It may be the IP address that's being blocked, not the provider or site.
It appears that nvaccess.org is on a dedicated server, at the IP address 45.33.21.113
It may be only that IP address that's being blocked, especially if it changed recently and the one it has now used to be something your government did want to block.
The last time they changed anything in that record may have been in December of 2018, but that's only a guess based on some technical information and only the nvaccess people can say for sure.

All that said, if you're getting a 403 error, that probably is nvaccess blocking you for some reason, not the other way around. Can you paste the full text of the error you get?

Lastly, you may be able to use tor to access it. A bit of work to get setup, but if it is a blocking based on geographic location issue, that may very well get you around it. A VPN or a proxy is probably easier, but may not be free.

Jumping Between Clickables

Luke Davis

Hello

Is there any reasonable way, or is there some way in development, to jump between items on a web page that are "clickable"?

The manual only mentions clickables in regards to the indicator in the braille section, and the checkbox in the document format configuration description, and even in this latter it is very sparse information.

I have found various discussions about clickables, whether they should be spoken, whether lots in a row should be spoken, and how to get them to stop speaking, but nothing about how to navigate them.

For example, if I have a bunch of links on a page, I can skip between them with k, v, u, etc. If there are buttons, I can use b and B. And so on.
But how does one do this with clickables? Sometimes you run into quite long lists of these, and it would be nice to move through them quickly, or to jump to them from another part of the page.

Frankly I'm surprised this has not been done already, but maybe there is some reason I can't think of. Or maybe it is being done and just isn't documented in an obvious way.

Luke

Is it possible to create custom braille tables for nvda

Hi all.
I don't own or have access to a braille display but I am trying to help some friends.
First of all sorry if this has been asked before.
As the subject says, I am wondering if we can modify a braille table for our needs.

For example, in modern Greek braille, if a letter is accented we add dot 5 in front of the Greek character.

But some people don't want to see it at all so I was wondering if we could change this.

As you can understand, this is a matter of preference. Some people want to see the accented letters and some not.
So probably the best solution would be to have 2 Greek tables. One with the accented letters and one without.
So what can I do about this?
Is it a liblouis issue or is it an nvda issue?
I hope somebody can help.
Thanks
Nikos

You are right the basic intermittent issue has been around generally since the xp days.
If you look at logs you do often see warnings but no actual errors. I do not have some comparison logs handy and as it is quite a small irritation probably low priority, but despite it being in the tracker I did not find it.
My poor search skills probably!

Yes this seems to happen a lot on windows 10, not seen it on 7, but have encountered unknown on 7 for no obvious reason so I'm thinking that the software is sending multiple events and depending on which is 'seen' you get different results.

Subject: [nvda] NVDA With Excel

Hello folks,

Using Windows 10 pro 64, NVDA 19.1, MS Office 2003/Excel.

I'm having trouble running Excel with NVDA. With NVDA running, Excel will only flash and stop; reverting to the previous screen. If Excel is already running, NVDA will not start. Excel runs properly with JAWS demo; runs, but not usably with Narrator.

I have used this combination (NVDA and Excel) successfully for many months. Perhaps I should go back to an earlier version of NVDA. See my note (below) posted on another list.

Anybody, thanks for ideas.

Howard

Trying different screen readers:
1. With NVDA, I get the results I described in my message above.
2. With Narrator, Pressing enter on the desktop shortcut, I get two or three clicks and revert to the previously running application. Pressing the spacebar will start Excel, but no useful information is read.
3. With JAWS (40 minute demo), Excel comes up and allows normal functioning: data entry, reading cells, opening and saving file.

It appears to me that this is caused by an interaction with the screen readers.

I probably could get done what I need to in less than forty minutes but it sure is inconvenient. Maybe something to ask the NVAccess folks.

As an aside, I have issues with the current nvda in word 2003, but what I have done is to keep an older nvda as a portable version and am happy to switch to that when its needed.
I use a batch file to shut one and open the other at will.
Its pretty simple to do in such situations.
I know I'm a dinosaur!

Re: 2019.1.1 released

Brian's Mail list account

Yes this is win 7 as well. I have a suspicion that in fact the error occurs due to all the failed to removed messages at update time hanging onto the current log file and hence when the new copy starts the old log is locked rather than renamed to old as it should be. Whether the routines in 7 are slower or its as I say something in the hardware or software that compounds it, I have no idea, but only a handful of people have the issue and its not every time either, and it proved impossible to duplicate by any developer back several issues ago, It all started when renaming folderrs so the correct support files were used was brought in by Mick to solve another issue.
Its just one of those odd things.
