Currently, well for the last two weeks, the CELA library here in

Most of it seems pretty haywire; when I do a search I think I am

When I do a search, I am getting something I have never heard

After I press the search button and press h for heading a couple of

I hear;

Is this a NVDA feature?

The effort involved in "converting" NVDA to run on anything other than Windows
would in my opinion be greater than starting from scratch (but with a good
understanding of what a screenreader should provide for the user) and writing
new code.

Android (alongside which you might as well include Linux systems in general)
and iOS work so completely differently from Windows that very little of the
code which has been created for NVDA would be useful or transferrable.

I've no idea how "easily" the Linux Orca screenreader system might be
transferrable to Android, but that's about the only possibility I can think of
for re-using code from an existing project to work on a different operating
system.

Antony.

I remember that it was discussed a long time ago in the Romanian community. Someone suggested it  for Android and Linux. Anyway, I don't know if this will be possible in the future. However, I consider that an NVDA aapplication for IOS isn't necessary, as VoiceOver is a very good screen reader, That's my opinion as an IOS user.

Hi,

first, no, it is not possible.

This would not work, becuase:

  • You should program NVDA from the Scratch for each operating system.
  • Apple does not allow to execute binary Code and grab system information on iOS.
  • And many more problems...

Hi,

Personally, I'd say that both of these are highly unlikely. The amount of effort involved for android would most likely be immense, and apple's sandboxing infrastructure would make this impossible unless something drastically changed in their approach. Apples and oranges and all that.

Cheers,

Daniel

irc clients and nvda

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for an irc client
that works with NVDA? I was using chatzilla for the longest time, and
liked how I could review the output window as well.

I tried mirc, however found that reviewing output with object nav
(assuming there's not a more affective way to do it) often didn't
contain all the text, and missed the last few lines.

Thanks for any help,

the dust. I now have a win ten box. I now use Chrome as a default browser. I’ll

Hi

There is reference to what you are looking for, but it will require you to manually add things to nvda.

Click here https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html and search for custom and phonetic.  Help for Braille is also in the manual.

Hi

I've just joined the list and am hoping someone can help with a couple of questions.

Later this year I'm studying a course where I need to be able to read phonetic/phonemic symbols.

Does anyone know if it is possible to alter NVDA in the same way as I have been able to do for Jaws? I want to be able to have NVDA speak back phonetic/phonemic symbols to me and name them correctly. This is specific to linguistic studies, and does not refer to the words such as "charley" or "delta" NVDA uses to clarify which letter is being announced.

It would also be helpful if I could have NVDA display these symbols in braille with my braille display.

I have a list of unicode symbols and what they mean. Is there a way I can  add the list of symbols to my selected speech engine so NVDA will announce the symbols correctly, and to the braille tables as well?

Also, if I run NVDA portable, can I still use Eloquence as my prefered speech engine?

Part of the course has a teaching component and I need to use the computer in the classroom at Tech. It would make things much easier if I could use portable NVDA on a thumb drive with Eloquence.

Thanks for any help with this.

Hi Brian and all.

Thanks for the advice.

I think it has now been resolved.

In outlook.com on the web you have to hit settings.

Scroll down to hit more settings.

type safe.

This presents options relating to blocked, safe and newsgroup domains.

Add nvda@nvda.groups.io to both safe domain and newsgroups, when you have entered this in the field type enter key after and after you complete changes press save or discard and that is it.

Whilst your there have a look at what has and has not been blocked just in case any other group address is in the blocked list.

Regards Adrian.

Your email service provider is what bounces Groups.io e-mail messages, and if using the "unbounce request" doesn't resolve it, then you need to contact your email service provider and ask them to whitelist any domain that ends in groups.io.

I recently posted about issues with Earthlink blocking Groups.io messages as spam.

If customers complain, and make it clear that Groups.io is a subscription e-mail list service, these issues with blocking/bouncing are likely to get resolved both more rapidly and more permanently.
