molly here again. For some reason 99 percent of the time Nvda doesn’t announce that I’m on the start menu when I press the windows logo key. I press it and Nvda says nothing at all. It’s happening on both machines. It’s frustrating because I’m needing to access different folders and I want to search for them using the start menu. Do you have any ideas on what could be causing this? Running windows 10 home, build 17763 on both machines. Thanks.

Using the current skype on win ten desktop and nvda. Some friends form a new skype group each day.
I cannot figure out how to delete the old groups. Don't have a mouse. I press the applications key and get a choice of "delete conversation," but it does not delete the group. I have over 60 dead groups. I signed out and back in; still there. Help, help, de zombies gots me, mon.

If you have books and want them in an artificial voice but do not want to do it at the speed you read at. there is a program called Dspeech which can do this. It is basically a text editor and a routine that records the spoken file very very fast. I know there are other programs like this around and one issue is that there will be strange words and breaks in any file that make it sound slightly odd but you can for example download the sapi version of Espeak if you like that or use any other sapi voice.

Well although I get the start menu OK on windows 7 I am increasingly getting it on folder opening, which it never did prior to the latest version of nvda but I do have a number of newer add ons since add on updater was installed and without any kind of evidence yet, I might suggest its one or more of the new add ons.
