Re: trying to sync albums to iPod Shuffle from iTunes using NVDA
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
If its any consolation to you. I just installee Itunes as I bought an I phone and am not getting far with trying to find my way around it. All I will say is that navigating in it is just like on the I Phone not windows standard, but occasionally when I use it with nvda it will just crash the computer.

I used to hate it before, but had hoped that they might have made it more intuitive. So if any Itunes gurus who use nvda are out there, we are all ears. Hello Chris,
Thank you very much for that re assurance, it is much
appreciated.
Are you having any problems with the new version? my needs are not very
complex.
I have loads of disc space available, so it may have been just a
generic
message, and I did block it from the start.
I know this is a bit off topic, but others may benifit from your
explanation.

Hi This will be the update to Windows 1809 which I installed last week and prior to that I had similar messages. This is what is known as a feature update and is different to normal updates as it creates a Windows.Old folder containing the previous Windows version, which gives you the option to revert back to the previous version if you want. The Windows.Old folder on my system is just over 8Gb in size and I suspect the message about making space available you are getting, relates to having enough disk space to accommodate this folder. Windows.Old will automatically deleted after a few weeks, giving time for you to get used to the new Windows version.
Your system may have attempted to update to 1809 but doesn’t have sufficient disk space available. Have a look in Settings (Windows+i), Update and Security, Windows Update then tab to “View Update History”. You should be able to check what is happening in there.
Cheers Chris

Hello,
My a pologies for the off topic message, but has anyone had a similar experience as I am having at the moment. Several weeks ago I got a message purporting to come from Microsoft asking me to free up space for a new update which was larger than normal, I chose to be reminded later, since then the message changed to a choice of “pick a time”or “remind me later”, now it is saying either “restart now” or “wait an hour”. So far I have not allowed this update, has anyone else had this experience, it seems a different procedure to earlier updates, by the way I have version 1803 at the moment. Thank you for any comments and advice.

I'm not sure, but I think the version before that one worked correctly. Somebody needs to make a ticket on the Firefox bug tracker or it can be put on the nvda one if you want, and maybe Jamie can advise as he was on there the other day trying to understand a different issue in Firefox, I noticed.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
This though is a Firefox issue as it was working before. I only went there to check prompted by this thread, and as has been said, I knew it was working earlier. Incidentally which version of Windows is everyone using, windows 7 or does it not matter? Its a minor issue but annoying nonetheless if you want to add or look at what other add ons are installed. I have been running a very old Soulseek version 157 beta 13 for more than a decade and it still works quite well. I didn't think anything past that version worked with screen readers--something about a programming language that is totally incompatible. Where can I get the 2017 version? What would be the advantages of this upgrade?

thank you again George, my huge problem is that I cannot get the combo box to change when I wish any filter to deposit messages in any folder under my inbox for the account I am working in. I'll try that example, as you know I've not been able to install anything yet which my browser found to my download folder into Thunder Bird yet, but now you've shown me the way. I'll go to the NVDA add-on page and get the t-bird add-on,
thanks! George, I recall your name from the "readit," days, remember that fine reader / file handler? :) I go a ways back, so as you can tell I've been doing computers for awhile. :) Seems to me you had a bit to do with that software? On 3/6/2019 8:09 PM, George McCoy

Re: Off Topic Thunderbird reading messages view
George McCoy <slr1bpz@...>
Hello again, Curtis. I haven't followed your Thunder bird trials and tribulations
closely, so the following is based on some assumptions. 2. You are using the instructions in the tutorial on accessibility central. 3. You have downloaded the .xpi file. If my assumptions are incorrect, you can probably skip the rest of this email. You will recall that I mentioned that a few things in the tutorial are out of date. The section on installing the quick folder navigation add-on is one of those. Try the following instead. Click tools>add-ons. Select install add-on from file from the menu. Navigate to the the quick folders navigation add-on. Press enter or click the open button to install the add-on. Also, you should install the mozilla enhancements add-on for NvDA, if you haven't already done so. It makes both Thunder bird and firefox easier to use. The best thing about this add-on as far as Thunder bird is concerned is that it makes arranging message headers much easier.

Re: Firefox and Extensions' section
Marcio,
At this point I'm allowing for "farewell tours" for topics already well underway. I appreciate your thoughtful consideration. That having been said, this topic is about NVDA being used with Firefox, so it would certainly qualify for main group. Were a conversation about Firefox and all its various settings be wanted, but not because there's any NVDA related content of significance about that, the chat group is the place to start it. The question I'd like people to ask themselves before choosing main versus chat is: Does what I'm about to discuss involve using NVDA to accomplish a task with some program or NVDA settings to control NVDA itself? If the answer is yes, then go for the main group, and if it's no then go for chat. You really can't discuss NVDA or any other screen reader without it being directly linked to accomplishing a task with other software. Screen readers are tools that are "dead assets" unless you're using them with something else. But you can go on for days about other software, with barely a mention of NVDA, and that's what belongs on the chat subgroup rather than the main group. There can be no 100% purity in either venue. But the thrust of a topic is pretty clear even before it starts in most cases. The LaTeX topic being a perfect example. Since it's used with a text editor there will be very little NVDA related content when discussing LaTeX. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep. ~ Saul Bellow, To Jerusalem and Back

Soulseek qt and NVDA?
Tyler Wood
Hello,
I'm currently running soulseek 2017.2.20 and am able to use it relatively easily. Upgrade to the latest build, 2018.11, and accessibility goes utterly and completely out the window. Tabbing and shift tabbing yields absolutely 0 results, similarly using the arrow keys. I read somewhere that there were some DLL files that could perhaps make QT programs more accessible and intuitive to screen readers. Is this still around and if so, does anyone know how to go about this? Thanks for any help.
