question on win 10 and nvda announcing program

Richard Kuzma

Hello there,

I was wondering if there is a setting somewhere to have nvda NOT announce the program title when it is lost?

Here is the scenario.

Windows ten

I have a profile setup to have no speech when groove music is active,

However when I press enter on an mp3, the computer announces groove music and then starts the song and then nvda goes silent as wanted.

Is there a way to have it not announce the groove music title?

Thanks

rich

transfering music onto iPad with NVDA and latest iTunes

Hello, I had just burned some CDS for mom which are not available on any music streaming services such as spotify, apple Music, etc. My question, is there an easy way to transfer what I converted from her cds onto her iPad using the latest iTunes 12.9.4? Any help is appreciated.

What synthesizer are you using?  It sounds to me like some sort of tracking problem and the first thing I test is what happens with a different synthesizer.  I vaguely seem to recall that a certain synthesizer doesn't work properly with say all.

Re: Reaper Tutorial

Yes, this is neat too, and I kind of wish I'd known about it when the course was actually taking place.
So far I've only listened to the Audio Essentials stuff but the instructors are surprisingly good. I say "surprisingly" because I'm not normally a fan of audio tutorials and such. The only problem is that the classes are archived as mp3s and were originally broadcast over Team Talk. The quality isn't too bad but not really good enough (imo) to properly demonstrate some of the things they are going for. But there is a lot of material there, and the three instructors are smart, personable and even fun to listen to.
It seems they also have an Advanced Reaper one, a composition course (presumably using Reaper too) and also one for Goldwave.

No apology is necessary.  We're in a period of transition and certain topics do present themselves as examples, like this one did.  It's going to be a learning experience for all, and folks new to the group more so than those who've been here a while.

I'm glad your issue is resolved.

Re: Reaper Tutorial

Hi.

I just got reaper last week and haven't really gotten anywhere with it yet, but I have found a good number of resources.

Check out the reaper accessibility wiki, it should be a great starting point:
https://reaperaccessibility.com/index.php/Main_Page

They have created an html version of the user guide there. You can also download a number of pdf files from the main Reaper site itself. This includes the user guide, but also a few other useful things. Definitely start with the wiki and follow the instructions on getting started. You will want to download some add-ons that plug into Reaper.

Re: Selecting sentences with NVDA

Tony Malykh

Hi, there is actually a way.

Navigate to the sentence you want to select with Alt+Down/Up. The cursor at this moment is actually at the beginning of the sentence. So press NVDA+F9 to mark the start of selection. Then press Alt+Down to go to the next sentence. Press NVDA+F10 twice quickly. Voila. The sentence will end up in your clipboard. It will actually include the first letter of the following sentence, but I would call it a quirk of NVDA+F9 and NVDA+F10 commands. If it bothers you, just press the left button once right before the last step.

While I'm reading and reviewing complex documents I need to navigate sentence by sentence to properly understand it. Sometimes for revisions I'm also required to select particular sentences. Right now, I use the typical command of shift+ctrl+right arrow or shift+down arrow to do so. Is there a more effficient way out there?

All inputs are welcome

Re: Making pop-up notifications go away

Thank you for the attached, this is very helpful. I posted this to this list, because I thought it was an NVDA key that I could use to make the notification go away. I’m sorry I’m not an expert on knowing which things you have to do through windows keyboard commands and which things you have to do through NVDA hot keys. Period.

Suspending notifications has been built into Windows 10, if not from day one, for a long time now.

If the goal is to suspend them during a PowerPoint presentation (or anything you're duplicating to another screen [often a projector]) the first method mentioned is best.  If you just want to shut up notifications for some set duration the Quiet Time option is preferable.

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-notifications-while-presenting-windows-10

(Be aware that if you are using a ad blocker the page above will have a pop-up appear over it, which you can (and will have to dismiss) using the controls on it to either continue with your adblocker active or whitelist the windowscentral site).

This is also a topic that would have been best suited to the Chat Subgroup, since it's definitely not about NVDA.  But the proverbial hammer is not yet being brought down.  I'm hoping that folks will start asking themselves the question, , “Is what I’m about to ask related to using NVDA directly to accomplish something, or to control NVDA itself?,” independently and choose posting venue according to whether the answer to same is, Yes (main group), or "No" (chat subgroup).
