I'm using windows 10, the latest version of NVDA and the latest version of
firefox. I don't know what's going on. I'm to the point where I don't want
to fill out surveys anymore.

Rosemarie,

Normally, I would support you completely on your findings. Especially when a
survey is inaccessible. Could you explain what operating system, generation
of NVDA, and version of Firefox you are using?

After that I can compare my settings with yours and see why I have no
problem accessing the survey when you are having so much trouble.

For the record, here is a screen capture of what NVDA sees in the survey
after I filled it in with trial data:

I have no problem seeing each field. In fact I answered each question with

The interface was very clear and combo boxes and check lists were exactly

I wonder why you were having difficulty?

Hi Rosemary,

I have no problem navigating this page and at the very end, there is a
submit button. I don't want to fill out the survey because I haven't taken
any such course. Actually, I thought of filling it in with all negative
answers for laughs and giggles and then submitting, but that would screw up
someone's reputation there. This is obviously a specific survey requested
for students and the URL is probably proprietary.

able to answer the questions in the survey but when it came to trying to
submit it, I couldn't. I tried it with both NVDA and system access to go but
neither screen reader saw the submit button. I even tried it with object

submitting surveys to Hadley using NVDA? I had to send the email about the
survey to my sister to help me fill it out.

P.S. I tried with webbie browser and firefox but the same thing happened.

Hi, everyone,

I just finished taking a course in independent living housekeeping. I was
able to answer the questions in the survey but when it came to trying to
submit it, I couldn't. I tried it with both NVDA and system access to go but
neither screen reader saw the submit button. I even tried it with object
navigation but that didn't work either. Have any of you had trouble with
submitting surveys to Hadley using NVDA? I had to send the email about the
survey to my sister to help me fill it out.

Rosemarie

P.S. I tried with webbie browser and firefox but the same thing happened.

Oh, not good! What windows is she using? Is it something to do with Windows ten?  Is it something neither of your screen readers see?

Re: espeak n g no good it sneezes on some words

Sharni-Lee Ward

Well, in the case of verbosity as I traverse the system, I do a lot of
rapid scrolling and pressing of ctrl. I know what my system says where
and am familiar enough with my computer to know where things are without
being told. :)

Reading stories and articles is most of what I do with NVDA. Changing
speeds from super fast to what I consider normal and back would be quite
as jarring as listening to a piece of music at double-speed and then
straight away listening to the same song at normal speed. Whenever I do
that the normal rate sounds too slow...

Some of us can certainly listen to fast rates of speed. I listen to
my reading machine at 500 words per minute and I will also listen to
my nls player at the highest speed. If I listen to slow that would
just put me to sleep.

I do slow down first thing in the morning, uncheck the rate boost
and set speed to 100 % .

To me nvda set to 30 % sounds like if you set yours to 0 % or slower.

I am just used to it fast.

I just tested it and I can't make out what's being said at all. If I
didn't know the contents of the dialogue, I'd be lost.

I all ways used the default nvda max english voice, I am
disappointed in the changes made to espeak in nvda I think starting
with nvda 2015 or may be as far back as 2014. Were the changes made
to espeak by nvda devel or the creator of espeak. I would like a
choice in nvda setup to be able to pick witch espeak to install. I
feal the need for speed quite freequently and to have that fluttering
sound in there when the check box for rate boost is checked so I can
get up to a 600 to 800 words per min is disruptive. I am still trying
to get used to it.

Have you tried disabling Report object descriptions in NVDA's object
presentation dialog?

I don't mind it talking while i type but it's giving me too much info about
what file am in and press this and that and ugg by the time it's done I
forget which info I want to put in the cell!

I wish I could add more but my brain goes into meltdown mode when it starts
talking so much haha

Danni,

If by "shut off the chatter" you mean to stop NVDA from speaking
while you type, etc., you can use NVDA Key+S to toggle speech mode. I also
use the No Beeps Speech Mode NVDA add-on so that I either have speech or
silence, as there is a third feedback using beeps which I have no use for.
The NVDA Key+S is a true on/off toggle for speech if you use that add-on,
otherwise it is a cycling switch between, off, beep mode, and speech mode.

Announcing the launch of a six-week course on app module creation via Skype and TeamTalk

Hi everyone,

Have you encountered an app that you believe an app module could make it more usable? Have you wanted to find out how you can apply your skills in Python in a real-life project? Want to get into contributing code to NVDA screen reader project but need some preparation time? Or are you a user who’d like to sit back as an NVDA contributor walks you through behind the scenes tour of some apps?

If that’s you, there’s an event for it: starting from June 25, 2016, come and join a six-week course on learning how to write your first NVDA app module. This course, taught by an NVDA contributor, will teach you the basics of writing app modules, including scripts, events, overlay classes and more. This course will be taught via Skype and TeamTalk:

·         For Skype users: join NVDA support group.

·         TeamTalk: Come to NVDACon Korea TeamTalk Server (nvda-kr.org)

Course outline:

·         Introduction to app modules

·         What app modules are not

·         Communicating with app developers regarding app accessibility issues

·         Your first script

·         Speech, braille and tones

·         Handling events

·         Overlay classes

·         COM, Windows API and advanced topics

·         Live demos of app modules and looking at actual app module source code (from both NVDA Core and add-ons)

You’ll need:

·         Python 2.7.

·         Basic to intermediate Python skills (programmers only).

·         An app you’ll be writing an app module for.

·         Text editor for writing Python code.

Additional information:

·         Cost: absolutely free.

·         Recorded sessions: yes.

·         There will be an introductory meeting on June 18th at 12 PM Pacific (3 PM Eastern) via both Skype and TeamTalk (at the same time).

·         Basic knowledge of Python is recommended, with an experience with writing global plugins being a bonus.

·         Taught by an actual NVDA contributor with full access to NVDA screen reader source code.

For more information, please contact me directly via email (joseph.lee22590@...) or via Twitter (@joslee). Hope to meet many of you through this course.
