Out of curiosity isn’t the focus placed on the AM and PM so that no matter how large a number before the focus is the start time will be determined by AM or PM?

Also, I plan on creating some more clock chimes.

Hi everybody,

I am Abdel, a collaborator for the add-on Clock and calendar.

Someone reported the following bug when using quiet hours:

If the start time is greater than the end time, the duration of the

quiet hours does not arrive until the end time.

In principle, it must be the next day that must be automatically chosen

through an internal code.

This code is in the timeInRange function, defined in the dtfunctions module.

This function has been corrected as follows, to fix the bug:

> def timeInRange(startTime, endTime, checkTime, use24hour=False):

The 19.09-dev version of the add-on is downloadable here, it is also

available by clicking on the "development version" link on the community

site, as well as with addonUpdater, in the dev channel:

Hello,
I am using thunderbird and it is really fast and I have really lots of mail.
If you are using windows10, consider that if you don't exclude the thunderbird folder from Windows Defender, your client will be slow and slow and still slow!
I spent about 3 weeks in order to understand why thunderbird was suddenly so stupid, and I realized that after excluding all its data from the windows defender scan system, all become ok!

Il 25/08/2019 17:58, Vincent Le Goff ha scritto:
Hi everyone,
This has been reported for a few weeks or months and things are getting worse, so I'm afraid I'll have to leave the Thunderbird community.  The client is getting extremely sluggish.  It behaves well for sighted users but the thing is not reporting information to NVDA in less than a few seconds for each key press, especially for us unfortunate relying on Braille.  Enough is enough. Thunderbird served its purpose but I need a fast email client and can't spend 2 hours reading my 100 daily emails (yep, I happen to receive lots of emails).
But this "ragequit" will pose some problems.  The first, and obvious, is: what to use now?  Relying on Microsoft products doesn't sit too well, I'm already doing a lot of that, but it seems there aren't so many choices.  For awhile I heard about an open-source email client specifically created for accessibility, but I can't remember what the name was, who created it, and Google can't help me.
So the debate is open: let's avoid the flamewar if possible, but what are you using?  What would be more fitting with NVDA?  I have a few requirements:
- I'm running on Windows 10 (64-bit). Can't do without that.
- I have two accounts and possibly three, so I need to have support for several email accounts and simple switches between them.
- I need support for iMap, which is basically the only protocol I used to retreieve messages.
- Support for simple text and HTML content is obviously a strong bonus.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Vincent

Re: Can't run NVDA with admin rights on a MS Surface

Luke,

Thanks.  Can't argue with experience, that's for sure!

I never use a standard account for myself.   For those (and I'm not saying you're one of them - people make choices for their own reasons) who are inclined to get infected repeatedly even after having been taught about safe practices for interacting with cyberspace I always recommend using a standard account.   I haven't had an infection in at least 25 years and so often need to install, uninstall, or otherwise tweak my system in a way that requires admin rights that I don't want to constantly have to either switch users or provide passwords to elevate stuff.

More data is going to be needed to get to a root cause and solution on this specific issue.

Re: Please help (Excel with NVDA)

Chris Mullins

Hi

Have you  merged the cells a1-a12 and a13-a20?

If so, de-merge  them, put the cursor in a13 and press the applications key, arrow down the displayed context menu to “Insert and press enter.  Arrow to “Entire row and press enter.  This will put a blank 13th row and group 2 will start at row 14.

Select cells a14-A21 and merge them to form the Group 2 roll heading.

Go to row 13 and type in ID, name etc for the new member and in columns where there is a formula, copy it from the equivalent cell in the row above and paste it into row 13.  Provided the formulas have relative references, Excel will automatically change them.  If you have any absolute references, copy the formula anyway then manually edit to change them if necessary.

Finally re-merge a1-A13 to form the Group 1 roll.

Cheers

Chris

In your original message, you said:

There is a function (name, ID, Department, date (1-31 with P stands for Present), and total sum at the end of each roll).
So as I understand it, here is an example set of rows, with column IDs above them:
A, B, C, D, E
4: Bob Smith, 72, Science, P, some_kind_of_sum_formula
5: Alice Smith, 84, Science, P, some_kind_of_sum_formula

(I'm not trying to format that tabularly as it won't survive transmission: count the commas if you want it to line up. Also, the 4: and 5: are row numbers.)

In that, "Bob Smith" is in A4, and "some_kind_of_sum_formula" is in E4.

If I understand that correctly, than the methods I gave you should work.
And, since if you mess up all you have to do is exit without saving, or use control+z to un do, you have nothing to lose by trying one of them.

(Note: I understand that the 1-31 date is probably a range of 31 columns with a P in them or not (I.E. it's probably D through AH). I have shortened that to just column D for purposes of this email.)

- I'd like to add one more participant to the group1, which will be at B13, which is now the first column of Group2.
That contradicts your statement in the earlier email, in which you said that Group 2 started at A13. Now you say it starts at B13, which means it's offset to the right by one column, which seems strange.
So the names in Group 2, are in the same column with the IDs in Group 1, as i understand your layout after this email.

Regardless of that oddity, the methods I suggested should still work.

- I'd like NVDA to say "group 1 A4 through A13" instead of "A4 through A12".
You can mark the heading for the Group 1 column as a column heading. However you can not have two column headings in the same column, so you will not be able to get it to say "Group 2" when you move to A13 from A12 (Group 1). You can get it to say "Group 2" in column B, but since the IDs for Group 1 are in column B, while the names for Group 2 are in column B according to the above, the IDs for Group 1 will be spoken under the heading of "Group 2" in that case.

This is kind of bad sheet design. The groups should have been done in separate worksheets in the same workbook, or possibly in two separate table objects, although I'm not skilled with that method.
There may be other solutions, but somebody else will have to point them out.

Luke

Thank you for your reply,
However, let me clarify my situation.
- group 1 is A4-A12 (the header name of multiple rows, and B4-B12 will be the column to insert ID of participants.
- I'd like to add one more participant to the group1, which will be at B13, which is now the first column of Group2.
- I'd like NVDA to say "group 1 A4 through A13" instead of "A4 through A12".

Thank you.

Re: Please help (Excel with NVDA)

Luke Davis

There are two methods I can think of:

First, according to this website [1], while I have not tried it, Excel knows that there are consecutive formulas in your sheet. So, if you insert new rows (the word is rows, not rolls) in a range with formulae, for example by inserting new rows between A11 and A12, Excel should replicate the formula for you.

Assuming that doesn't work for you, there is another way you can try: copying and updating.

1. Move to A12.
2. Press shift+right arrow, then shift+end, to select the row.
3. Press control+c to copy it.
4. Press home to get back to A12 and cancel the selection.
5. Press control+shift+= (or use the context menu to go to "insert copy"). That will bring up a dialog box.
6. Use the down arrow to go to "move cells down", then press enter.

If you want more than one new row, repeat steps five and six as many times as you need new rows.
Then, moving down from A12 to A13, you should find copy(ies) of A12. Edit it(them) as you see fit.

There may be formulas that do not like this style of copying, it really depends on your sheet, and what options you have selected. The website mentions that, too.

Brian

Because it is generally better from a computer security prospective, I use a non-administrative (I.E. standard) account as my usual every day account. NVDA has no trouble starting or running on these accounts, any version, any type (portable, temporary, installed).

There are problems elevating to run certain installers (the Nullsoft installer, for example, if you elevate it to run, several aspects don't work right, though you can still get the job done usually if you just accept all the defaults). You also can't use an administrative command prompt. Other than that, everything works fine, and most things where you have to enter an admin password to elevate also work fine, except as noted.
