NVDA as a toolbox?
tvalusek@...
Hello, I can still use my eyes, although they are very week. I don't like the fact screenreaders still speak, but turning speech on and off frequently is cumbersome. It would be nice if there was an option to turn off the kind of speech I call "automatic feedback". I don't need focus reporting, automatic active window reporting, and other such things, but I'd like to have instant spoken feedback when I invoke screenreader command involving NVDA key. It would be also nice if there was a way to set form mode as a default for web browsing. The suggestions above are meant to enable a "toolbox mode" for NVDA, where it silently sits in background, not interfering in common computer use, but ready to speak whenever it's asked to. It would really enhance my user experience when working in Windows. Tomas Valusek

Re: Installing windows 10 with A Portable copy of NVDA
Kenny Dog <hurrikennyandopo@...>
Hi Helga
Is the upgrade of Windows from a usb stick or a upgrade from the pc?
There is a program that you can use for a clean install but you must have your serail number this can be found at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20tutorials%20for%20other%20programs.html It is called Windows PE and on that page is a link to the website of where you can get it from. I have not used it but others have.
The second question is under the keyboard settings on your pc there are 3 check boxs one for the insert key one for the extended insert key and the last for the capslock key. Check the last one and you should be able to use the capslock key. If you need to use the capslock key like normal you have to hit it 2 times until you hear it go on and 2 times to make it go off.
On my pc here i have all 3 checked and i can use any combo of them, but then again I have all 3 keys.
Your computer might also have a extended insert key or a insert key there some where it might be a good idea for some one to have a look just in case there is.

Installing windows 10 with A Portable copy of NVDA
Helga Schreiber
Hi all! How are you all? I just wanted to ask you,is it possible to install windows 10 with a portable copy of NVDA? I have the portable copy on my USV drive or thunmb drive. If so, waht are the steps in doing so? I'm jus wondering since I want to do this in a laptop computer that does not have an screen reader on it and it does not have the nonpad number keys. And I have another question, I want to use the NVDA key, which is the insert key, but since this computer does not have a nonpad where I can use it, how can I make the caps lock key to act as the NVDA key or insert key? I look forward in hering from you soon with any suggestions! regarding this matter. Thanks so much and God bless! regarding this matter! You'll know something is going on when you start installing. There will be screen after screen asking if you want to install one thing or another which have nothing at all to do with the program you really want to install. They are very sneaky and sometimes if you uncheck a box you will actually be installing the malware instead of declining it.

NVDACon Asia: Final Address – Mistakes Made, Lessons Learnt, Success Achieved & Acknowledgements
Bhavya shah
Dear all,
As many of you may be aware, an all-Asia continental online conference took place this past weekend on the 9th and 10th of July dedicated to the free and open source NVDA screen reader. Being an active part in its planning committee, there are a variety of things I would like to conclusively share – lessons learnt from past mistakes, overall reception, vision for the future and a thank you to all those who helped make this possible, all from a personal perspective. Inspired from the impact NVDA has had on my life and NVDACon International 2016’s chair’s encouragement to introduce regional conferences to our respective geographies, the idea of a South Asian version came to mind. However, a well-received survey I created to ascertain interest about the same disproved me – South Asia was insufficient to cover the countries we were receiving responses from, and thus came about the expansion to NVDACon Asia, where we now stand. The process of planning and preparation was difficult, with challenges throughout, but certain people like Ali Luhar, Shubham Tandon, Andy Whoo and others persisted with me. During academic commitments and time constraints, some of us organizers took time to invite speakers, spread the word, finalize details, take into account feedback and suggestions and do much more that complied with the magnitude of our aspiration. RadioUdaan and BlindHelp Project graciously offered their services, of live streaming and web hosting respectively, which we are very thankful for. As ideal session presenters, dignified individuals with experience and expertise in the corresponding areas, including Ashik Hirani, Ashish Singla, BlindHelp Team, Maheshinder Singh Khosla, Dinesh Kaushal and Manish Agarwal believed in what we were doing and gave excellent demonstrations, talks and presentations. We may have made mistakes, one major one being lack of session recording backups which the concerned organizer was unable to do due to unknown reasons and due to technicalities, a backup didn’t work either. Please send me any positive or negative feedback, reviews or critique you may have to my e-mail address bhavya.shah125@gmail.com and I shall try my best to incorporate this in any future regional NVDA conference. Some preset audio editors couldn’t function due to medical issues, but as a replacement, Ali Luhar, Umar Luhar and Mohammed Luhar worked in that place instead, which I would like to sincerely recognize. I remain in debt to Andy Whoo, Brandon Cross and Hinata Ma’am from North and Latin American geographies for having provided us with the powerful Teamtalk server where we hosted our conference. We tended to go a few minutes post-schedule, but cooperation from RadioUdaan, subsequent session speakers as well as listeners and attendees kept it going on smoothly. I am immensely pleased to share that almost 1500 people combining both Radioudaan listenership, Teamtalk participation and other indirect attendees tuned in to NVDACon Asia, and the overwhelming amount of post-conference appreciation the NVDACon Asia Planning Committeee has been sent is truly heartwarming. I consider this first attempt at a continental NVDA conference as a foundationally enlightening and positive step towards what I would like to see many regional, national and continental conferences going across the globe around the year. Only a community’s effort can produce quality, and I hope NVDACon Asia exemplifies that. Conclusively, I thank each and everyone of you, who played their non-trivial part they could play, apologize for errors I may have committed or people whom I missed to include above, express my earnest gratitude to all our speakers and listeners, and hope that those who could make it to the conference had something to gain and take away as lifelong memories from NVDACon Asia! Ease Of Access Center opening up?
Roger Stewart
I've noticed the past few times I've restarted nvda (mostly to install or update an add on) that the Ease Of Access Center pops open. If I need to do several add on upgrades this can get annoying. Is there a way to stop this from happening? As I said, this has only recently started so think it must be something with the latest version of nvda.

