Hi All,

For those of you using zotero, do not update to the latest update released on april 11. It brakes the reading of lists in folders. NVDA anounces grid unavailable, and plays the error sound.

i really wish that someone find a solution for this problem.
i really dont understand why should i use vpn or any antifiltering
software to open nvda website in iran?
when i open nvda website, sometimes nvda says problem loading page.
sometimes i dont recieve any error message, nvda just says connecting,
but when i open
bbcpersian.com
nvda says that accessing this website is not possible in farsi!
whome should i contact and inform about this issue?

Not sure if any of the voices in the speech platform package will suit your
needs. there are voices for both english and other languages that i do not
speak


I can drop box them for you they are about 340 meg with all voices and the
speech platform runtime engine.


You will need a program like 7 zip or one that can unzip the files for you
first. When done look for the speech platform runtime engine and install it
first. It is the only file that does not have the name of the file with TTS
in in standing for text to speech and the name of the voice and language.

The speech hub package also has other synths and voices but in a package and
can be gotten off the following website at http://www.speakon.org.uk/

the folder for the add on it will need to be installed into nvda. Then later
on you can change to those other synth and voices.


There may be other software there that you may like to try.

Did you download the attachment again?  At times, downloads become corrupted
and you don't get an error message during the download.  Always download
whatever you are working with again if the first download doesn't work as
expected.

It sounds as though something is missing in the download you did.

If you want to use Winamp, you may.  I don't know about other programs such as VLC player.  This requires a few steps but it is very logical.  Also, there is an NVDA Winamp add-on.  I don't know what different functions it has. 

 

To do this mmanually, do the following:

When you are at the point where you want to make the bookmark, pause play by pressing c.

Open the Winamp jump to time dialog, control j.

You are in a field that shows the current time position you are in.

NVDA says selected.  That means you don't have to select it.  Simply use control c to paste it to the clipboard.

Paste the time into a Notepad file and save it with whatever name you want wherever you want.

The next time you want to resume reading and use the manually created book mark equivalent, open the Notepad file, select the time with control a for select all, and copy it to the clipboard.

Close Notepad if you wish.

Start the file playing in Winamp.  Pause it so you can hear your screen-reader easily.

Open the jump to time dialog, control j.

Paste the time in with control v. 

Press enter.

You are now at the place where you want to resume.

 

This may sound like a lot of steps but they are very logical and use concepts, such as copy and paste that are commonly used in Windows and Windows programs.  If you try this two or three times, you may find it is much easier than it may sound when reading.

Are you using Winamp with JAWS or NVDA?  JAWS has a feature that allows you to make a book mark although that isn't part of the actual program.  I don't know if NVDA has an add-on that does this.  Whether it does or not, you can manually make the equivalent of one. If you want, I'll explain how.

I first thought about audio book readers to purchase, but realized you would likely wish to do this without additional cost.

At Microsoft Community, I

found a way to use Windows Media Player to read audio books, and with a free plugin WMP will create a single bookmark wherever you stop reading. I will tri this tomorrow if you want to wait, but let’s see what the list may think.

I have copied the text of the solution below, but at the very bottom I have included the URL as well.

There is an automatic plugin you can download and install that will allow you to resume where you last left, however, I do not believe it allows you to set multiple book marks. You can search online for a 3rd-party plugin, but this may do it for you:

1. Go to: http://www.catenalogic.com/downloads/mymediabookmarks/mymediabookmarks_exe_1.2.exe

2. Download the plugin and install

3. Open Windows Media Player

4. The initial setup will launch, it will want to update. Go through all the prompts and once it asks if you would like to close Windows Media Player now, go ahead and hit the 'X' in Windows Media Player (NOT the 'X' in the small update popup window that's telling you to close Windows Media Player)

5. From here, once the update is complete, restart Windows Media Player and either play audio or watch a video. The process is automatic, though you can go into the plugin options and uncheck the automatic bookmark settings. Basically, if you're listening to or watching something and you just close out of Windows Media Player, or select a different file, the next time you go back into the audio or video file, it will resume from its last spot.

Using Windows10 Mail with the latest NVDA Win10 Essentials, what’s the best way to, when within an Email’s body, review the subject, and from fields? I tried Alt+numbers on the top row, like with other Emails, but no go. Any other ideas, apart from having to implement the Review cursor for this purpose? Sometimes when replying to an Email, it’s nice to put the person’s name who sent the below message, for which I’m having to even before I reply to the Email, Escape out of the Email’s body, and read the current line of the Email, to remind me of the person’s name, or also to see what the subject of the Email is etc.

I am not comfortable with leaving developer mode on as it does open security holes. I will test it with NVDA when I get this answer.
