Suggestion for a Possible Option Regarding NVDA Profiles
Hi, guys,
Playing with my favorite part of NVDA now, which is described on the subject line, I just thought about something that I guess it could be quite useful. I don't know whether it's possible at all, but it would be nice if we could make a trigger for a profile from the window title, or, better yet, from parts of it. Example, suppose I want to make a profile for when I'm reading something on Notepad, but I want this profile to be triggered just with this specific document. Same goes, then, for a specific webpage. Now, with this option, on the field "window title" or something like that, I would type something like: "My File - Notepad". Or else " file - Notepad". In the first example, the trigger is "My File - Notepad". This means that nothing apart from "My File - Notepad" would be assumed as the trigger. However, there also could be an option to check or uncheck regarding cap-sensitive triggers. In the second example, everything ending with " File - Notepad" would be assumed as the trigger. This means, for example, that even if I had a file called "Test File", opening it on Notepad would trigger the profile in question. Don't know if I could explain it as I'd like, but if this thread gets some interest, we can discuss it further and I can try to explain better :)

Yep, I remember using Bex in my early school days.
I don’t miss it, but now that you mentioned it, yes I do remember the capital pitch-change!

Anybody remember back in the early '80s: David Halliday produced the Braille Edit and BEX which were word processing programs for the Apple 2 series computer? He made the pitch rise if the first letter of a word was capitalized; and rise even higher if the whole word was capitalized. One could get used to that and it wouldn't slow down reading like saying "cap" before capital letters. It was quite innovative for those years.

Re: In ms word how to search a particular word
I just played with this with NVDA a short while ago, and again with NVDA off.
NVDA is using Word's own search via the Navigation pane that opens when you hit CTRL+F or NVDA+CTRL+F. When the search is done, focus is sitting on the "Next Result" button, and each activation moves you from the currently focused occurrence of the found word/phrase to the next, highlights are unaffected other than the one that indicates actual current focus moving from one occurrence to the next. If I hit ESCape once I've arrived at the occurrence I'm interested in, focus jumps back in to the document itself and that instance is selected. If I then right arrow or left arrow it removes selection if that's what one wants to do, or if I start typing it replaces that instance with whatever I type, which is standard behavior. As far as PDF files go, much depends on the actual PDF reader being used, so it is vital to know that. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell. ~ Edward Abbey

Hi Margaret
Start your copy of nvda with the following keys ctrl + alt key + the letter N Now you have NVDA running press the following keys the NVDA key + ctrl key + the letter S this will bring up the select synthesizer settings in NVDA. You can arrow down and up this area to see what other synth packages there are.. You should be able to select one from the ones there. If you say the other ones have become unregistered it may not be a good idea to pick them until they are..
You should after picking one be able to tab down to the ok button then press the enter key on the ok button.
To pick a voice from that package do the following Press the nvda key + ctrl key + the letter V this will bring up the voice settings section in nvda. You will notice in this section it will also say the synth package you used and you can change it from there this is in nvda 2019.1 Tab down until you hear NVDA say voice or if you tab again after it varient. In either of those 2 sections it is a combo box you can use the down and up arrow keys to pick a voice. find one you like and press the enter key on it to select it.
You can also change the rate of your voice etc from this section. You can then use the nvda key + ctrl key + the letter C to save your configuration.
To update your version of nvda use the nvda key + the letter N then when the preferences section comes up or the menu then arrow down to help a sub menu will come up i think when you use the right arrow key. then arrow down to check for updates and press the enter key. It will then check for a update and if this is one which there will be download it to your computer it will install over its self. Just follow the directions to do that.
Hope it helps.

Re: Code Factory Blues
Gene
First, why do you want to find another voice if all
you need to do is reregister the Code Factory Voice, especially if you want
Eloquence? As far as I know, registration is free. I believe, though
you can check, that if you run NVDA once a month with the voice, you will remain
registered. So just running it for a moment with the Eloquence voice
should be all you need to do.
As far as changing to the Microsoft voice on your
computer is concerned, are you using the SAPI version of Eloquence or the
Add-on? It may affect how you run the Microsoft voice. I'm not sure
I can tell you just how to switch but answering my question may make it easier
for you to find out.

I'm once again trying to learn NVDA after many years as a JAWS user running 64 bit Windows 7 Home. One of my problems is that my attempts keep being interrupted by one thing or another and I have to start virtually all over from scratch. I purchased a couple of Code Factory voices with one being an Eloquence that sounds reasonably like the Eloquence with JAWS that I'm used to. Apparently, I upset Code Factory by not loading NVDA frequently enough for them since the voice switched to something else from Eloquence that it had been on the last time I used NVDA and I apparently have to re-register the Code Factory voice again. This will be the third time and I'll be in search of another synthesizer since I have a problem understanding eSpeak or whatever the current one is. Could someone please remind me how to find out what the current one is? During one of my previous attempts, I found that the SAPI voice for Win 7 was easier to understand than eSpeak, but can't remember how to switch. Could some kind person please provide instructions? I'll check out voices again when I can get NVDA more understandable, but does anyone know if there has been anything new other than from Code Factory in the last several months that works with Win 7? I seem to be running NVDA 2018.1.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Margaret

It appears that what is wanted is an indication of
a capital letter when reading, not arrowing letter by letter. This has
been needed for a long time in NVDA.

All:
I am relatively new to NVDA, but I think I have searched the manual thoroughly. Knowing whether words are or are not capitalized is crucial in my work; however, it is too time consuming to read by letter. Is there a way to cause NVDA to announce capitalization of words when reading by line, sentence, or paragraph? This may be the only feature in JAWS that I really miss. Ps I didn’t see this as a feature in any add-ins either.
