putting mail app on my desktop

Josh Kennedy <joshknnd1982@...>

Hi,

Currently the windows 10 mail app on my RCA Cambio windows 10 tablet laptop is on the    running applicationsTtoolBar.  How do I put it on the desktop using the keyboard? My tablet also has a touch screen and it can be removed from the physical keyboard dock. Could I move it onto the desktop with the touch screen somehow?

Re: how to advance slides with nvda

If all you need to do is view, you may find it better saving the thing in rtf from the save menu then opening it.

That was how I did all powerpoints back in university.

Hello Morné,

thanks for reporting this issue. To be honest, I think this is a browser issue. But I am not sure because I do not have another screen reader to test it. But what I can certainly say, is that it works correctly in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. Which browser are you using? The problem seems to occur only in Firefox.

I have created an issue on Github here:

Betreff: [nvda] Having difficulty with NVDA on an airline website

Good day,

Greetings from South Africa.

I’m having difficulties booking a flight on a local airline website.  I am not sure if it is an NVDA issue or not.  My issue is with the selecting of the departure and return dates.  The issue is as follows:

I want to travel from Cape Town to Durban.  My departure date is the 14th of June 2019.  On the 17th June I want to go back from Durban to Cape Town – thus a round trip.  I don’t have an issue with selecting the departure date (which is the 14th of June.)  However, when I select the return date (which is the 17th of June), NVDA says “selection removed.”  What happens then is that the departure moves to the 10th of June, instead of the 14th June, thus a week back from the return date.  In short:  when I select the return date, the departure date automatically moves a week back from the return date.

The edit boxfor the dates are read only so I have to use the arrows to select the departure and return dates.  However, when I select the return date, and the departure moves a week back automatically, the arrows don’t function at all in the departure date edit box.  So I cannot change the departure date.

I realy hope this is clear enough.  I include the website of the airline for reference and if you would like to give it a try.

https://www.flysafair.co.za/

If this is not an NVDA issue, I do apologise.

You must have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to your reply.

Regards

Morné

I don't know what might determine it in a Word document.  In HTML, there is a language tag that many sites use to specify the language of the site or page.

I explained in an earlier message how to stop the synthesizer automatically changing language.  You will notice a dialect checkbox in the same voices dialog I discussed before.  If you don't want the dialect to change, for example, Brittish English on a site that specifies the dialect, uncheck this box as well, if it is checked.

I you really get stuck, you can type in the slide number when you are in slide view and hit enter to go directly to that slide.  Sometimes I have used this when I slides refuse to advance.

If you start the blank presentation, can you move between the slides?

In some presentation the creator implements different animations which are displayed when pressing space bar or page down / page up. But NVDA does not report this. That’s why in some cases you must press space bar or so multiple times until the slide changes.

Not everything is written by English speakers nor has those who speak English as the target demographic (though, based on a later clarification by Kenny, it does appear that an effort has been made for English speakers with this add-on).

It would be nice were a lot of the non-reviewed add-ons that have been developed by many be submitted for review, but I can also understand why many do not wish to expend the time and effort to get the "official blessing" for tools they developed, most likely for personal use, that they've made available to others who want to use them.  This really is a choice for anyone who puts together an add-on to make.  Using an "unofficial" add-on always is AYOR (At Your Own Risk).

What I'd love to see is for NVDA to have a centralized area for "unofficial and non-reviewed" add-ons to be centrally housed.  People are able to understand that there is a difference between add-ons that have undergone the official review process and are "officially blessed" and those that are not.  Many will still wish to use "those that are not," and right now those are very hard to find and exist "all over the place."

Thank you. This should have been included at the outset, particularly since
the thing has a name like this, as one word: NVDAExtensionGlobalPlugin

Now, at least, the readership can literally be on the same (web)page.

Hi,
Why be so fearful of the future?
This module exiists for more than six years and has survived all the versions of NVDA.
Why the next version of NVDA kills it ?
To reassure you, it is still possible to test it on a version master portable NVDA.
But I may have misunderstood your response. Please, in this case, excuse me.
Sorry for my bad english.

I still have no idea what add-on is being discussed. I've looked at the
official and under development add-ons page, as well as doing a web search,
and can find nothing under the name GlobalPlugin. I can find descriptions of
the concept of a global plugin versus application specific modules, but
nothing under that name. I find nothing under just "global" either, as far
as a specific add-on.

Something's missing in what's been mentioned so far.

Re: how to advance slides with nvda

Adriani Botez

Hello,

I am testing just now in Powerpoint, I cannot reproduce your problem unfortunately. In my case space bar or page down / page up works as expected. Could you try to create a new powerpoint presentation with let’s say 5 blank slides?

If you start the blank presentation, can you move between the slides?

In some presentation the creator implements different animations which are displayed when pressing space bar or page down / page up. But NVDA does not report this. That’s why in some cases you must press space bar or so multiple times until the slide changes.

Best

Adriani

Hi friends.

I opened a presentation in PowerPoint 2016 and pressed f5 to start the presentation.

I can read the first slide’s text with nvda and, if I press ctrl+shift+s I can read the nodes.

But how can I go to the next slide?

I tried to press pagedown, enter, spacebar and even press nvda key + f2 and pagedown. But it didn’t change slides.

Hi,
I usually press ctrl+l to go to the address bar, then tab from there
until I get to the notification. I know it's not optimum but not even
the documentation from Mozilla is giving a shortcut.
Best,
Felix

Hi,
I voted on unreliable focus tracking (issue 8389) and sluggishness in
browsers (issue 2039). Hoping some more people here find these issues
important enough to bring them up. I would appreciate it very much.
And before anyone asks, yes, I am being manipulative here. *grin*