NVDACon Asia: Report of Day 2
Bhavya shah
Dear all,
Sunday, 10th of July, 2016 observed Day 2 of the Asian NVDA conference on its Teamtalk server as well as live RadioUdaan broadcast. Listeners and attendees got a chance to tune in to: 4 BlindHelp Project – We learnt about the way a group of youngsters from Pakistan are helping and uplifting the visually impaired community through technological empowerment. They shared how this idea formed, how they currently serve people and their ambitious goals for the future. 5 Asian Language Reading Tools & Text to Speech Support – Maheshinder Singh Khosla, an experienced ESpeak coder and speech synthesis expert talked about all the back-end processes that go into a screen reader and TTS fusion, how ESpeak works and reads out the quantity of languages it does and characters in the small size it has as well as highlighting and cogently explaining the usability of the slightly robotic text to speech by ESpeak. 6 Keynote Address – The climax of the conference was graced by Dinesh Kaushal and Manish Agarwal, two major NVDA contributors and developers, assistive technology development experts who are deeply involved in the NVDA India team. These two gentlemen described their life and journey with technology, how they came about to be as the NVDA India team, talking about the variety of features and enhancements they have garnished NVDA with. Due to an overflowing quantum of questions, this session was lengthened to accommodate as many askers as possible. There were increasing number of correspondences and messages that I was receiving on the second day, and it gladdened me to perceive the true interest among our population in this event. We had more than a thousand listeners via RadioUdaan constantly and active Teamtalk server participants increasing the value. As having been one of the primary organizers of NVDACon Asia, I learnt a lot from mistakes made and was happy to see overall positive reviews from listeners and participants during and post conference. Please expect a message from me subsequently, describing my own experience and thoughts about what took place, how we could improve, and a word for other NVDA enthusiasts. Re: The Paypal form..
Roger Stewart
I'd very much appreciate this. I just
tried to send money to my friend again this morning and I get the
same problem. Everything seems normal until after I've filled in
the amount I want to send and type in a brief message. Next thing
I tab to is a link saying please choose a payment method. It used
to bring up a screen with the choices of my bank account or my
Visa card. Now all that happens when I choose this link is Firefox
makes a familiar click and I'm right back with the amount reset to
zero and my message to my friend deleted out. I just tried this
several times this morning, and the behavior is totally
circular--that is it's just stuck in an endless loop and I never
get to chose a payment method or get to the page where it just
says send money now. I did send a message similar to this to
PayPal and will see what they may have to say about it. Something
has obviously changed on their page setup and nvda isn't catching
it for me. Thanks. Roger
