NVDA and audio games
Chris Shook
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone that plays audio games with NVDA could contact me privately please. Preferably someone that is familiar with the game Manamon. Thanks Chris

Re: NVDA and the AutoComplete List in Outlook 2016
Abbie Taylor <abbietaylor945@...>
Meanwhile, there's a work-around. It requires a few more keystrokes, but it works. Instead of trying to use the auto-complete feature in any of the fields, use the To, Cc, and Bcc buttons located above the fields. When you press any of these buttons, a dialog opens. You can then type the first few letters of the recipient's name and press Enter. A list that NVDA can read is displayed. You can arrow down and find the contact you want. Press Enter three times, and the recipient's name and/or address are placed in the appropriate field. Keystrokes access these buttons: Alt plus T for to, Alt plus C for Cc, and Alt plus B for Bcc. I hope this is clear and helpbbl.

UI Automation doesn't yet have all the features of the previous iAccessible 2 infrastructure. I know some things work better in one mode than the other, but I'm afraid I don't have a solution to give you all the functionality in the one mode.

Re: PDF and NVDA problem
Quentin Christensen
What PDF reader are you using? Most browsers will set up their own PDF reader which will often be used when activating a link to a PDF file. Adobe Reader as a standalone program often works better than these. There is an option in Adobe reader as to whether it only reads the currently visible pages, or reads all pages. Setting it to read all pages may take longer to start initially, but be more reliable at reading subsequent pages. Regards Quentin.

Ah that definitely seems to point to an issue with Outlook to affect both NVDA and narrator. Are Microsoft going to follow it up?

I find the gutenberg editor a complete mess and a waste of my time. Its quite bulky even though its supposed to be more accessible now and had so many issues during testing it was held back. For me classic editor works well enough but I am quite basic in my posts. I have people some ofthem blind that think of the block approach similar to tetris and enjoy doodling with the advanced systems. It depends how involved you want. My blog has a 0spam plugin, a php checker, a healthchecker, a twitter api, and a couple other things as well as jet pack monitering. However as I said, I have had the same simple setup for nearly 20 years now and I really can't see any reason to bother moving forward. Its not like I am left in a hole, I mean the plugins update and the wordpress version so its not like I am disadvantaging myself in the least. Its true you need to install the classical editor plugin but thats fine. The only change I have made of late is implimenting ssl into the blog. I mean it was implimented but not inforced and now it is. Bar removing outdated and broken plugins and themes I havn't bothered with many differences for the last 20 years and have gradually built myself up to a level I want. But then you can say the same thing with winamp. Its crap and in the past and some stuff doesn't play nice with it and I know I should use fubar but I don't care to and I have all the plugins I need and if it becomes to crappy or winamp6 doesn't do what it does I can use wacup which I may just do anyway at some point.

I'm in the process of doing that. I use WordPress alone, no page builder, if that is what you mean. You can use the visual editor and the text editor fine.

No, I don't think Avast has ever been on the computer. Also, Outlook does not display the "waiting for Outlook" dialogue, nor does it freeze. It just doesn't read in the message list.

I spoke with the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk yesterday. While overall they were extremely unhelpful, we did figure out that precisely the same issue occurs when using Outlook with Narrator on that particular computer. This leads me to believe it is some setting in Outlook or on the computer that is causing the issue, rather than something in NVDA.

Window-eyes had a lot of features missing in NVDA. It is all about setting priorities in developing NVDA. The fact that the relabelling feature isn’t currently present in NVDA doesn’t mean that it might be in the future. Raise an issue for that and show the developers that this is a missed feature, or give your comments to the already existing issue on github.
Cheers, Ralf

Re: NVDA and the AutoComplete List in Outlook 2016
Gene
Windows Live Mail has a feature that does about the
same thing as the autocomplete list and is completely accessible. It
allows you to search for a contact while you are composing a message and then
place the address in the two line. It is a dialog. You can type any
part of the name or address and it will search for it. John will find all
Johns and show them in a list. Smith will show all Smiths. You can
type anything anywhere in the name and address and it will show all
instances.
I would think that Word, a more complex program and
one you pay for, would also have this feature. I consider that it renders
the autocomplete list unnecessary and redundant. it may take an extra two
keystrokes, roughly, to open the dialog but what does that very slight increase
in keystrokes matter?

2016 In that issue I linked to, there definitely was an issue reading
any of the auto complete list in Outlook 2016. I don't have 2016, but my
testing in Outlook 365 indicates that the auto complete list does now work, with
the caveat that it doesn't read fully the first time around.
The issue will likely be, whether Microsoft will be willing to fix the
autocomplete list for 2016, or whether they will say that they've fixed it as it
works in Office 365. On Tue, Aug 13, 2019 at 11:18 AM Albert Ruel

Looks like the default key to go to next sentence for the
sentence nav addon is conflicting and this is why I was not able
to split on those buttons in the suggestion list They use alt down and up arrows for sentence navigation. I love my addons but I am running out of ot keys. :))
Why MS decided to hide those buttons when ignore etc. are still around is beyond me. <sigh>
