Gentlemen,
This topic is so very far from being NVDA-related, and has been virtually from the outset. It belongs either on the Chat Subgroup or somewhere else entirely. This topic is now locked. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 The color of truth is grey. ~ André Gide

Re: Operating the Python shell
David <trailerdavid@...>
Thanks.
As a matter of fact, my text book here, for learning Python, indicated the VSCode as a place to write my code. I just did not know if it was accessible. Further, the textbook suggests to install VSCode as part of a suite named Anaconda, which supposedly should bring in all the Python add-ons etc. Would you, or anyone else know, if Anaconda is worth the go? Or, should I stick with just VSCode? And where would I find the VSCode? is it one of these programs that exists in a thousands more or less original versions, all over the net? Sorry for dummy questions, but I would hate to clutter my system with tons of less useful stuff. Better to have asked ten dumb questions, and then play safe. Smiles. haha Sarah what a lovely answer!!!! You are right! Yihah!
Not to be a pain in the but, but as I tell people who ask me when my next track will be released, it will be released when it's ready and not before. So 29.2 will be released when it's ready and not before, in case ther are little bug bares that need to be squashed. Blessings Sarah Alawami, owner of TFFP. . For more info go to our website. I would try VScode on windows. You will have to install the python addons to make it work but this process is well documented if you use google. Thanks.

David <trailerdavid@...>
OK, i know this might not be the best place to ask, but hoped someone
would have enough knowledge to give me some kind of a clue. I am trying to learn some Python programming. My version is 2.7.13. Python does come with some kind of an editor, which they name Idle. I try to open some python code file in Idle, but neither NVDA, nor Jaws or Window-Eyes seem to be able to read much from the screen. And if I hit the hotkey for run, the code will be virtually run in Python shell. Trouble is, that not even here, I am able to have any of the screen readers give me much for info on what results my code generates. Question to you guys: What editor, and which test environment, does a blind user use? Must be a way of working with python, I should say. Smiles. Before anyone jumps in here, let me stress the point, I am not trying to generate any NVDA code. My learning Python at this point, is of far more general character. I want to simply learn the programming language, writing small applications or routines - for daily computing. And yes, I am an experienced programmer, coming from several other programming languages, and with close to 4 decades of runtime. Again, what I want to know, is which software or environment blind users benefits from. If you happen to have any feedback - or even some sources like links on the net - I would be glad to benefit from such as well. Or, is it that simple, I need to perform some setting to have the standard Python environment cooperate with my screen readers? Either a setting in the Python system, or maybe in the screen reader itself. quick note at last: I have tried to maximize both the Idle, and the Python Shell windows. Still gave no results, that we would name satisfactory. Thanks to all who have inputs here; and sorry to the rest of you, for cluttering the list.

Re: Reading past the visible screen on a CMD Window?
Ricardo Leonarczyk
Hi, There's another method that works for CMD and PowerShell, but not for WSL Bash , which consists in: 1. Press alt+space bar to access the shell's menu or what else people call it. 2. Find the option "edit" with the arrow keys, or with short letter "e". 3. Open the menu and find the scroll option, it also have a shortcut to access, maybe "s" (my Windows language is not English). 4. Onece you've activated the scroll, the window title will change indicating scroll mode, and you can scroll the screens with page-up and page-down. Pressing control + page up or down will make NVDA not speak the prompt first, just starts the reading from the top of that screen. Hope it helps. It is more helpful to say exactly what version of NVDA you are using, not just that it's the latest version. We have no way to be sure that you are aware of what the latest version is, so it is always best to provide the actual number. This is found in the NVDA menu, under help, then about. It would also be good to know what other applications you are running when this happens. Are you running some version of Office? Which web browsers? Does it only happen when certain websites are open? I have observed this kind of problem before, but it usually happens because very specific applications are either crashing, or are consuming most system resources. Luke

Hello,I don't think npm errors can be written to a file, as they happen after the application has been started. If I try:All output happens after the application has started. In shells (DOS, Linux, whatever), generally output capture through redirection happens before the application is started, as the redirection controls which file descriptors are handed to the application. So the application gets one file to send its standard output to, another to send its standard error to, and another to read its standard input from. The shell provides those file descriptors, and they can point to anything--from the actual console, to a file on disk, or to a named pipe that is actually sending/receiving to/from another program. The application generally doesn't care what they are--they are all files as far as it's concerned, although some applications can behave differently depending on the nature of the file or device (ls, for example, behaves differently if its outputting to a console, than it does if its outputting to anything else), though that may be a Unix only thing. > npm start > filename.txt As Tony pointed out, you aren't capturing STDERR. One of these should work: mvn --maven --options > my_error_file.txt 2>&1 mvn --Maven --options 2>&1 | less The second one will pipe everything through the less pager instead of sending it to a file. You can then read the screen normally with NVDA, pressing space for next page, enter for single line advance, q to quit, b to go back up, etc. If you don't like having to press Q at the end to get out, substitute "more" for "less" on that last one. I still don't know of any method to scroll up through command windows in an NVDA accessible way. I think some work may be in progress in core for this, but it is not complete, and I may be incorrect about the end result. Search on github for what @codeofdust has been working on. Luke

Hi again
When you alt/tab does it say the name of the app that is in focus? if you have a few windows open if i do that it will say the name then i can use the alt key + f4 key to close each window then shut down the computer.
Down on your running application down on the task bar does it say what each one is like internet explorer etc or does it just say unknown?
Along with unknown or pane in all of your browsers or is it speaking in the web pages?
Depending what is mentioned is wheather you need to run the Run COM Registration Fixing tool... tool found under the tools menu. But do not think you have to go there.

Re: Contact
hurrikennyandopo ...
Hi
you could always Reset configuration to factory defaults in NVDA.
If you can get into the menus of NVDA by pressing the NVDA key + letter N then arr-owing down to that menu then pressing the enter key it will then put it back to when you first got it.
You will also when it has done it need to quit nvda then start it again. it will then give you the message like keyboard layout etc then after you have tabbed to the ok button then pressed the enter key it will be back to like when it was first installed.
But before you do that what else is it not doing? Is it like saying unknow or pane in all of your browsers? etc depending what it is doing could you say any other problems?

Re: Contact
Quentin Christensen
Dear Ibrahim, We've seen similar issues arise when programs have been installed or uninstalled - not every time, but occasionally. There is a feature in NVDA to attempt to repair this. If you can run NVDA, press NVDA+n, then T for Tools. Then press R for "Run COM Registration fixing tool" and press ENTER twice to run this tool. After running, and then rebooting your computer, ideally, the problem should be fixed. Please do advise how you go with this. Kind regards Quentin.
