Hi Josh.

Well that was pretty fast! All 3 licenses arrived this morning united
states eastern standard time. So now I have registered legal copies of
sapi5 eloquence, sapi5 vocalizer, and a license for the eloquence
vocalizer NVDA addon and everything is working good. I set my default
voice to eloquence. And my pluggable USB Bluetooth combo keyboard also
shipped. Maybe it will be better than the cheap keyboard you get with
this $110 windows 10 home 32 bit tablet. Well it is a $110 tablet so
you can't expect much at that price point. But then I'll have a
Bluetooth USB keyboard to use with the tablet, android phone, and iPod
touch and iPad when I get those. I found out I can save $50 on iPads
if I get them off amazon or Walmart.
It sounds like you're really in business. Have you given that new blue tooth keyboard a workout with your tablet yet?

OK, I forgot to mention that this difficulty is happening using NVDA 2019.1.1 with Firefox latest build on Windows 10 64 bit and 1903 version.

Re: code factory voices addon

Josh Kennedy

hi orlando, yes that is correct. sapi5 vocalizer works with NVDA. sapi5 eloquence also works with NVDA. the codeFactory NVDA vocalizer eloquence combo addon also of course works with NVDA. If you don't plan on moving frequently to different computers and taking NVDA with you on a flash drive, then I would just get the sapi5 vocalizer and sapi5 eloquence or whichever one you prefer. But it really is up to you and how much money you want to spend. You could just choose to spend $69 on the addon and just have the voices tied into NVDA. It is up to you.

Re: DECTalk speech

Josh Kennedy

You could also do a google search for the flameOfHope website and the word decTalk. But due to the fact that the addons for decTalk floating around out there are kind of buggy as far as crashing and switching decTalk voices well I would really love to buy a decTalk 4.3 sapi5 and a decTalk 4.3 NVDA addon from codeFactory that is stable and works good.

Re: DECTalk speech

Josh Kennedy

You have to email Roger dudly. He is the owner of speech-fx-inc owners of decTalk. Maybe they can partner with codeFactory and offer a couple versions of the older software decTalk for us to purchase.

NVDA and Paragraph Settings in MS Word, Jarte too?

David Russell <david.sonofhashem@...>

Hello Group Members,

I am using the ribbon to establish my paragraph and font settings in
MS Word, linespacing also.
I use alt-o when in the document to open the ribbon and tab through
paragraph settings, selectin 0.5 inches left, 1 inch right.

When reading my document, is it automatic that after so many
sentences, I press enter, will a new paragraph begin at 0.5 inches?
NVDA does not always indicate the indent.

Is there a word or sentence minimum that determines if a block of text
is a paragraph?

How do I carry these paragraph settings over to Jarte?

Thanks for your input, much appreciated!

Thanks for your reply.  TTS won't work for me unfortunately, I use a Braille display (my hearing doesn't allow me to follow using the speech synthesizer) so that reading message by message, as I wish, is a requirement.  But even with A TTS I guess you have some problems, sometimes you are typing and your recipient messages yor, the message gets interrupted because of your keyboard.  Or so I would think anyway!

I didn't know an issue had been opened (and seemingly fixed) regarding this problem.  I actually opened a new issue to report as accurately as possible the issue I'm facing.  We'll see.  As far as I know, there is some kind of accessibility improvement in the contact list (at least, there's a plugin that seems to be dedicated to accessibility in the contact list).  Don't know why, the contact list seemed fine to me, but perhaps I have selected this accessible plugin anyway.

We'll see what happens next!  Thanks for your message,

Mathematics in Microsoft Word

Hello!
I am writing to see if there is a way to improve the reading of
mathematics written with the Microsoft Word equation editor,
correcting some things, taking into account that even before the
support of Microsoft UI Automation for Word there was almost no
support for this function.
I offer money for this purpose, perhaps developing an add-on for NVDA
or the best alternative that exists.

I remain attentive to your comments, thank you very much in advance.

Hi ☺ In my opinion I don’t want the extra cost of purchasing a screen reader. Although blindness agencies maybe able  help you obtain Jaws, it really depends on the situation.

I love that NVDA is free and open source. It is nice, too,  that Freedom Scientific is offering annual subscriptions for those that  want that option.

You really get the best of both worlds here. On one hand you have the option of obtaining a wonderful free and open source screen reader. On the other hand, you have the option of paying for a yearly subscription for Jaws if you wish to do so.

Hello Josh,

Yes, you can, but only if you are in the USA. We here in Bulgaria still have to pay over $1000 for JAWS plus $150 per each yearly SMA upgrade, if I'm not mistaking. And those high prices is one of the reasons for many JAWS users here in Bulgaria to switch to NVDA (I've done that switch to NVDA almost a decade ago). And no - we don't get the possibility to obtain JAWS via some sort of government funding for home use, unfortunately. Only some users are lucky enough to get it for their job and when they leave that respective job, JAWS remains property of the employer and not the user. Yes - stupid - I know, but that is how it is.

And Freedom Scientific/Vispero know that in countries like Bulgaria purchases of JAWS are very low due to the high prices and still refuse to provide the annual subscription variant to such countries. Stupid - isn't it (?). Because it is better to get $100 per year for each sold JAWS license, than to get $0 from each not sold permanent license (because almost nobody here in Bulgaria can afford such a $1000 license).

And I'll stop here with my rant. I just wanted such things to be clear, so people don't get confused from statements like yours Josh that anybody can get a cheap JAWS license.

Best wishes,

If I understand correctly, though, the SAPI5 Vocalizer voices won't work with NVDA unless I purchase the addon as well. If they did, I'd simply purchase the SAPI5 license and use it everywhere.

So, why did I personally
decide to spend $184 on both the sapi5 and the addon you may ask? I
spent the $184 so the sapi5 voices could stay permanently on my
computer, but if I ever want to take NVDA with me to someone else's
computer I can choose to do that just by making a portable copy of
NVDA and putting it onto a flash drive with the codeFactory addon,
while leaving my sapi5 voices behind. It is far easier to quickly run
and register an addon rather than installing and uninstalling sapi5
voices on each computer I may go to. so the sapi5Â voices remain
stationary on my machine and my machine only. while the addon can come
with me on a flash drive if I wish, use it on another machine then
deactivate its license when I am done using it, like at a library.
I think I understand now. Are you saying that the SAPI5 voices will work with NVDA? Are you saying that thee NVDA addon only obviates the need to install each SAPI5 voice?

Yes, I'd be very interested in finding out if DecTalk can be used with nvda and the new Python version coming soon. I too find these kind of synths far superior to the natural sounding ones especially for reading fast. The natural sounding ones are great for casual novel reading but they just don't work well if sped up much.

What happens if you try to fire up NVDA from its native folder under Program Files (x86)?

If it works from there, then this is a problem with the shortcut, which needs to be re-created.
