There is no update for this under the standard way of updating using preferences/weather plus/check for update. Neither is it listed under the much vaunted and revised add on updater.

MAX <max@...>
Sorry for the confusion. I now have the installed version working so that issue is closed. I recovered the portable install from the recycle bin and I am going to try to get it working now that I better understand the unzip program. I really don’t need it but it’s a challenge.

Hi Max Your posts are somewhat confusing. First you say you unzipped the program but can’t use it again because you can’t find it, then you say it is installed and working. There are 2 versions of Virtual Recorder, a portable version which you unzip and use without installation, and an installer version which is installed as a Windows program. Which version do you now have working on your computer?
Cheers Chris From: nvda@nvda.groups.io [mailto:nvda@nvda.groups.io] On Behalf Of MAX
Hmmm. As I reflect on it that seems to be what I did. There’s no point in worrying about that now. The program is installed and working. As some old guy once said, all’s well that ends well.

I don't know how you unzip files. if you do it properly, you should have a completely new folder, separate from the zip file, with all the files in it. It doesn't sound to me as though you did that. It sounds to me as though you opened the archive and ran the exe file from inside of the archive.
Gene ----- Original Message ----- From: MAX Sent: Saturday, January 05, 2019 7:03 PM Subject: Re: [nvda] how to record audio from the computer with no mic plugged in sure could use some help.
After I downloaded and ran the zip file I had the unzipping program on my screen. I pressed the extract button. That showed the virtual recorder.exe file. When I ran it I got the recorder dialog on the screen but I could only use it once because after I closed everything I couldn’t find the exe file again.

Since the link to the installed version came from the same site, this was, presumably, an installed version modified by Carlos. I didn't recall there being one so whatever I may have said was regarding the version direct from the developer which evidently has accessibility problems.
As far as portable programs are concerned, I don't know why you had problems with the portable program but I prefer to use portable versions of programs when available. Did you unzip the program before using it? For those trying this or other portable programs who haven't used them before, if they come as a zip file, you must unzip the program before using it.
I generally prefer to use portable programs if available. For one thing, they are portable. I can simply copy the folder onto a thumb drive and place a copy onto another computer if I want to use it there. No changes are made to the system. I always use portable versions of firefox because if the copy I'm using becomes corrupted, I can keep a backup copy of the program and simply replace the corrupted program with a copy of the backup program. I don't have to worry about maintenance or creating a new profile or anything else. And, as I said, I can copy it to another computer when I wish.
In this case, there may be one or more available features in the installed version so someone might wat to use the installed version. I don't know what those features might be and they aren't important to me because the portable version does everything I want. I suspect that if there are more available features they would be something minor such as being able to specify where files are saved.

Now that’s more like it. It was the usual install experience with location, start menu, and desk top icon. You scared me off from the installed version with all that talk about bugs. I did a little recording and I could find the files and play them back. Ten minutes after two and all is well.

I sent two links yesterday, one for each version. Here is the message I sent last night:
Gene
There is an installable version, also, I assume, modified by Carlos. I don't know if the installable version does anything the portable version doesn't do. Perhaps it allows you to specify where you want files saved.
Also, because of the problems a user reported with the installed version, presumably from the developer's site, it may be that some people have problems with the installed version that won't with the portable. version
Here is the link for the installable version from the same site:
Gene Sent: Saturday, January 05, 2019 11:03 AM Subject: Re: [nvda] how to record audio from the computer with no mic plugged in sure could use some help.
How do I, or anyone for that matter, tell the difference between the install and the noninstall versions. I get it. The noninstall version just copies the files but doesn't register the program with windows. That must have been the one I downloaded. I have dumped the message with the URL so will someone please send me a good URL?

OK. I thought it was a strange coincidence that the very same ad was being added to someone’s email message as had popped up on my computer. The adds only appear when I am running chrome which is why I have stopped using it. I don’t get them under any other conditions. I have checked several times and the popups option is turned off but they keep popping. I am actually happier with fire fox than I was with chrome so it’s no longer an issue. I am a careful browser. I never go to a site unless two conditions are met. 1) Someone I know recommends it. And 2) The recommending message actually came from that person. I regularly get site recommendations from friends and relatives who have passed away. Needless to say they get permanently deleted.

I saw the ad. The ads are placed at the end of messages from Sue by her e-mail provider. But you said you see ads in Chrome, the browser.
Gene ----- Original Message ----- From: MAX Sent: Sunday, January 06, 2019 10:38 AM Subject: Re: [nvda] how to record audio from the computer with no mic plugged in sure could use some help.
So are you saying that these ads at the end of Sue’s messages are not appearing to you? It makes a big difference to me whether they are being attached by Sue’s email provider or they are being attached by my computer as they arrive in my inbox. Please be clear. I’d like to hear from Sue on this. Do you see ads at the end of your messages when they return to you through the list.

It sounds suspiciously to me as though you have AdWare on your machine which is causing popups to appear when they shouldn't be. do popups keep coming up as you browse? do they come up when you are not browsing as well, when the browser is closed?
It appears the advertising in the message you are discussing comes from Juno.com. I didn't know they were still around but I just looked up the site and it is. These appear to be commercials Juno is placing in the e-mail from third party advertisers.
I doubt that you being signed into Chrome would cause such popups. I never signed into Chrome so I doubt it but I don't know it.

Did anyone else see that tag on Sue's message? It began quote, One Cup of This (Before Bed), end quote. That's the same as one of the popups I was getting with google chrome.

No problems here, either.
I always suggest a complete uninstall/reinstall, particularly if the behavior appeared immediately after a feature update. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep. ~ Saul Bellow, To Jerusalem and Back
