How do I change the time of day when Windows 10 automatically checks for updates. Right now it's doing so exactly at 7:29 pm, and I feel the slight bit of sluggishness when it does. I'd like it to check and update outside of my active usage hours. Thanks for any help. I've looked through settings, and haven't found anything that will let me do it so far. If there is something I'm missing that may not be NVDA accessible, even that info would be helpful. Thanks.

Just tried it with another voice off the USB stick and it is loading off the USB stick and not the computer.
It also looks as though now you do not have to put in the backslash like before for example e:\nvda.exe as shown.
I was also using a windows 10 computer running the latest version of nvda 2019.1 rc1
I will note this on the website. Could any one else confirm it works and not the installer version but the USB version.
It will not work on the windows log on screen with a portable version I can not try it that way as mine all boot into windows. But would be wondering if it was used with the run dialogue box entering in the drive letterthen nvda.exe like shown would it start up?

You could also try the following this is more if you only have the nvda files on the USB stick but not in the nvda directory.
Press the Windows key + letter R then type in the following e:nvda.exe then press the enter key
If it is the e: drive one then nvda will start off the USB stick.
Some times what can happen is the USB stick might be another letter so you might have to try some others.
So in the run dialogue if the previous one did not work it might be f:nvda.exe then press the enter key to start it up.
Some times it brings up the contents of the USB stick and all the times it just strts NVDA.
I just tried it and the default voice on the stick is the Windows 10 one but on the computer is e speak.
Just to make sure i will change the voice on the usb stick and redo.

Windows doesn't run autorun files automatically any
longer from thumb drives as a security measure against malicious code
running. You can run Narrator, run NVDA, then close Narrator.

If i remember right the auto play function was turned off back in Windows 7 or was it 8?
If you want stuff to autoplay you will need to turn it on in your machine. It will work on a CD but do not think it runs any more with a usb stick.
You have to start NVDA another way. I do have some examples on my nvda audio turtorials page on different ways of starting nvda. if you are going to another machine learn the 2 shortcuts to turn it on then start nvda from off the usb stick that way. Alot easier for new people.
When you get to the web page jump down to the section for usb stick or CD and or autoplay and to turn it on.
it can be found on the following page at http://accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20audio%20tutorials.html There are a few different ways.

For all practical intents and purposes, no.
Autorun is a function of Windows, and it has been turned off for ages now because it became apparent that it posed a significant security threat not too terribly long in to its use. For quite some time, I've been having the same intermittent issues as Rosemary and others with NVDA losing speech. For me, it happens most of the time when I'm in Word but occasionally occurs in Outlook and Firefox. This morning after installing the latest add-on update, I had to restart my computer twice before it would work properly. I figured out how to access the log through the NVDA tools menu. Where can I send it? Thank you.

Baum created a driver for Vario pro devices, that is vario pro braille displays 80 and 64, taso modules etc. Unfortunately the driver is being not further developed because Baum is insolvent. In order for the braille display to show up in NVDA’s settings, please do following. Don’t forget to read the readme file and the gesture map.
Now when you start NVDA, in the braille settings you should find the Baum vario pro braille display and NVDA should recognize it.
Babbage or NV Access would finalize the driver but they need access to a device for doing that.

Firstly, have you restarted the computer after updating NVDA? While I'd like to say you shouldn't need to, in practice, I've found it does occasionally cause random problems.
If you can find a situation which reliably causes issues, could you please record the exact steps so I can try and replicate it.
If you are using any add-ons, make sure they are up to date, and also try running NVDA with add-ons disabled to see if that makes a difference: Press NVDA+q, then down arrow to "Restart with add-ons disabled" and press ENTER to restart NVDA. Then replicate the steps which crashed NVDA and see if they still do.
Finally, if you could send us a copy of your nvda.log, nvda-old.log and crash dump, we can have a look and see what is going on.
