Rosemarie,

I would ask you to be very precise with him to define which buttons you have
found not to be well coded. I have flagged the coding of the "no" button in
his drop-down list. That is the only one which is not coded as "no" in the
option list but does appear as "No" in the displayed result when you choose
the third option. This implies that the code he is using to populate the
drop down list is at fault. The actual selection displays correctly for that
option.

There are no other faults with the coding of the questionnaire.

In fact, I have tried other questionnaires generated on this site on
previous occasions and they gave me great problems where you could not tell
if the option displayed in the question referred to the question that
preceded it or which followed it. He has nothing like that here.!The whole
questionnaire is solid. Another chronic problem with other questionnaires is
the editor program that provided to allow you to enter free form data. In
other questionnaires I have not been able to keep the cursor in track with
the reading cursor. On other occasions, spaces appear when there should be a
character that I have typed . The programmer has none of this here. His
editor is accurately in track with the review cursor, however he has managed
to do it!

I wish you would give Gene a full answer to his questions. It is rare that
we encounter a good accessible production like this questionnaire. You may
find that you have been burdened with the rare option that confounds the
programmer's efforts. We would like to help you get to the bottom of it. In
this way we can help you and the programmer to resolve the difficulty.

All the best,

Cearbhall

Announcing Windows 10 App Essentials NVDA add-on version 16.06.1 #redstone #nvdasr

Hi all, mostly NVDA folks:

I’m delighted to announce the immediate release of Windows 10 App Essentials add-on 16.06.1. The release notes can be found here:

http://github.com/josephsl/wintenapps/releases/latest

Among other things, this version allows NVDA to announce notifications from Edge web browser (such as download status (download prompt for Redstone)), as well as providing workarounds for Redstone version of Calculator app.

Good luck.

P.S. I believe you should not be left in the dark as to what screen reader developers are doing in terms of Windows 10 (particularly Redstone) support, hence this post. For members of the Win10 group: besides NVDA and Narrator, users of other screen readers that declare support for Windows 10 are always welcome.

Cheers,

Joseph

you have to force focus/forms mode several times in the page and its very
easy to miss a field when this is being done. I did not hear it say that a

I don't have any add-ons. The man at the Hadley help desk said he's had the

unlikely. I already asked the person with the problem to do a very specific
thing to find out if scripts are being blocked. My question has not been

Hi, Gene,

I just received an email from the tech at the Hadley help desk. He said he's
had the same problem with different surveys and said it could be the way the
buttons are coded. I had to have my sister fill it out for me.

an antivirus program blocking something. I consider it possible but
unlikely.

Perhaps later today, we'll get an answer as to the komando site I asked

I haven't used it enough to notice any problems and I don't intend to do a lot of spread sheets but it was really tgetting annoying every time I moved a cell it would read what am now assuming was the formula it made it rather hard to keep the brain focussed on what I was doing! haha

My problem with Libra is that half the time it refuses to speak at all either in the menu it puts up about what you want to do or when you get a blank doc up. It needs me to move away and back to get the speech back again.

I'm sure this never used to be the case.
Still, I have other machines with older office on it and that still works, well works again now the new version has been fixed.
PS I'd love to know whose idea Microsoft uses for what is correct grammar, I always turned this off as it makes my texts sound like some kind of idiot wrote it.
I guess it cannot handle colloquialisms.

Danni,

If by "shut off the chatter" you mean to stop NVDA from speaking while you type, etc., you can use NVDA Key+S to toggle speech mode. I also use the No Beeps Speech Mode NVDA add-on so that I either have speech or silence, as there is a third feedback using beeps which I have no use for. The NVDA Key+S is a true on/off toggle for speech if you use that add-on, otherwise it is a cycling switch between, off, beep mode, and speech mode.

I just wanted to be able to make a spread sheet and my computer guy put pibra on the computer but I'd never made a spread sheet before and having NVDA constantly chatter was making it nearly impossibole but once I clicked on formula that chatter went away!

Re: Location vs reader

Semirhage,

This add-on is a great one and one I've been using lately so that I can know where NVDA happens to be.  But, be aware that if you're having NVDA read text, say a newspaper article, once the reading goes beyond what's on screen the "green with black squiggle"-edged box does not scroll the screen as it moves from paragraph to paragraph.  You can definitely pause and have your spouse either mouse or arrow around to find where it is, but don't expect that everything is automatically scrolled to keep that box visible on the screen if you're dealing with text that is much longer than what displays on the screen when you begin the reading process.

Re: Facebook with NVDA

mk360

Hi,

About forms mode (NVDA space) it sounds when you press this combination, but you can disable it in NVDA's configuration. However which distribution mode are you using for the keyboard? note that if you are using laptops keyboard the NVDA modifier key will be capslock, so the combination is capslock spacebar, but if you are using desktop keyboard the NVDA modifier key will be the insert key. You can see the distribution in the NVDA menu > preferences > keyboard settings or similar (my NVDA is in spanish).
About NVDA shift spacebar, it doesn't use any song, but when you enable or disable that NVDA announces it. Note that as I understand that mode was developed to cases lyke Facebook or similar. You can test if the mode is active by pressing something lyke h key and see if it moves to the next header... if not the mode is working.

Regards,
mk.

Rosemarie,

Normally, I would support you completely on your findings. Especially when a
survey is inaccessible. Could you explain what operating system, generation
of NVDA, and version of Firefox you are using?

After that I can compare my settings with yours and see why I have no
problem accessing the survey when you are having so much trouble.

I have no problem seeing each field. In fact I answered each question with
the adjusted combo box and entered a sample answer and explanations that I
was only testing. Finally I entered the submit button and my submission was

The interface was very clear and combo boxes and check lists were exactly

I wonder why you were having difficulty?

Hi Sem,

Try the Focus Highlight addon on the NV Access addons page: http://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/focusHighlight.en.html

It draws a coloured rectangle around where the focus is and is one of the most effective ways of having a sighted user watching over your shoulder and both of you knowing where you are.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Okay so if I am trying to show my husband something I'm looking at online sometimes NVDA will read one thing but the screen is showing something else, usually way above. But it does the same thing to me a little if I click on a you tube link I want or where NVDA tells me it is, it will end up on another link. So it acts up worst for us on Amazon when it comes to NVDA  reading one thing and my husband seeing another then for me on you tube it's hit and miss. LOL. Any thoughts?
