There are a couple of methods.  The ones I usually use are:

If you type "name", then press TAB, NVDA will announce something like "3.17 centimetres" (The exact value will depend on your tab and measurement settings, eg it will likely be in inches in the US).  When you move to the next line and type "address" and then press TAB, you can check whether NVDA reports the same number.  If the number is smaller, press TAB again.  If the number is larger, move back to the first line and add another TAB after the first.

That way works for a couple of lines, but relies on you checking each line and can get messy.  The other way, is to create a table, if you make it two columns and one or more rows, put the "name", "address" etc in the left column, and fill in the details in the right column.  If you don't want the lines shown you can:
1. Select the table with alt, j, l, k, t
2. set all borders to none with alt, h, b, n

You can also set the table to autofit the contents, so the left column will only be as wide as the widest line:
To autofit contents, press alt, j, l, f, c.

If you want to right align the left column (so the text in the two columns is visually near each other), You can select the column with alt, j, l, k, c, then press CONTROL+R to right align.

Most, if not all of that is in the Microsoft Word with NVDA training module, so if you'd like to learn more about using Word, you might be interested in that book, which is available for $30 Australian, from https://www.nvaccess.org/product/microsoft-word-training-for-nvda-ebook/

Re: NVDA and adjusting spacing between text in word

Luke Davis

I will just add two things to Quentin's excellent post.

I always do this sort of thing with a boarderless table.
If I want the colons to be aligned with each other, I create three columns, with the middle one being just for the colons.

One other thing I used to do when I had a lot of name: value stuff like this, was to write it in text without worrying about alignment, select it all, and then do a convert text to table with colon or semi-colon or whatever I used, as the separator. That left me without the problem of figuring out how many rows I needed ahead of time, or having to expand the table later.
That will delete the colons, so if I really wanted them, I would include them, but use another character as delimiter.
I have not tried this in word (I used to use Open Office), but I'm sure Word can do it.

The console when I used it last, did not automatically read out the output. I even had issues with using the NVDA object Nav commands. So is there anything special I should be doing here to get the output to read or even find it?

Do I need to import any of the modules or just issue the relevant example code which was in the dev docs in section 3.9 which got the parent and child window? As what I am trying to is fairly simple and I don’t want to have to learn NVDA’s environment as of yet. As I am troubleshooting a issue between two screen readers for windows.

Re: 19.03 windows update and launching NVDA automatically after logging in

Do you have NVDA set to run on secure screens? If so, there is a known bug that may be fixed next year some time, whereby whatever screen reader runs on the logon screen, will also run in all user accounts, whether you want it or not.
This is a Microsoft thing, and while we could probably develop an NVDA specific workaround, it would be a major cluge.

If that is your issue, you can find more information and chime in, on:

Bug while updating to 2019.2rc2

Hi all

When updating to NVDA 2019.2rc2 via the check for update option, NVDA usually says: collapse, expanded during download process, although I didn't touch the keyboard at that time. Not sure it has been fixed in 2019.2rc2 so I report it here.
