Riot IM gets an accessibility upgrade.
Riot IM is basically like a more feature heavy Miranda NG. I like Miranda NG better because it is very small and portable, but I wanted to share their below blog post. I am very glad to see they scrapped a few things to build with accessibility in mind.

Re: Silent speech on outlook message list
Ralf Kefferpuetz
It was reported from 1 or 2 users in Office 2016, however I never could reproduce it in Office 2013, 2016 2019 and 365.

Hi all
I know this has been reported before, however can somebody please clarify which versions of either NVDA, Windows, or outlook this affects?
The issue is that NVDA’s speech is silent when moving through the message list in a populated inbox in outlook. It only occurs on certain setups – I was hoping for a quick clarification on where this issue is present.
Thanks Luke Scholey

I don't think there is an equivalent of the Jaws F8 to select a table. To get feedback on cell co-ordinates, press NVDA+Ctrl+d to open the Document Formatting settings and check the appropriate box. Cheers Chris

Is there an easy way of selecting a table on a web page? for example, like F8 in JAWS? Is there a way to configure NVDA so that it displays the cell reference in Excel? At the moment I just see "Cell" which is not very helpful. Thanks Pele West

Installing SPL
Dan Kerstetter
Hello all. I haven’t installed SPL for quite some time so I’m at a loss.
When entering the serial number and code in the SPL registration field, do I need to insert dashes and spaces; or are they automatically placed where they should be?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: is there app or addon for NVDA on windows 10 for previewing files
except this does not answer the original posters question. On mac os I can hit space and hear the video, skim through it, read a word document, listen to an audio file. You cannot do this in windows. I cannot hit space on a word doc or video and know, this is right or no this is not what I'm looking for. Sarah Alawami, owner of TFFP. . For more info go to our website. Hi, The fastest way to obtain such info (provided that Fil Explorer is set to “details”) is using left or right arrow keys to view file metadata information. Cheers, Joseph

HI:
Thanks, it is a step forward in the right direction.
I discovered that—taking a detour—I can obtain information about size and type of file, date of origin and date last accessed, etc., by opening toe context menu and scrolling up once to learn about specific details of a file. It is doable but does not save time.
Moreover, with “report tooltip” turned on, I temporarily see the information I asked about. However, it does not display long enough for me to catch the details I am looking for. Is there a setting to control it?
Thanks, Cordelia

Hi, Sometimes this info is shown as a tool tip, and I bet NVDA is not told to announce this. To change this, go to NVDA menu/Preferences/Settings/Object presentation and check “report tooltips” checkbox. Cheers, Joseph

Hi:
I have the same question, for with another screen reader I can see type and size of files, date last accessed, number of file within a directory/folder, etc. I know I did not change anything but such information is missing whenever I use NVDA. As I am new to NVDA, I might not be aware of specific settings yet and would gratefully accept advice to make such information more readily available prior to opening files.
Thanks, Cordelia

Hello,
one thing that constantly annoys me is when I am looking for a concrete file like a word document, I have to open the up in word or the respective application to take a look at the contents. Is there a app or addon accessible with NVDA that would let me preview a file without properly opening it.
I know mac \OS letw you preview pdfs, documents, video and audio files in the file viewer. Something like that for windows 10 usable with \NVDA would be fantastic.
I see explorer has a preview pane but it doesnt seem to be accessible unfortunately...
Kind Regards, Sam
