When I use Ctrl/Alt/Right or Left Arrow, NVDA says “Not in Table”. Other things to try?

Hi

I am not sure the Control+alt+Arrows work in this situation.  My understanding is that this is not a table but a formatting option  to make the document look like columns such as in a newspaper.  I seem to recall Jaws having some key commands for this but I can’t remember if it’s the same keystrokes as those used to read tables.

Cheers

I’ve set up a Word document with 3 columns. When I am using NVDA to read back through the document, is there a command to jump from column to column e.g. read line 1 in the first column and then jump to line 1 in the second column? Thanks.

NVDA and ads blocker

Pascal Lambert <coccinelle86@...>

Hi All,

Today some pages are so riddled with long links that are ads, some of which are several lines long, making reading with a screen reader very annoying and difficult.  Example of pages are Breitbart.com, wnd.com… they are becoming very common which, in my view, is a violation of the ADA that we may need to look into and report.

Is there any way to skip the ads?  Is there a freeware ads blocker that works well with NVDA?

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Blessings

Pascal

Hello,

You sure don't need the programme to read DRM-free epubs, but you need it to read ebooks protected with Adobe DRM.

In adition, there are many instances where you can't download ebooks if you don't have ADE, because what you get when you buy or borrow ADE books is an acsm file, which is a license. In order to obtain the actual book, you need to open it with ADE.

This is what I know. Are there any alternatives? I wish there were!

Hi,

Ok well I finally got my RCA cambio tablet reset. I had to turn it off. Turn it back on and then keep tapping f9 until the windows10 troubleshooter came up and windows narrator turned on. And then I reset windows10 and told it to wipe out and remove everything and it did. Everything is back installed the way I like except for a game or two that I can get later on.  So my question is this. Norton and its junk I do not care about has been wiped out. So is there a way I can get adobe digital edition without Norton? I don’t want the Norton stuff to be installed all over again. I just want adobe digital edition software so I can read epub books. Or will google chrome let me read epub books with the bookmarking features and stuff?

I thought that there was an option with all adobe stuff to decline their extras. If that did not work it might pay dividends to talk to Adobe about it, I'd imagine the last thing they would want is sombody telling people not to download their software due to another piece of software.

The NVDA devs used to talk to Adobe a lot and got them to fix the installers on their flash and other software that were not accessible so maybe they still have a contact there. Anyone?

I think, given that this thing is a PCMCIA card, the main problem is going to
be finding a machine it will fit into, and can also run a recent enough version

Well whatever you do steer clear of avast, avg and norton, all have issues of accessibility or they are often hard to remove and have been known to stop certain accessible bits of windows from working for ever after being removed. I speak from experience of two or them and reading here about the other. Where that leaves you is anybodies guess but one has to realise I think with malware in general, there is no perfect answer. there needs to be a certain number of people infected before anyone can block it.
Also of course the best anti virus software is between your or the users ears, ie be sensible.

Re: reading from cursor to end of document issues

But that doesn't do the same thing.  it reads to the end but it doesn't move the application cursor as it moves, something important for editing.  I find that feature useful in cases where there is no application or virtual cursor, for example sometimes, I am partway in a dialog having skipped some of it while using the screen review commands but I want to read the rest of it from where I am.  But when working with programs that have a cursor or virtual cursor, I think it is better to use the read to end command.

If the desktop layout is being used, it should be asked, are you using NVDA down arrow or NVDA 2 on the numpad.
