Re: audio ducking?
See the Quick Commands Reference (NVDA+N,H,Q) then search on ducking. You'll find the keyboard shortcut that toggles ducking states.

audio ducking?
Dean Martineau <topdot@...>
This is pretty elementary: I thought NVDA had a feature akin to the JAWS Audio Ducking feature, where audio content sound can be lowered so that synthesizer speech can be heard. I’m not finding the option in 2019.2. Please enlighten me.

Firefox addon and shortcut to read address
Vincent Le Goff <vincent.legoff.srs@...>
Hi everyone,
Am I the only one using Firefox, the mozilla NVDA addon and experiencing issues when pressing NVDA + A to read the address bar? I've become quite fond of this shortcut but I always get "Address not found". Before reporting to the addon developer I would like to check. It might be something else entirely, if no one has the same issue. Thanks, Vincent

I am just wondering at how best to debug this. I don't have a braille display, so can't do it locally. But if it's a recurrent problem, it needs to be worked on, which means someone needs to file an issue for it. Would you or someone be willing to replicate this process in a portable copy with debugging turned on, and then provide a copy of the log? Luke

Re: nvda and volume change
Joe Paton
Hello quentin,
It has been quite a while since I wrote to the list regarding this volume change problem. I maybe should have change the subject to something like "egg on my face." It turns out that the issue indeed was caused by a ducking setting being in force. I did not realize that there are three settings, so completely mis read the screen output. Thanks for writing, and great pleasure around my wife's office just now, as she does a lot of work with audio. Just thought I'd update you. Thanks. Joe

Re: Replacing an Input Gesture
Suzy
Hi, Luke.
I'm sorry' if I wasn't clear. I began my first message with: "I am using Windows 10 (with all automatic updates installed), NVDA 2019.2.1, and a Braille Edge display. The HIMS driver is installed." I assumed it was clear that I was remapping commands for the Braille Edge. There are several reasons for doing this. 1. I have a VarioUltra 20, which I use with NVDA and The Braille Extender add-on. I love the functionality Braille Extender adds to NVDA' and I desired the same with the Edge. The Edge is not supported by Braille Extender. But, the developer points out that changes can be made through the Input Gestures dialog. 2. My hands are small' and several of the default mappings for commands are awkward. 3. I want gestures to make more use of the Edge's eight function keys. 4. I want some gestures to more closely match their Vu counterparts in Braille Extender, so my memory is not taxed from display to display. 5. It is cold' dismal, and rainy here' so I have a perfect excuse for sitting down and learning. I am not changing what Alt+F4 does. And Alt+F4 as a keystroke did not disappear. However, when I located Alt+F4 among the many Emulated System Keyboard Keys and removed the single gesture for it, Alt+4 was no longer in the list of keys to emulate. I had no idea how to retrieve it other than to obliterate whatever file I had altered in order to restore the defaults. thus my attempts to uninstall and reinstall NVDA. Chris gave me instructions on how to do what I wanted. I followed them and remapped all the gestures I had created. While I was at it, I examined the Gestures.ini file and manually created a gesture for F2. If I ever make the mistake of removing all mappings for a gesture in the future, I know I can re-enter it manually, or ,i can install the backup of the Gestures.ini file ,i am keeping in another folder. I hope this clarifies the matter. Suzy

Yes, you can use a portable copy to
make an installed copy. I have done it a couple times.

Hi all,
Is there a file that I can copy from NVDA which is all the settings e.g. the key echo and startup options etc? This is so that if I put it on another machine, I can quickly reset it to the way that I like it?

Re: NVDA Configuration File
You can create a portable copy of nvda with all of your settings and run it from the flash drive on the new computer. I think but i'm not sure, if there is a way to turn the portable into an installed copy, I cannot remember at this point in time but good luck. Sarah Alawami, owner of TFFP. . Re: NVDA Configuration File

Just make a portable copy of NVDA on a thumb drive or other removable media and when it asks if you want to copy the user configuration settings check the box. Now you can use that portable copy to install NVDA on another machine and all your current settings and even any add ons you have will be copied to the other machine. Roger

Re: Libreoffice and text highlighting

Have to check, but I believe when you are back on document canvas the highlighted status will sound if you have set NVDA to report formatting.
Otherwise, while navigated onto the Formatting toolbar and entered the Highlight Color control,
Having only one color sound when you mouseover the palette suggests you are not on the Standard palette and could have changed to the Document colors palette.
The palette choices are elements is the combobox listing--be sure you are on the
Standard entry
Move between the elements with Tab and shift-Tab, escape key to exit the dialog, F10 to return to main menu and Control-F6 to return to document.

Thanks again. I have pressed enter on the highlight drop down menu,do you know is there any NVDA function that can check whether the hightlight has been applied or not? I tried pressing the drop down menu by moving mouse curser, and it seemed that I can only find the Gold color.

Re: issues with synths
Yes, both atguys and code factory servers went offline. When they came back online I had to reactivate again, however I didn't lose my authorisation so thats good. On that note, they do state that if you don't deactivate your system before an major upgrade or reinstall of the os you will lose a set but you can always ask for a reset unless you are stupid about it and do it to often but there you go.

Re: issues with synths

Hi Shaun, Did you resolve your issue with the Code Factory voices? In terms of the web site, I can still get to it here: https://codefactoryglobal.com/app-store/voices-for-nvda/ I've been in contact with them recently (and they assure me there will be an update to their add-on to work with NVDA 2019.3 when we get closer to releasing that version of NVDA ourselves), so I don't believe they are going anywhere or planning to abandon users any time soon. If you are still having problems with it, I'd recommend contacting Code Factory directly, as it sounds like a licensing problem - though if the website was down the other day, that was likely the same issue, so hopefully everything is ok again now. Kind regards Quentin.
