Re: Station Playlist AddOn Question

Hi,

I think he meant configuring that option, which can be done from encoders window only as this is specific to encoders. The F11 command will not let you switch to Studio from anywhere – it is a toggle command to tell NVDA to switch to Studio when the selected encoder connects.

Cheers,

Joseph

No. You can be anywhere doing anything and when you are connected, it will switch to the SPL window if you have that function on.

Hi,

Due to the fact that in 2019.3 python3 will be used, I am thinking about, before I update to 2019.3, right beforehand, that I will first deactivate my CodeFactory NVDA addon license, and then update, and then if it still shows up, I will re-activate the license. I’m worried that the update may remove an activation of my license for the CodeFactory eloquence vocalizer addon, or may cause it to stop working completely. In that case it would be good just to deactivate it, and switch to sapi5 eloquence until the addon is updated.

I was told by support they are in contact with NVDA dev to transition to python 3.

But no deadlines were given.

It seems that Acapela TTS Voices for NVDA hasn’t been updated for one year or so. Is there some hiyatus or has been the development stopped or something? I’m kinda woried that happens, Since that addon doesn’t support Python 3 at the momento.

Re: how to build add-ons for NVDA

Scott,

Do you have any background in programming in any language?   NVDA and its add-ons are written in Python, but a programmer can pick up on new programming languages reasonably easily.   Python is not impossible to learn by any means, but learning to program is not a trivial task and requires significant commitment to see it through.

It also sounds like you're describing something that would interface with Blackboard, Moodle, or similar.   If so, those are entirely accessible via normal web browsing methods.

I don't believe the ad-ons are any different on my laptop than my desktop.

I also have a home laptop with the latest NVDA, WIndows 10, and Outlook,
which does not have this problem. This leads me to believe it must have to
do with the specific computer, though I can't imagine what the problem is.

Add-on Updater 19.08 released, first of two mandatory updates for everyone #addonrelease

Hi everyone,

Add-on Updater 19.08 is now available. This is the first of two mandatory updates for anyone using Add-on Updater.

Specifically:

  • Version 19.08 removes an experimental feature to present a toast message on Windows 10 when new add-on updates become available. Although this is useful, it was found that it isn’t ready for primetime yet (thanks for community feedback). Because this experiment was controlled by a setting, version 19.08 removes this, hence this being a mandatory update.
  • Version 19.08 includes a possible fix for download time-out. Specifically, if you respond to update notification more than five minutes of it appearing, you may get an error in regards to update download. This has been corrected, along with a new way of accessing the add-ons website to retrieve update status information for various add-ons.

The following describes Add-on Updater releases for the next few weeks:

  • 19.08 (released today): supports NVDA 2019.1, first mandatory update.
  • 19.08.1: to be released shortly after NVDA 2019.2 is released. The only change will be minimum NVDA version supported – 2019.2. This is not a mandatory update.
  • 19.09 (anniversary update): to be released later in August (or by early September at the latest), second mandatory update for everyone and requiring NVDA 2019.2 or later. By then, if the time-out bug is resolved, it’ll become a permanent feature of this add-on.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: CodeFactory vocalizer licenses

Orlando Enrique Fiol

Hi all,
I obtained my Vocalizer SAPI5 license and installed all the voices last night. NVDA sees them all, although they're not sorted in any discernable order. I was excited when II opened the Vocalizer control panel and encountered a check box for enabling a pronunciation dictionary in the options. One can even import something called a CFD file, which is presumably a pronunciation dictionary. However, since there is no documentation about how to create one and no sample CFD files in the program, I am temporarily stumped. I even created one dictionary entry with the Code Factory UI in order to see if a file would get created. Itt didn't. That was one of my main motivations for purchasing the SAPI5 license rather than the NVDA addon; I figured that I'd make one pronunciation dictionary that would be processed by the Vocalizer engine regardless of screen reader. That is proving to be a bust.
Also, these SAPI5 voices make JAWS crash every few minutes. The responsiveness is also painfully slow. All in all, I would probably revoke my license if I could get a refund.

Re: Creating First Line Indent with NVDA

I can only answer your second question, and the most simple and concise answer is "consistency."

Using either some set number of spaces or even a tab stop can result in the initial indent being different from paragraph to paragraph.   All it takes is miscounting your spaces or someone having put a section break in where they reset tab stops, and you can get wildly different visual presentations for beginning of paragraph indents.

Using the paragraph controls makes everything consistent without the end user having to do anything other than the initial setup in the document template (which I'd hope would be provided in dotx format if there's a format you're expected to follow).

In the final analysis, for business or anything other than personal purposes, consistent formatting is one of the main reasons to use a word processor or desktop publishing software.   Using the tools that ensure this that are part of those programs is the best, and easiest, way of getting what you want each and every time without the user having to think about it.

Creating First Line Indent with NVDA

David Russell <david.sonofhashem@...>

Hello Group,
I am raising the issue of first line indents one more time, but more precise.
This might be for the more technical minded among us. Two questions below.

(1) If setting up paragraph parameters in the ribbon with either
alt+h or alt+o, in MS Word, does the left and right margin need to
exceed a certain parameter in order for NVDA to report each occurrence
first line indent? At 0.5 inch left, and 1 inch right, NVDA reports
first line indent on occasion in my case.

(2) What would be the reason for a sighted MS Word reviewer to
discourage a screen reader user from using the space bar, or tab key
to create first line indents? I have three such friends who encourage
setting this up by the ribbon not doing manually.

Thanks for your help!

I'd like to try using it for awhile.

I just now saw this, this is seriously great work. I look forward to testing it out.

I tried restarting without ad-ons, which also did nothing to improve the situation.

Re: Outlook Bug When Scrolling Through Messages

I did check, and they are the same. How do I send a log?

Re: Outlook Bug When Scrolling Through Messages

Maybe double check that the addons are all up to date on the misbehaving computer, just in case (might be same addons but an older version).  If you could send me a log, I can have a look and see if anything pops out.

Quentin.
