Hi

Only add ons for the nvda screen reader that are compatible with the nvda updater. Not the older add ons from other websites.

nVDA has its own built in updater. it is found under help then check for update.

Hi,

Version 19.09 isn’t out yet – won’t be available until late August at the earliest so folks can at least give NVDA 2019.2 a test drive. However, 19.08.1 can be downloaded from:

https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/addonUpdater.en.html

From there, select stable version, and Add-on Updater will be ready for download.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi all,

Add-on Updater 19.08.1 is now available. This version registers Control Usage Assistant for update checks and resolves an issue where you could not check for updates for certain add-ons with unexpected update channels set (NVDA would do nothing or play error tones).

Note: this update will install on NVDA 2019.1, but I recommend using this add-on with 2019.2. Add-on Updater 19.09 will require NVDA 2019.2.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: Accessible music notation software compatible with NVDA

Here's a demo of MuseScore.

https://accessiblemusicnotation.wordpress.com/2019/08/06/musescore-accessibility-demo/

And if you look at the main blog here:

https://accessiblemusicnotation.wordpress.com/

you can find accessibility updates that were done for writing, I'm
pretty sure, like so.

https://musescore.org/en/user/930801/blog

And here's something on Ver. 3.

https://musescore.org/en/node/292383

I don't know what's implemented and what's not, because I haven't messed
with 2 much and I didn't even know 3 existed. But it sounds like there's
potential work happening anyway. But the docs already linked to and this
should give you the full range of stuff to play with so you can see what
works and what doesn't.

Just looking at it now, you are right, if you tab to the "pictures" button, then tab one more time, it doesn't say anything, but that's the edit field for your signature.  You can type in there but nothing is read.  By default it has "Sent from Mail for Windows 10".  What I would recommend for now, is write your signature in Word or Notepad or somewhere else, copy it, then come to this edit box, select all, and paste.

FWIW, Narrator doesn't work any better than NVDA at reading that section, so it definitely is an issue with that screen in Mail.

Quentin.

I have been playing around with a program called Musescore and thus far can input pitches right from the qwerty keyboard. However, I don't yet know whether I can specify note values from the keyboard, insert dynamic markings, articulation signs or items above staves such as lyrics and chords. I keep hearing rumors about Sibelius finally being accessible, but thus far haven't found a single blind person using it.

I've installed the latest alpha snapshot of NVDA and started a terminal on my Windows 10 box.

The first thing I've noticed is, that some output in the terminal is underlined on my braille display with the alpha snapshot. So simply the output of a directory listing (dir) is underlined and this makes reading such output very difficult :-(. The same occures when I am on a remote system with ssh. With the current stable version of NVDA this underlining does not occure.

Another strange behaviour with the alpha snapshot is a bit difficult to explain :-(. When I am on a remote system in a text file opened with the vi editor the character wich is under the cursor is not displayed. So if I am on the first character in the line everything but not the first character of the line is shown. If I move one character to the right to the second position in the line the first character is shown and all character from the third position, but not the second character. This also does not ocure with the current stable release of NVDA.

I don't know if the two problems are related to your changes to the terminal support, the braille output or what ever in the alpha snapshot, but both things are not happening with the current stable release. Maybe you know this issues or you have some ideas how to solve them. If it makes things easier, I also can open two bug reports...
If you want these to be addressed the best course of action would be to
open a bug report on GitHub after testing with latest alpha.

Re: Accessible music notation software compatible with NVDA

Try Lilypond. It is a notation markup language, which can be converted to PDF or Midi. Being a simple text file, Lilypond files can be written with NVDA using Notepad++ or any other editor, and its compiler is a program run on the command line, or in Powershell if you use that more. It is the most accessible.
