PDF and NVDA problem

Mohd. Ahtesham Shaikh

 Hi friends
I am not able to view the PDF pages while using NVDA
While pressing control page down I am not taking to the subsequent pages on the screen
Only the first and the second page is visible  remaining pages are hidden
I need this because I am partially sighted and would like to see the page and zoom it also
The pages can be scrolled and viewed only when NVDA  is turned off

Re: Outlook Bug When Scrolling Through Messages

No, I don't think Avast has ever been on the computer. Also, Outlook does not display the "waiting for Outlook" dialogue, nor does it freeze. It just doesn't read in the message list.

I spoke with the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk yesterday. While overall they were extremely unhelpful, we did figure out that precisely the same issue occurs when using Outlook with Narrator on that particular computer. This leads me to believe it is some setting in Outlook or on the computer that is causing the issue, rather than something in NVDA.

I think we've looked at most of the other issues, but have you ever had Avast on the computer in question?

NVDA 2019.2 RC 1 now available!

Re: unlabeled buttons

Ralf Kefferpuetz

Window-eyes had a lot of features missing in NVDA. It is all about setting priorities in developing NVDA. The fact that the relabelling feature isn’t currently present in NVDA doesn’t mean that it might be in the future. Raise an issue for that and show the developers that this is a missed feature, or give your comments to the already existing issue on github.

Cheers,

  Ralf

Re: NVDA and the AutoComplete List in Outlook 2016

Gene

Windows Live Mail has a feature that does about the same thing as the autocomplete list and is completely accessible.  It allows you to search for a contact while you are composing a message and then place the address in the two line.  It is a dialog.  You can type any part of the name or address and it will search for it.  John will find all Johns and show them in a list.  Smith will show all Smiths.  You can type anything anywhere in the name and address and it will show all instances.

I would think that Word, a more complex program and one you pay for, would also have this feature.  I consider that it renders the autocomplete list unnecessary and redundant.  it may take an extra two keystrokes, roughly, to open the dialog but what does that very slight increase in keystrokes matter?

In that issue I linked to, there definitely was an issue reading any of the auto complete list in Outlook 2016.  I don't have 2016, but my testing in Outlook 365 indicates that the auto complete list does now work, with the caveat that it doesn't read fully the first time around.

The issue will likely be, whether Microsoft will be willing to fix the autocomplete list for 2016, or whether they will say that they've fixed it as it works in Office 365.

Using NVDA 2019.2rc2 and Office 365 (16.0.11901.20170), I found:

- When you start typing a name, it doesn't autocomplete however list of suggestions does show below.  Press the down arrow to select a name from the list, or tab to select the first item from the list and add it to the current field.

- The first time I start typing a name in a message, the list appears but nothing is read until I down arrow through the list.  If there is more than one item in the list, NVDA reads it.  If there is only one item, the focus doesn't move, so NVDA doesn't read.

- After the first time, NVDA reads the first suggestion as soon as the list appears.

We do have an issue for this here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/8502  I just added a comment, but if anyone has any extra information, please feel free to comment on that issue.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Looks like the default key to go to next sentence for the sentence nav addon is conflicting and this is why I was not able to split on those buttons in the suggestion list

They use alt down and up arrows for sentence navigation.

I love my addons but I am running out of ot keys.

:))

Why MS decided to hide those buttons when ignore etc. are still around is beyond me.

Ok, looks like when you press F7 you now get a summary of how many spelling and grammatical errors there are and you can press ENTER to go to the first one.  Either an extra step or a useful bit of information, depending on how you look at things.

When you are presented with a spelling error, press tab or down arrow to the first suggestion then either tab or arrow through the list (or stay on the first one if it's what you want).  Once you've found the one you want, press ENTER to change this occurrence, or press alt+down arrow to open a drop-down list where you can choose "Read aloud" (L), "Spell Out" (no quick letter), "Change all" (A) or "Add to Autocorrect" (R).

Annoyingly, from the suggested change, you can't press alt+A to change all, you do have to open the drop-down list and then press A or select that option.

to be any way of activating them.

Very odd since the buttons for ignore and ignore all are all present.

Currently using NVDA 19.2 rc2

Any tricks?

Quentin.

Re: spell checking in word desktop in office 365

Looks like Microsoft have been playing with it again!

Annoyingly, from the suggested change, you can't press alt+A to change all, you do have to open the drop-down list and then press A or select that option.

thanks just read and I see it goes all the way back to 2012 and it is more of an object labeller rather than graphics labeller. anyway it seems a long time and I don't code but I hope someone can find a way thanks.

I agree as well there are times I do use a graphic's labeler but it is on my talk bac screen reader on my android phone.
As mentioned the closest is the golden cursor it will let the person make a label if the item is unlabled sight required of course but then when you go into the program where you have done it you then use the list you can pull up for that program chose the one you want and it moves the mouse to that position and says what it is.
I guess also people can leave comments on the ticket.

I do remember Window eyes did have one I seem to remember you did need some sighted help to label the button or what ever it might be but once done it worked lovely, just a shame Nvda has not got one yet.

You won't find any because there is not a single .CFD file included in the Vocalizer package. I suspect that importing the .cfd dictionary files renders them into proprietary binary code. So, the .cfd files are just an end user bridge.

NVDA behaves slightly differently from Jaws.

As you type cursor up and down to hear suggestions for auto completion and then press enter to select which option you want.
