Just looking at it now, you are right, if you tab to the "pictures" button, then tab one more time, it doesn't say anything, but that's the edit field for your signature.  You can type in there but nothing is read.  By default it has "Sent from Mail for Windows 10".  What I would recommend for now, is write your signature in Word or Notepad or somewhere else, copy it, then come to this edit box, select all, and paste.

FWIW, Narrator doesn't work any better than NVDA at reading that section, so it definitely is an issue with that screen in Mail.

Hi.  I am currently commisioned to write a musical and I am using MuseScore, a free, open source project.  It is quite accessible with NVDA.  I am pasting the link to the accessibility documentation for you so you can determine for yourself if it will serve your needs:

Sibileus is a fantastic score writing app, but it does cost quite a bit.  I have tried it and it works well with the NVDA Addon specially written for it.  That though was a few years ago, and I don't know if it will work with the latest versions of Sibelius.  But I am aware that Sibelius works well with Narator, something, I must admit that did surprise me.  Anyways, Tried Musescore and see if it will help you, and you can contact me off list if you need further help.  I'll do my best.  Cheers and good luck for your Music Technology course.  I did the same course myself back in 1994.

I have been playing around with a program called Musescore and thus far can input pitches right from the qwerty keyboard. However, I don't yet know whether I can specify note values from the keyboard, insert dynamic markings, articulation signs or items above staves such as lyrics and chords. I keep hearing rumors about Sibelius finally being accessible, but thus far haven't found a single blind person using it.

Maybe you know this issues or you have some ideas how to solve them. If it makes things easier, I also can open two bug reports...
If you want these to be addressed the best course of action would be to
open a bug report on GitHub after testing with latest alpha.

Try Lilypond. It is a notation markup language, which can be converted to PDF or Midi. Being a simple text file, Lilypond files can be written with NVDA using Notepad++ or any other editor, and its compiler is a program run on the command line, or in Powershell if you use that more. It is the most accessible.

I have done this before. First, type the search terms as normal. Then,
on the results page, there should be a button for filters. Press the b
key until you get to this. NVDA should say something like, "clickable
search filters toggle button not pressed." Press the space bar on that
to open the filters. Then, you can navigate by heading with the h key.
You should get upload date, type, duration, etc. What I like to do is
choose video under type, then sort by: upload date. Then I get the
most recent videos for my search term. Hope this helps.

That is interesting, thanks Quentin. SO if an ALT tag was empty NVDA wouldn't just speak it, it would not even appear as a graphical object?

You are correct, the site does need you to log in. I've been talking to the IT team behind the website and I'm happy to say they are currently doing a re-design to improve accessibility for screen readers.

The senior designer tells me the images do use the IMG tag but she also tells me it is a slideshow, so I'm just asking her how that might be being done. NVDA is not finding any graphics (except the main website logo) and there are no embedded objects such as YouTube videos.

I'm really happy to see a website taking screen reader accessibility seriously :)

They are working on a fix for it.
