Hello,

Total Commander does indeed announce the panels, but you don't hhhave to press anything otherthan tab, to move between
one panel and the other.

I've used it for about 20 years or more now, with Jaws first and, since
2009, with NVDA.

The good thing, compared to Free Commander, is that it announces panels,
amongst otherthings.

Try simply tabbing, and let me know whether it works for you.

When I press Nvda + T, only the Total Commander window is reported.
The Tab key does not report panels.
So I want to ask if any of you are using Total Commander, and whether
it will ever be implemented into Nvda by announcing panels in Total
Commander.

This has evidently already been tried as the message says that the tab key doesn't report panels.  So if it works in your case, perhaps some difference in settings may be found by comparison.  I don't use the program so I can't discuss anything except the possibility that maximizing the program may solve the problem if it isn't maximized.  If it is maximized, try normalizing it.  Aside from that, perhaps a comparison of settings in the program might help.

Also, it might be useful to test the program with a JAWS demo on the machine where panels aren't being announced.

I just thought of one other possibility but I have no idea if it could make a difference.  You might try changing the screen resolution.  Comparing the current resolutions between the two computers might be a good idea before experimenting.

Re: Nvda, Total Commander and its' panels

It is clear that Total Commander is not exposing things to the screen reader either because it's coded "irregularly" or uses old Windows style code while NVDA is trying to keep up with more recent versions.  Like all applications that fall into this group, that means an add-on would need to be created to make it accessible.

It is not a part of the core function of NVDA to make every application that exists accessible, and that's why the multitude of add-ons exist, and one already exists.

The fact that Total Commander is just a jazzed up version of File Explorer, which will very soon be getting a tabbed version under Windows 10, makes it quite unlikely that anyone is going to devote any new effort to this at this time, but the existing one should work.

A web search on "Total Commander NVDA Add-On" turns up two pertinent topics, one on this very group and another on the freelists NVDA Add-Ons list:

https://www.freelists.org/post/nvda-addons/total-commander-and-nvda,2

https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topic/24876251

which gives the direct link to an existing NVDA Add-On called Total Commander enhanced on Github (and whose author has posted recently to one of the blind technology lists) that has been updated to work with NVDA 2019.1:  https://github.com/Novalis7747/totalcmd-enhanced

This is why doing web searches is absolutely essential, and something that should be done first, before asking anywhere.  I learned all of the above from a simple web search on "Total Commander NVDA Add-On" and looking strictly at the first six returned results, digging a bit further into the links given in the post from this group noted above.

seems to not be accessible or at least none of my addons show.

I assume it uses the newer quantom inaccessible interfface sadly.

However, it appears that the older waterfox while itself will be
eventually dieing when 68.0 comes out is not going away in fact
according to the waterfox blog its going to be called waterfox classic,
and will remain being updated with security and bugfix updates when
possible, there won't be any schedual as such but both branches will be
active, its just that eventually all addons will be updated for the
alpha version.

According to the blog, there are addons updating, it stresses its the
first alpha.

I don't have any way to contact the devs directly about us screen reader
users but it would be good to well have them on board.

Unlike firefox quantom it does appear that generally things do load in
an accessible manner but there are a lot of changes under the hood.

I would encourage anyone and everyone to test this.

Its good to know that unlike firefox, all that will happen is that
waterfox will simply split in half.

Waterfox will be modernised and people will be encouraged to use the
latest and greatest.

Waterfox 56.x branch will be renamed waterfox classic and will continue
as it is till the end of time most likely.

Now I will of course see later on if I can update and see what goes and
what loads.

If classic addons work on 68 like noscript 5x or even if some of the
newer stuff is accessible I will try to see what that does.

On the other side, there will not be any reason to keep that version if
its got issues though it would be good to try to nipp as many of these
issues in the bud and I think unlike mozilla and its view on security
and accessibility software the people behind waterfox won't be so stupid
over it.

could someone please test if following is reproducible in Office 2010?

  1. With NVDA running, open an Excel sheet.

What should happen: NVDA should read the save as dialog which appears on the screen.

What seems to happen: NVDA does not read the save as dialog and you have to press alt+tab twice. After that, NVDA reports it correctly.

If the point about the VPN is really true, this is ridiculous. I use Matlab all the time and it can manage this even when a VPN is running.

Just curious why that would be? The system would still have internet access, and possibly from the original out-going IP address, for that matter.

checking the check boxes in ccleaner

Brian Moore

Hi all.  So in the last several versions of Ccleaner, the checked state of the toggles for which items you want cleaned haven't read with NVDA.

Just reinstalled a fresh windows 10 on a machine and now I can't tell which is checked and not by default.  I usually make lots of changes particularly in the advanced section and the apps section.

Has anyone worked this out?

If so, how do you tell the state of these pretend check boxes?

Thanks.

Re: Nvda and Free Commander

Jacob Kruger

Jarek, it will only announce the current folder/directory that the current panel is focused on/browsing.

That's what was saying yesterday with regards to the golden cursor add-on allowing me to route mouse cursor to focus object, and then check mouse coordinates, to tell if it was to the left or the right.

So, there's no specific way to get it to tell you if free commander refers to it as panel 1 or panel 2.
