I'm not sure just what kind of command you have in mind nor just what speech you want available and not.  There are many screen-review commands that don't use the NVDA key such as read current line.  Rather that stipulate a single key as determining when feedback is given, it might be far more useful to explain just how and in what kinds of specific cases you want feed back.  
 
I don't know if implementing your suggestions is practical but you might get better comments with more explanation. 
 
Also, you don't talk about if or when you use a magnifier.  Perhaps for some or most of your uses, a good magnifier program might meet your needs better than a screen-reader. 
 
Asking for suggestions and recommendations might yield better help with your needs.

Hi!

To toggle NVDA’s sleep mode on and off, the keystroke is NVDA+shift+s: this is better than the speech mode toggle as it only has On and Off to toggle through. I don’t know of any way to make NVDA go automatically into sleep mode in certain places, but at least you only need one keystroke to make NVDA sleep and to bring back NVDA when you need it again.

You can keep NVDA running and turn off many of the features you don't wish to hear by using the keystrokes NVDA +5, NVDA + 6 and NVDA + 7 which toggle on and off dynamic changes, and changes due to review and focus changes. Try those keystrokes and see if you get significantly less vocal feedback.

To be honest I'd shove in a borrowed full keyboard at least to start with. I've not installed win 10 forom scratch, or do you mean to updat it? I ythink at some point you have to rely on narrator for a bit, but I'd say why not install nvda on it beforehand and just not have it auto run?
At least then it will work on protected screens when windows boots up, the portable version cannot do this.

Maybe and its far from my thoughts to suggest you might have let it laps, but perhaps the card you specified is no longer valid, but it should then suggest you set up a payment method instead. I just cannot see where the problem is as it seems to be well protected against silly entries and normally suggests a course of action to you if it goes wrong
It might be something really daft like the currency is not allowed to be transferred in that country or something. Here in the UK its a bit hard to judge as everything defaults and it even gives you the exchange rate.

possible that other browsers don't display the Paypal site quite as well as
Firefox does, but I haven't investigated that.
I've filled in several forms, on different websites, where it says "invalid
entry" in some of the ttext fields, but those words disappear as soon as I
fill it whatever is necessary, so I would guess that "invalid entry" must
simply mean that you haven't yet filled in the appropriate text.

In this case there is really no involvement in a new way. the only reasons why that link ofr button to do the donation fails are.
1 the button is not in focus
2 you misstyped something, but then it normally throws you back to the offending field to try again.

I think we know now that its not paypal, its probably a browser add on which is doing this. I recall a proxy can caause this issue, and some anti virus solutions install a proxy.

Yes you find this a lot. I think its because these fields are dynamic and nvda is attempting to read them as they update. Its a bit like google instant, they should be ways to stop this from happening but you just close your ears or cut and paste email and passwrd.

I use Paypal with Firefox all the time and never have problems with it. It's
possible that other browsers don't display the Paypal site quite as well as
Firefox does, but I haven't investigated that.
I've filled in several forms, on different websites, where it says "invalid
entry" in some of the ttext fields, but those words disappear as soon as I
fill it whatever is necessary, so I would guess that "invalid entry" must
simply mean that you haven't yet filled in the appropriate text.

know I think switching browsers is a lot more convenient than having several

What add ins are in firefox?
Also of course have you tried a clean install of Firefox, as if its been updated it can end up a bit of a mess.
I'd currently not reckon you should use 48 beta or any of the 64bit builds of Firefox, all have some quirks. 46 is pretty stable, but 47 is slow on some machines.

As I say I have no issue with the form in firefox 46 with nvda, so wondered if it was a browser issue. There have been button issues with ie11 recently reported for blind use.

Sorry, no on both for now. nvda is my only screen reader. This is a strange one. A year or so back they changed their page so much that it took me a while to figure it out. However, it still seems to be the same as it has always been. Everything works until the very last continue button which would have sent the money but it just sits there.

Don't know what's going on, but I can't use Pay Pal with nvda. It
appears to be just the same as it ever was, but after I do everything
and then the very last step of continue, nothing happens at all.
There are no error messages or anything. Can anyone tell me what they
may have changed? One thing I've been noticing is that nvda will
always say "invalid entry required" when I come to an edit field
there. Maybe they have really changed things so that I really need to

got a nasty habit at least on my machines of loosing focus, a lot,

It would be nice if there was an option to turn off the kind of speech I call "automatic feedback". I don't need focus reporting, automatic active window reporting, and other such things, but I'd like to have instant spoken feedback when I invoke screenreader command involving NVDA key. It would be also nice if there was a way to set form mode as a default for web browsing.

There is a program that you can use for a clean install but you must have your serail number this can be found at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20tutorials%20for%20other%20programs.html

It is called Windows PE and on that page is a link to the website of where you can get it from. I have not used it but others have.


The second question is under the keyboard settings on your pc there are 3 check boxs one for the insert key one for the extended insert key and the last for the capslock key. Check the last one and you should be able to use the capslock key. If you need to use the capslock key like normal you have to hit it 2 times until you hear it go on and 2 times to make it go off.


On my pc here i have all 3 checked and i can use any combo of them, but then again I have all 3 keys.


Your computer might also have a extended insert key or a insert key there some where it might be a good idea for some one to have a look just in case there is.

Try to have NVDA speak characters. The last time I used NVDA in the win10 mail app, I did not have this trouble. I will check it out later and let you know what I find and I will see how to fix the problem.

If I hit CTRL plus N for a new message or CTRL plus R to reply to a message in the Windows 10 Mail app, NVDA says “Message edit read only” and then nothing, whether I arrow back to correct something or just keep typing. Review mode does not work either.
