Re: [NVDA pronouncing "County" as "Company" in address line

Kevin Huber

Hi Cearbhall:

Try going into the Voice dictionary and changing it using the following method:

1. Press insert-n to open the NVDA menu.
2. Arrow down to Preferrences and press the right arrow key to open
the preferences submenu.
3. Arrow down to Voice Dictionary and press the right arrow to open
that submenu.
4. Arrow down to Speech Dictionary and press the Enter key.
5. Tab to the Add button and press the spacebar or the Enter key to
activate that button.
6. Type the original word, in your case, you would type Co
7. Press the tab key and then type the word that you want to replace
it with, in your case, you would type the word County.
8. Tab to OK and press the Enter key.
9. Make sure that the settings will be maintained by going into the
NVDA menu, arrowing to Save Configuration and press the Enter key.

I hope this helps.

This is the common way to present the County in both the UK and Ireland.
For
example, I live in County Wicklow and this is represented in my address

How can I fix this?

Not sure you are right. I see cty a lot and never know, unless its obvious, if it is county or country.
There a lot of these expanded abbreviations in sapi5 and other synths, and the only way around them is often regular expressions in the dictionary to screen out the times you do not want it to expand the letters, in the middle of words, in email addresses etc.
The current most alloying ones are parts of UK post codes being seen as states in amarica abbreviations, and imperial weights and measures being seen as all sorts of strange things.
I'll leave it to those more expert in such things to give you some pointers as I've just tended to live with it unless I'm trying to make an mp3 out of a text file in which case I alter the document.

Re: [NVDA pronouncing "County" as "Company" in address line

Quentin Christensen

You can do this via the speech dictionaries.  To edit the dictionary:

1. Press NVDA+n to open the NVDA menu
2. Press P for preferences
3. Press enter or d for default dictionary, v for voice dictionary or t for temporary dictionary:

  • Default: rules in this dictionary affect all speech in NVDA.
  • Voice: rules in this dictionary affect speech for the synthesizer voice currently being used.
  • Temporary: rules in this dictionary affect all speech in NVDA, but only for the current session. These rules are temporary and will be lost if NVDA is restarted.

  • 4. Press alt+a to add a new rule
    5. Type "co." (with the dot but without the quotes)
    6. Press tab
    7. Type the new word (county)
    8. Press enter
    9. Press TAB four times to get to the OK button
    10. Press ENTER.

More information on the dictionaries here: file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/NVDA/documentation/en/userGuide.html#toc75

    Kind regards

    Quentin.

    Hi

Activate NVDA menu and go to preferences, speech dictionary menu.  Press enter on  the Voice dictionary and add an entry.  Include the initial capital, the trailing period and check the case sensitive box.  Use the OK buttons to save the data.  The trailing period is important as for example, “John Wainwright & Co Ltd” is where Company would apply.

Please could someone suggest how to reach and dismiss the banner that comes up on websites, advising me that the site uses cookies.

There is an x at the end of the banner, but I have tried everything I know, firstly to navigate to the banner and then to reach the x to dismiss it with NVDA and cannot get anywhere near it. I am on Windows 10 and the latest official release of NVDA.

Is there perhaps a Windows command which helps? Brian Crabtree

I can recomend Avira antivirus, It's have got good reputation, and it's also fairly accesible. You can do the most important tasks, as canning the system and so on.

Problem using NVDA with CombiBraille via BRLTTy on win10-32 bit

    "René Ludwig

    Hello,
The above described configuration worked well under Win 7. after upgrading to windows 10 with a clean install and installation of the latest versions of NVDA and BRLTTY i get an error message when selecting BRLTTY from the braille dialogbox in NVDA. It seems that the communication between BRLTTY and the CombiBraille works because i get the usual message on the braille when the BRLTTY service is loaded.
Is there anything i can do to get braille working again?
    Many thanks!
    Rene

    Thanks for the information.
I would highly appreciative if there can be a addons/feature of NVDA that can give some unnamed item (e.g. buttons) a lable.

Yes, IOS do have this function build in and on Windows, I know only webvisim (addons for firefox) could do so.

    Hi

I know there was talk about one for NVDA but as far as I know there is not one and no add on for one either for nvda.

The following link will tell you a little bit more on where it is at present not any where at https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/2111

My self and other some one said a while ago if this could be done for NVDA like crowd funded I am pretty sure there were people who would put in for it..

I use an android phone with talk back and it has it own graphics labeler built into it, the apple i phone and other screen readers I have used have it built in as well. I did not think I would use it much on my android phone, but when you can make that app usable by labeling the button etc, it is worth it.

A while ago there was a guy that did a netdrive.pie file which if I remembered rightly could do something like that, but might have only done it for the one object???? I am not sure if he went any further on it, but I think it is the same file I still have here on my pc.

    Hi

I wonder if some how you have restricted where the mouse goes. I was
just looking through the commands and saw these 2.

I do not use the mouse hardly and when I do now I use a touch pad, so it
moves the pointer to where my finger is.

    The commands are below.

nvda+win+c: select the level of movement. nvda+win+r: toggle mouse
    restriction.

it might be a matter of unrestricting what theyare set to.

I was using the mouse 50 percent of the time, just by moving the mouse

Are these the ones you just downloaded or ones that were there before.
    Also
if they were there before which version of nvda was running at the time?
I have found at times that I've had to delete and reinstall add ons if
there has been an nvda update in between. Its not always the case but
sometimes. My guess is that some settings got screwed with or something.

opened chosen addons, nvda made as usual. Then I restart nvda, but in
    Addon
manager addon status was "install" and now I cannot use some of addons.
