Overlays in chrome
Sile
Hello
I recently had to log into my verizon account and the sign-in window appeared as an overlay. I could open it or close it, but could not reach the email or password boxes. Is there a way around this? --Sile

I am having this issue as well. I don't even run Skype for Buisness. But it opens at startup anyway. How can I disable that?

Re: Chromeium edge release date announced.

I’m a Chrome girl. Chrome is way faster than edge. So, you think the new Edge is gonna be better? I know it’s slow and clumsy right now and you don’t have some of the options with it that you have with Chrome. What’s gonna change?

Do you know if it has a keyboard shortcut for reader mode? I didn’t see one. Also don’t see an option to just open a blank page in new tabs. Did I miss something?

Chromeium edge release date announced.
Microsoft just announced a tentative release date for the new Chromium Edge browser. And, holy batman, I can't wait to replace the old with the new for good! No more beta's! the target date is Jan. 15, as said here. They just released the last beta. I hope you all download it and give feedback. Makes sense, too, because they announced their new FireFox looking logo the other day too. Edge will be far better than what it is now. Seriously. Give it a spin, and report feedback, before the final release.

Re: Reset NVDA Input Gestures
molly the blind tech lover
There is a way to remove the input gestures you don't want anymore. For example, if you wish to create a gesture that will allow NVDA to tell you when the next alarm is, there is an option to remove the gesture after it is created. This is just one example, as I created an input gesture for the clock add-on, allowing NVDA to announce when the next alarm is. But you can create gestures for other things as well. Then if you wish, they can be removed.

So are you saying the command keys only work with the HumanWare protocol? That's good to know.

While it works for me, the six command keys don't seem to be supported.

Re: Using HumanWare Brailliant BI 40 with NVDA

Mine is set to HumanWare protocol, because as far as I know, automatic detection doesn't work with OpenBraille. But you should be able to set the driver to HumanWare brailliant bi in NVDA manually, and it should work. OpenBraille lags a bit, which is why I don't use it. But I can understand why you'd want to, if you also intend to use the Brailliant with narrator, since narrator didn't seem to work unless I enabled openbraille.

In fact, I didn't install the USB driver since it should work without them when using the Open Braille protocol. But, I guess I am missing something then.

Using HumanWare Brailliant BI 40 with NVDA
Daniel Gartmann
Hi,
I tried withouth success to use the BI 40 from HumanWare with the 2019.2.1 version of NVDA. I tried connecting with the "Auto" option in the Braille settings via USB. Is anybody out there using the HumanWare Brailliant BI 40 with NVDA and how? Since I am using a device that is not my own, I can't do much testing myself. But while I have it for preparing a JAWS training, I couldn't resist the temptation to try it out with NVDA. Thanks for your input. Daniel

Re: Reset NVDA Input Gestures
hurrikennyandopo ...
Hi
In the current version of nvda you can remove gestures if you want to then go back and add a new one in its place unless it does not let you.
The alfa version has this feature built into it but will not been seen until 2019.3 when it comes out.

Re: Other Windows that overlay part of the screen was: [nvda] Advertising Windows that overlay part of the screen

Unfortunately, as those windows are probably working as the designer intended, I suspect logs of each program won't help. A screenshot of the screen, perhaps with NVDA's speech viewer visible, and of course your description of the issue, may be your only way to report to each inaccessible developer. Link to documentation on NVDA's Speech Viewer: There is one other issue: in OP's case, the ads seemed to be associated with a program they desired to use, but when that isn't necessarily true - especially with ads at startup - my instinct is that you might have a virus. I would encourage the use of a boot-loading virus scanner in circumstances when you really have no idea where the ads/pop-ups are coming from. All of the top free virus scanners are adware, by the way. You may have to try multiple in order to find one that doesn't cause this issue. I may be able to provide more information/direction if you send me a screenshot of the whole desktop when a window pops up. - Oriana

A friendly reminder from an add-on developer: plese provide details if you run into problems with an add-on or two
Hi everyone, Over the last few days, I have received several reports of one of my add-ons (specifically, Windows 10 App Essentials) not working for some of you. Whenever I get reports like this, I try my best to think about what could have gone wrong and attempt to provide a solution. Part of the reason why I couldn’t respond to you all on a timely basis (besides due to a speech tournament) is the fact that some reports did not include details I needed. Specifically, I need the following information when you report add-on problems:
Please include as much info as possible the next time you run into add-on problems. As for Windows 10 App Essentials issue reported by Ollie, I’ll investigate once details are received. Thanks. Cheers, Joseph

Unless Microsoft understands, somehow, that Windows OneCore voices aren’t the best thing since peanut butter, we pretty much won’t get them in a good form, offline.

If you already had English UK / US / Canadian installed previously, then the speech data was likely already there. If you try installing English Australian / English South African, English Irish or other variants, see if you get any other options then.
