problems with espeak and latest version of nvda

Sam Bushman

Hi All,

I am using

2019.2 of NVDA.

When I use espeak the first part of each speech is lower in volume.

When I spell words etc it’s lower volume as well.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Thanks,
Sam

Re: NVDA and Signal App

Nimer Jaber

Hello,

This topic is really best for the chat list. Why? Because it is not speaking as to NVDA features, rather about how to use an app. I think it is appropriate to ask whether an app is accessible, but once we determine whether or not it is, any questions about the app in question and not about NVDA features tend to drift to off-topic categories. Also, I would urge anyone with a question about whether or not an app is accessible to try it.

If anyone has a question about whether or not something is on topic, please write to nvda+owner@nvda.groups.io and I would be happy to discuss this with you. I don't believe the current policies are confusing, but if you believe they are, please let me know that as well.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Thanks for testing Signal. I wonder whether things might improve if the window itself were maximized. This was one of the pieces of advice I often got from tech foks whenever I ran into trouble with seeing the screen of a software program set up the first time around. Either it needs to be "maximized" from within or from outside by "maximizing" the link of said software program on the desktop. (I am still using Windows 7, so I have not tried Signal yet.)

And yes, let's compare notes on how it does on Windows. I would like to use in addition to the one installed on my iPhone.

Same as you, I am not sure whether it is okay  to discuss this topic here  or whether we shall do so privately.

Ok, I've installed Signal Desktop. Either I'm totally stupid, or it
doesn't work as expected with NVDA.

I can't even set it up properly. It keeps telling me that my data have
been imported, and that I have to choose a folder. I can't choose any
folder, and it isn't clear where data are placed.

Don't know what to say...

Hi Robert

The one issue this has created is that TB now hangs trying to save sent mail on the remote account, for both accounts I have.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks Robert, this really helped.

I still have one issue with TB - when I am replying to a message, it sometimes feels like I am typing through mud, because the system lags and stutters - it is really noticeable if I have character echo on.

But it doesn't happen consistently ...

Re: Accessing Chrome History

Gene

See this article, which may help you see more history and see it more conveniently.  I don't know anything about this site and I don't vouch for any add-ons or utilities discussed in terms of safety or stability.  But it has interesting and potentially useful information.

As for the initial problem, See if this will help.
Open history.
Tab until you get to a check box.
Tab once beyond it and you are In a history item

Go into forms mode, NVDA key space bar.
Then down arrow and see how many results you can move through.  I don't know if that will solve the problem.
There is a search edit field you probably know about and that may be a much better way to use history in Chrome without the utility or add-on.  I seldom use history and I particularly dislike the Chrome history interface.

Hi

the add on updater updates supported add ons that are found on the official nvda add on web page.

I read on the list about 60 percent of them are ready to go with nvda 2019.3 when it comes out. So they are updating them so they work on it.

I think if you have nvda 2019.2 100 percent are compatible

It is because of the new python 3 code they need it to work on.
