Re: code factory voices addon
molly the blind tech lover
Hi ☺ In my opinion I don’t want the extra cost of purchasing a screen reader. Although blindness agencies maybe able help you obtain Jaws, it really depends on the situation. I love that NVDA is free and open source. It is nice, too, that Freedom Scientific is offering annual subscriptions for those that want that option. You really get the best of both worlds here. On one hand you have the option of obtaining a wonderful free and open source screen reader. On the other hand, you have the option of paying for a yearly subscription for Jaws if you wish to do so.

Hello Josh, Yes, you can, but only if you are in the USA. We here in Bulgaria still have to pay over $1000 for JAWS plus $150 per each yearly SMA upgrade, if I'm not mistaking. And those high prices is one of the reasons for many JAWS users here in Bulgaria to switch to NVDA (I've done that switch to NVDA almost a decade ago). And no - we don't get the possibility to obtain JAWS via some sort of government funding for home use, unfortunately. Only some users are lucky enough to get it for their job and when they leave that respective job, JAWS remains property of the employer and not the user. Yes - stupid - I know, but that is how it is. And Freedom Scientific/Vispero know that in countries like Bulgaria purchases of JAWS are very low due to the high prices and still refuse to provide the annual subscription variant to such countries. Stupid - isn't it (?). Because it is better to get $100 per year for each sold JAWS license, than to get $0 from each not sold permanent license (because almost nobody here in Bulgaria can afford such a $1000 license). And I'll stop here with my rant. I just wanted such things to be clear, so people don't get confused from statements like yours Josh that anybody can get a cheap JAWS license. ______ На 3.8.2019 г. в 17:20, Josh Kennedy написа:

Re: google suite
Jonathan COHN
I have heard of folks using NVDA and google docs, I am not sure about the spread sheet program. Except for the fact that Macintosh VoiceOver sometimes requires interact/stop interact in order to get to all web content, I can generally do Google things as well on the Macintosh with VoiceOver as I do on NVDA. That being said the productivity ssuite provided by Apple is much easier to use than working with an online application. I suggest you continue this conversation at macvisionaries@... or another Blind related Apple group. Jonathan

Hi List: Arlene here. I have a friend who uses a Mac computer. She was placed with someone to create her own business. This person does not know how to help her. He wanted her to use Google suite. Now with NVDA or any screen reader can you use google suite? If so, how accessible is it? Thanks and have a good day.

What happens if you try to fire up NVDA from its native folder under Program Files (x86)?
If it works from there, then this is a problem with the shortcut, which needs to be re-created. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1903, Build 18362 The color of truth is grey. ~ André Gide

Hello guys!
My friend has a very strange problem with NVDA: Pressing ctrl + alt + n or clicking on the desktop shortcut displays the following error message: the specified program requires a newer version of windows NVDA has already been reinstalled, all program files and settings deleted in% appdata% but nothing has changed. It is running Windows 10, I don't know exactly, but at least it's October 2018 and NVDA 2019.1.1. What can be done?

By the way, the situation is not improved by trying to use object navigation. If anything, I find the result more confusing.

Re: A Problem With NVDA and Firefox Add Ons Manager
Ron,
Has anyone else noticed this and is there a work around of any kind?Yes to both questions :) What you'll want to do is to locate where NVDA says "graphic". Just below this graphic element will be the name of the add-on. It's the same for all of your add-ons. When you've found the add-on's name, down arrow until you find a button. Press it and the option to deactivate or remove should appear right away. Hth Cheers, Marcio AKA Starboy Sent from a galaxy far, far away. --Are you a Thunderbird user? Re: A Problem With NVDA and Firefox Add Ons Manager
Ron,
You're right that things have gotten peculiar, to say the least, in the Add-Ons manager, but you can still access things if you have a bit of "inside info." After I open the Add-Ons Manager: 1. Make sure you're on the Extensions control in the main control bar. If not then up/down arrow until it's selected and activated. 2. Hit TAB five times. Oddly enough, in my case, when I land on the Add-Ons list the first word out of NVDA's mouth is "Chrome." Why on earth that would be I have no idea. You can silence NVDA at any point after you know that you're on the list. If you let NVDA keep speaking it mentions heading level 2. 3. At this juncture hitting TAB takes you into the Add-Ons list. What's interesting is that the Add-On name itself is not what's announced, but the descriptive text for that Add-On. Since this often includes the name of the Add-On, it tends to be pretty clear, but not always. For instance, my DuckDuckGo add-on does not include that in its descriptive text, but instead they describe it starting with the word "Privacy." After the descriptive text if you TAB once you will land on what NVDA announces simply as button. If you activate that button a dropdown menu appears that you can down arrow through that includes Disable, Remove, Report and More Options. 4. Hitting TAB without activating the button takes you to your next add-on's descriptive text and another TAB to that add-on's "menu control button." Lather, rinse, repeat. I hope the above is enough to allow you to get in and remove or disable what you want to. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1903, Build 18362 The color of truth is grey. ~ André Gide

Re: code factory voices addon
Josh Kennedy
You are not required to purchase both sapi5 and the addon for $184. You can just buy the sapi5 voice and exclusively use that one. Or you can just buy the addon and just use that one. So, why did I personally decide to spend $184 on both the sapi5 and the addon you may ask? I spent the $184 so the sapi5 voices could stay permanently on my computer, but if I ever want to take NVDA with me to someone else's computer I can choose to do that just by making a portable copy of NVDA and putting it onto a flash drive with the codeFactory addon, while leaving my sapi5 voices behind. It is far easier to quickly run and register an addon rather than installing and uninstalling sapi5 voices on each computer I may go to. so the sapi5 voices remain stationary on my machine and my machine only. while the addon can come with me on a flash drive if I wish, use it on another machine then deactivate its license when I am done using it, like at a library.

A Problem With NVDA and Firefox Add Ons Manager
Ron Canazzi
Hi Group,
I haven't checked my Firefox add ons manager in quite a while. When I inadvertently downloaded and installed an add on from the NFL schedule site and tried uninstalling it, I have found that the formerly accessible add ons manager is now in some sort of weird interface where you cannot highlight options to disable or uninstall the add on or extension. Has anyone else noticed this and is there a work around of any kind? I am using Firefox latest build and NVDA 2019.1.1 -- They Ask Me If I'm Happy; I say Yes. They ask: "How Happy are You?" I Say: "I'm as happy as a stow away chimpanzee on a banana boat!"
