when you press connect, you press after making a key on ok, do you hear 2 tones that the connection is right?

HiDoug Lee and all,
Thanks very much for your excellent explanation.
I do not use linux, I use Windows, but because the repository where Weather_Plus is located does not use the Windows convention for CRLF?
The Notepadplusplus is used for the elaboration of the readme.md files and they are encoded in UTF-8, I think that this is also used for the elaboration of the source files, if I am not mistaken all the word processor use the CRLF convention if you have Windows?
I think Zvonimir  should use this convension and not the LF convension  used by Linux seems more logical to me.
What you think?
How to avoid this in the future I do not know?
Thank you for this passionate debate.
Cheers.

[nvda-addons] Important note for Weather_Plus6.0 translators

English first:

Linux and Windows create text files differently: In Linux, lines end with a line-feed character, or LF. In Windows, lines end with two characters: A carriage return, or CR, followed by a line feed, LF. We commonly abbreviate these as LF and CRLF, respectively.

Zvonimir was saying that the project uses the LF convention but your files use the CRLF convention. The result is that comparing original files with your files will make it seem like you changed every line in the files. This, of course, is an accident; but it makes detecting actual code changes more difficult.

Re: NVDA remote

Blaster

I copied these instructions a while back, they worked for me, but I
haven't tried it with the newer version of remote that was mentioned
above, However, I think it will still work as these instructions are
fairly straight forward. If anything has changed, I'm sure someone
will chime in here and make a correction.

The Following is the process for setting up a NVDA remote session.

1. Go to the NVDA menu and arrow down to tools.

Expand the tools submenu with the right arrow key,
then arrow down to remote.

Expand the remote submenu with the right arrow key.

The first option will be connect.
Press enter. You will land on 2 radio buttons that say client and server.

Choose client which is the first button.

Tab once and you will land on another radio button with 2 choices,
control another computer, and allow my computer to be controlled.

Your helper will choose the button, control another computer.

Tab once and enter the NVDA remote server. It is:

www.nvdaremote.com

Tab once more. You will be in a field that asks you for a key.

You can either choose your own or have the system generate one for you.

I usually just choose a simple 4 digit key. Next, tab to the ok button.

Now what you have to do is pretty much the same,

except when you get to the radio buttons that say, control another
computer, or allow my computer to be controlled, arrow down to the
second button.

Then tab and type in the remote server name:

www.nvdaremote.com

Tab once and enter the same key that your helper chose.

Tab to the ok button and press enter.

You should hear a tone and you should be connected.

Your helper can toggle between controlling their computer and yours
with the f11 key.

Quentin,
I do have a laptop which was supposed to have a numpad. Nowadays, it's not working.
So, with this new proposal, would I lose all the functionalities related to object navigation?
If so, I'd imagine that the proposal for a hybrid layout is more desirable, especially for me because this way I don't lose access to all of this.

Re: key assignments in NVDA

Quentin Christensen

Hi Luke,

Actually yes and no - The main point of Laptop keyboard layout is, as you note, the assumption that you don't have a number pad, hence moving the keys around to accomodate that fact.

When laptop layout was created, it wasn't made as a whole, every key defined from scratch layout, but rather was more like a series of "exceptions" from the regular (desktop) layout.

That the desktop object navigation keys got left set for "all" layouts rather than desktop layout only, was essentially an oversight.  I've seen it come up a couple of times, and when we discussed it this week, we agreed there is a use case for using laptop keyboard layout and still wanting access to the number pad for navigation (as per the original post that started this thread).

I'll post a new thread shortly with my proposed solution for comment.

Kind regards

Quentin.

pads, or I use external keyboards on my smaller laptops without them, so have
never learned or much used laptop layout.

So I'm saying I had always assumed (wrongly, it seems) that laptop layout would
act as if you had no numpad as far as the screen reader was concerned, which
would leave any numpad you do have to function as it would by default.
That seems the most logical arrangement to me.
