Bum pad five twice quicklyCecelia, number pad (numpad) five will give you words, and numpad 5 twice will give you the spelling of words. It takes numpad five three times to get phonetics. However those are still the phonetics for the word, not just one character, which I believe Matt was asking about. For that, the command is numpad two, twice. Or you could use the Delayed Character Descriptions add-on already discussed, which makes NVDA behave like mobile screen readers in this respect. You can't save the app as far as I know. Microsoft stores a list
of your downloaded or purchased apps in the Microsoft Store, or
you can search for it again, but those are the only ways I know to
get it back.

Hi. I know it does that, but my concern is that I would like to
save the app for when I have to reset my system or get a new
system, then I can't install the product I purchased on those, and
having to navigate the windows store again is a pain in the

Hi. When you download an app, it's automatically installed and
will show up in your start menu. I hope this helps.

Using OCR To Retrieve Text From Images
Hi good people:
I don't know how to use OCR to extract text from an image. When I get an attachment in PDF format, and I have to open it, in many cases, I cannot go through it, because, I am sometimes told that the material is a scanned image which might need OCR, or it is a an empty document. Some times I hear the name of the document read, and the sentence Adobe acrobat reader, not responding. I have OCR on my computer, but I just don't know how to use it to perform this task, that is getting such a material read. Hope you understand my problem. Hope to read a solution from you lovely chaps. Ibrahim.

Hi Azeesh, The built-in equation editor in Word is not overly accessible. We have been recommending using MathType and MathPlayer from Design Science for mathml usage: https://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathplayer/ MathPlayer is free and MathType has a free and a paid version - the free version is suitable for NVDA's needs. Kind regards Quentin.

Re: Reading characters phonetically?

Hi
You use either the right or left arrow keys on your keyboard. If this is done say in a document when you arrow onto the letter it will be read out just a little after as say letter A is alfa. This is if you are editing a document.
If you are reviewing a say web page you could also use the number 1 and 3 on the numeric key pad but can not be edited if done that way. Same idea when it is read out and the number 2 you do not have to use when the add on is installed to hear it spoken when hit 3 times .
You can also ajust the time before it is spoken out but is right for me and it seems you might be able to use a gesture to turn this feature on and off which I have not done yet.
