Re: DECTalk speech

NVDA recognizes SAPI 5 voices.  In the synthesizer menu, there is an item that says something like Microsoft SAPI 5.  People are using all sorts of SAPI 5 voices and some people are using old SAPI 4 voices with NVDA.

I'm not sure what DecTalk version you are referring to.  A Number of years ago, I tried one that is not at all like the DecTalk people are used to.

There is already a SAPI5 version of Dectalk that doesn't crash and
sounds very similar to the original. But, as with all SAPI voices,
NVDA doesn't recognize it.Orlando Enrique Fiol

Re: NVDA and Paragraph Settings in MS Word, Jarte too?

Quentin Christensen

Hi David,

A paragraph in Word is any piece of text which ends with a hard return - as in, you type something, press ENTER, that's a paragraph.  It doesn't matter if it is a word, or a thousand words (probably best to aim for somewhere in between).  As you type words with just space in between, Word will move across the line, then "wrap" to the next line once you reach a word which would go over the right margin.  Unfortunately since most fonts generally used are variable-width fonts, I can't even tell you the limit is X characters, since MMM is a lot wider than III unless you use a fixed-width font (which is generally considered not as readable visually).

Note that if, like me, you are in the habit of pressing ENTER twice to end a paragraph and start a new one, Word will consider that TWO paragraphs - the blank line in the middle, which ends with a hard enter, is also considered a paragraph.  Word prefers that you have your text setup to add space after paragraph (in the paragraph dialog).  The default on my copy of Word is 8pt.

BTW, you mentioned using ALT+O to get to the paragraph settings in the ribbon in Word?  Word tells me alt+o is the start of a sequence from an earlier version of Word.  The paragraph settings are on the home ribbon which is alt+h.  You could tab from there, or you could press control+right arrow to jump from the clipboard section (the first section in the home ribbon) to font, then again to paragraph and then tab.  At least that's how it works on my Office 365.

Kind regards

Quentin.

NVDA does not always indicate the indent.

Is there a word or sentence minimum that determines if a block of text
is a paragraph?

How do I carry these paragraph settings over to Jarte?

Thanks for your input, much appreciated!

Re: When pointing to a line with the mouse, NVDA will stop reading at a link in the text. How overcome this?

Quentin Christensen

Good morning,

Thank you for your kind words.  Re using the mouse hover to read text, particularly on the web, there are a couple of bugs we are aware of which cause issues - reading paragraphs of text with links being one of the main ones.  We have an open issue on it here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/3590  But unfortunately, I don't have an update on it at this time I'm afraid.

Kind regards

Quentin.

But unfortunately, if there is a link in that line or paragraph, NVDA just stops at that point in the text. Very problematic..
How do  I overcome this so that NVDA just keeps reading the paragraph or line I am pointing at with my mouse whether there is a link  integrated into the text or not?
Thank you so much! NVDA is such a blessing to my life and so many others I know.

Hi Mattias,

It might have been a temporary glitch.  Are you updating from an earlier alpha build and getting an error?  If so, what is the error message (if it is still happening)?

If you could let me know that, I can look into it, and you can also try downloading from the snapshots page at: https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/snapshots/

Kind regards

Re: code factory voices addon

Orlando Enrique Fiol

Hi Josh.

yes that is correct. sapi5 vocalizer works with NVDA.
sapi5 eloquence also works with NVDA. the codeFactory NVDA vocalizer
eloquence combo addon also of course works with NVDA.
I just tried installing one of the SAPI5 Vocalizer voices in the trial version. Not only did NVDA not see the voice, it didn't even show me any SAPI5 voices.

If you don't plan on moving frequently to different computers and
taking NVDA with
you on a flash drive, then I would just get the sapi5 vocalizer and
sapi5 eloquence or whichever one you prefer. But it really is up to
you and how much money you want to spend. You could just choose to
spend $69 on the addon and just have the voices tied into NVDA. It is
up to you.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I'd rather not have the voices tied to NVDA, since I want to use them with Window-eyes and Kurzweil 1000. But NVDA doesn't seem to recognize them without the addon.

Re: CodeFactory eloquence and vocalizer licenses

Orlando Enrique Fiol

Hi Josh.

Well that was pretty fast! All 3 licenses arrived this morning united
states eastern standard time. So now I have registered legal copies of
sapi5 eloquence, sapi5 vocalizer, and a license for the eloquence
vocalizer NVDA addon and everything is working good. I set my default
voice to eloquence. And my pluggable USB Bluetooth combo keyboard also
shipped. Maybe it will be better than the cheap keyboard you get with
this $110 windows 10 home 32 bit tablet. Well it is a $110 tablet so
you can't expect much at that price point. But then I'll have a
Bluetooth USB keyboard to use with the tablet, android phone, and iPod
touch and iPad when I get those. I found out I can save $50 on iPads
if I get them off amazon or Walmart.
It sounds like you're really in business. Have you given that new blue tooth keyboard a workout with your tablet yet?
