Hi friends:  If your dropbox suddenly looks weird. Here’s how to fix it if you need to

_________________________________________________________________

Howdy All,

I just ran into an issue with Dropbox where it wouldn't let me acces my files.  Well, it turned out that it wanted to update and after downloading the

installer and reinstalling Dropbox navigating the folders flat out sucked, so here's how to change the necessary setting for easier navigation.

1. Open Dropbox from the system tray, tab to, Access and Manage your Dropbox settings button, and press enter.

2. Now tab to, Preferences, and press enter.

3. On the General tab, tab to the, Open folders in Dropbox combobox, open this combobox and choose the, Explorer, option.  With Jaws you can open this

combobox with Alt + down arrow and then up arrow to the Explorer option and press enter to close the combobox.  Now tab to, Okay, and press enter to save

and close preferences.

Note:  This can act a little tricky so it might take a couple of attempts to get the Explorer settings change to stick.

If you have a shortcut key that opens Dropbox options, after you openDropbox up arrow to, Preferences, press enter and follow step 3 from above.

Take care.

Hi,
Unless I'm mistaken, Skype 8.49 does not support XP.

Hey all. I think the subject about covers it. If I open Skype, this is
the desktop version or whatever they're calling it, under NVDA 2019.2
Beta 3, and try to arrow around, nothing happens. It works fine under NVDA 2019.1.1.
What should happen is that it moves and reads a line, e.g. "menu
button submenu more options", "search for people groups and messages",
"use dial pad", and so on, that's arrowing down from the top.
Tabbing between things works, but not the arrows, at least for me. I
figured I'd mention it in case anybody knows of a fix, or at least to
find out if it's a known issue, and if not, to make people aware of it.

Not sure, but the brltty narator uses is probably the same version everyone else uses.

Does anyone know if there's a way to just get NVDA to use that Brltty? Do you think I'll mess something up if I do install another BRLTTY for NVDA and where's the latest version compiled for Windows 10?
And lastly, has anyone had success reading BRF files (already translated embosser-ready files) using NVDA with Braille? The last time I tried, it seemed like NVDA or maybe Brltty was inserting a lot of extra clutter even if I set my preferences to not use any contracted Braille.

Re: Using tdropbox on W10?

Hi, I'm using the latest version of NVDA, and no dropbox addon.

When I signed in to my db account on my pc, I got the online recommended option button for syncing.

I didn't see another button, but i felt like there was one called local.

I have all my dropbox folder on another drive, there's 123 gigs of stuff in there, and I didn't want it moving my local files from the drive, then trying to redownload them again.

Re: Brltty, anything new

I don't know about BRLTTY for NVDA or narrator, because I've only ever used it on Linux. Hower, I do know that you can use the braille extender add-on to read .brf files. I just open them in wordpad or notepad and put it in .brf mode and that works beautifully. You don't even need to twiddle your braille settings in NVDA to do this. It's just a quick toggle while you're in the .brf file. Maybe the braille extender add-on will help you. I'm not sure what braille display you have, but I might be able to help with BRLTTY. I've just never used it under Windows because the Brailliant BI 40 works great with NVDA and HumanWare's drivers.

what is stopping the nvda synth

That is a glaring issue.

I do have and use the code factory sapi synth myself for both eloquence but mostly vocaliser for games mostly.

Espeak robotic and crappy as it is is quite good performance wize for general usage as I don't read long things with it.

Its probably helped that I am used to the keynote gold synth.

However, even with that out the way, yeah thats a problem.

Code factory is the only package that has the voices in 1 package, just about every other synth requires you to buy each voice sepritely that means I can't buy all the voices I would usually do.

It is a shame that this stuff can't run with out admin rights, after all addons should be portable.

I don't as a rule use third party stuff on any business system bar my own workstation but still it is a problem.

Then again code factory have never updated their stuff as such ever or as far as I know.

This does bring up things more than ever though.

I've kept pushing this, but nvaccess or someone in the community need to revive and restart especially with the move to py3, a move away from these comercial addons.

Jaws and windoweyes used eloquence but dolphin used its own synth orpheus exclusively for ages so it can be done.

I have changed the subject to stop hijacking.

I will simply end with the following sentences.

I don't expect a responce, but I'd appreciate people, admins, devs and authors to really think about this before responding.

What is stopping the nvda users in general in having our own synthesiser?

More to the point, why did we even stop the synthesiser, and don't give me the servey bull that I know was about, people liked espeak at the time or something.

We really need our own synth now especially with the move to python3, and the fact unless anyone has any answer on this if the authors of synths do not update well.

Compaired to  even acapella, the sapi voices for eloquence and vocaliser are quite cheap for what they are.

With all we know now what would it take to restart it again.

I am not suggesting edward or our older synths, but what would it take to have our own synths.

Of course, the other question is what other synths are compatible with the new nvda, and what packs can one buy for that.

focus loss with file explorer in windows 8.1 with NVDA

Mary Otten

I am writing this for a friend in the UK who is not on this list. She is using GoldWave to do sound editing, and she does this using NVDA and the goldwave add on. With GoldWave open, if she opens a file explorer window and tries to arrow down in the files list, NVDA is silent. If she alt tabs away and then back to Explorer, NVDA speaks the name of the file she has landed on, but subsequent arrowing around yields 0 speech. This is 100% repeatable for her. Any ideas what might be going on?
