Hello,

You dind colors toggle under Preferences, Settings, Document Formatting. Once there, tab six times and you're on the option you need. Check the box, and you'll get colour announcement.

I have it thanks.

BTW, has there been any consideration of offering your braille edition in a digital format?

Hi Robert,

You should have got an email straight away, although some email servers might put it in spam.

If you go to https://www.nvaccess.org/my-account/downloads/ you should be able to download all material you have purchased.

Kind regards

I have no idea, as I cannot get it to load under any web browser to make even a quick assessment.   That was not the site I know to be problematic, which those of you who are on e-mail have already received the link to, which has been redacted from the archive.

When the first thing on the page is an audio recording of Mary Poppins Returns, which has only very recently had commercial release on DVD/Blu-Ray, the probability of that having been produced with the permission of Disney Studios is zero.

Re: Hemingway Editor - Command for Colors with NVDA

I have never used NVDA to try to report background color, but I seem to recall discussions of it being able to do so for Excel cells (as well as reporting text color as well).  The exact how I do not know, and I have not found the magic search terms to pull anything up from the group archive.

The main webpage for Hemingway shows a number of blocks of text with background colors that demonstrate what the software actually does. In fact, their demo is where you paste your own text if using the web app.   I am not finding it particularly accessible, as I wasn't able to get to the various boxes giving counts, and background colors for the various things it flags, except by mousing over them.

Unfortunately the Desktop app, which is likely at least somewhat more accessible (possibly entirely accessible), costs $19.99.  I did not continue along far enough to see what, if any, refund policy they might have or if there's a fully functional demo version that will run for some short period of time.

Unless I'm missing something (and I could be) the web app on the Hemingway site has limited accessibility in terms of what one would actually be using it for (which is not exactly surprising given that the presentation is directly targeted at vision using color-coding.  Others may be able to evaluate whether it's my lack of ultra-in-depth skill with NVDA that's made me have that opinion, but I'm just not seeing this as being an easy web app/website to use.

Hemingway Editor - Command for Colors with NVDA

David Russell

Hi Brian and others,

I am interested to use the Hemingway App on its website, once I put my
document into their editor.

I can read the summary report, but I cannot read their notations,
arranged by color as to subject, that I understand to be embedded in
the document I produce.

At one time, I worked for an organization that put their quality
assurance highlights in a similar fashion, but was using an older
version of Jaws at the time, around 2010.

I thought Hemingway may function similarly if colors function were enabled.

Hello folks,

Using Windows 10 pro 64, NVDA 19.1, MS Office 2003/Excel.

I'm having trouble running Excel with NVDA.  With NVDA running, Excel
will only flash and stop; reverting to the previous screen. If Excel is
already running, NVDA will not start.  Excel runs properly with JAWS
demo; runs, but not usably with Narrator.

I have used this combination (NVDA and Excel) successfully for many
months.  Perhaps I should go back to an earlier version of NVDA.  See my
note (below) posted on another list.

Anybody, thanks for ideas.

Howard

Trying different screen readers:
1. With NVDA, I get the results I described in my message above.
2.  With Narrator, Pressing enter on the desktop shortcut, I get two or
three clicks and revert to the previously running application.  Pressing
the spacebar will start Excel, but no useful information is read.
3. With JAWS (40 minute demo), Excel comes up and allows normal
functioning: data entry, reading cells, opening and saving file.

It appears to me that this is caused by an interaction with the screen
readers.

I probably could get done what I need to in less than forty minutes but
it sure is inconvenient.  Maybe something to ask the NVAccess folks.

Along the same lines I am finding the new format of spellcheck very annoying in word. When there is a spelling error it reads part of the line or sentence the word is on but I don’t know what the word is until I go to suggestions. If it’s something like a punctuation issue i haven’t gotten it to tell me.
