Re: NVDA adding and changing settings
David Griffith
I don’t appear to be able to do it here, unless I am misunderstanding Review cursor. I have in Desktop layout used numpad 7,9 and numpad + but all I can access is the one line with the NVDA announcement top at the start of the line and bottom at the end of the line. I have just tried it with several paragraphs copied to the clipboard but can only retrieve the first line of each paragraph. Are there other key combinations I should be using? David Griffith

Re: NVDA adding and changing settings
David Griffith
I agree it has limited functionality – it also seems to display only one line of a clipboard clip. However I guess it might be useful in an emergency as you can turn on NVDA’s Speech Viewer to accessibly access the content displayed. Admittedly I have not tried this but David Griffith Sent from Mail for Windows 10

Dear NVDA community,
after more than 8 months in which we spent exciting time together to organize the NVDACon 2019, we are almost there!
The conference will start on november 15th 2019 at 21:00 UTC with the opening forum as everyone should already know.
This year’s conference is held for the first time in november. Join us on a very inlightning jurney during which we will find out that NVDA is everywhere! This year we will be proud to have Google as well as Firefox on our conference. For more details, check the preliminary schedule at https://www.nvdacon.org/2019-program-and-schedule
In any case, there are plenty of reasons why this NVDACon will be unique!
We will be glad to see you at NVDACon 2019.

GoldWave add-on 19.11
#addonrelease
Hi all,
GoldWave add-on 19.11 is now available. In addition to internal changes, this version adds a custom help message for sound window (only seen if Control Usage Assistant add-on is installed) and drops support for NVDA releases earlier than 2019.1. As always, the new update can be found on community add-ons website or via Add-on Updater.
IMPORTANT: from add-on 19.11 onwards, the following combination is required:
A release scheduled for early 2020 will require NVDA 2019.3 or later to align with other add-ons. For people needing to use old GoldWave releases and/or using old NVDA versions, add-on 19.04.1 can be found at: https://github.com/josephsl/goldWave/releases/download/19.04/goldwave-19.04.1.nvda-addon

Hims braille displays issue
Patrick ZAJDA
Hello,
Some users have reported me they cannot use their Hims braille display using USB with NVDA.
For someone it is with a BrailleSense, for the second person it is a Brailleedge. When they connect the display to by USB, NVDA display a dialog because it is not recognized.
The Hims USB driver is installed.
A precision, it worked before NVDA 2019.1 for the brailleedge.
Does someone has encountered the same issue and does someone has succeeded in resolve it to be able to use with NVDA 2019.2.1 ?
Best regards,

You can see where the conference is held if you access the link “how to join us”from the menu bar of the website.
The time script that converts the times for the presentations from utc to your local time zone works unfortunately only in Firefox and maybe Chrome. Thus, if you read it with your fone you should use one of those browsers.

The link doesn’t show any information about where the conference is being held, anything about accommodation and how ever the times are coded they can’t be read on my iPhone but are annnounced as something like invalid format.
Hope it is all successful.

Dear NVDA community,
since many years the community conference NVDACon is held and organized by different people on a voluntary basis. People who are engaged, who love the social interaction in this community and who are committed to this big social movement called NVDA.
If you feel and live the same values as described above, then please contact us at info@... and help us to moderate the conference next weekend! Play audio games in breaks between sessions, stream your own music projects that you created with NVDA and the audio software of your choice, be one of the moderators in different sessions, look over the chat and be responsible for a friendly and nice conversation without forbidden content or abusing / discriminatory behavior.
If you wantto moderate with us together the NVDACon 2019, please apply at info@... and include your data (email address, name, teamtalk user name, teamtalk experience) and a short description of your moderation experience in the past.
Thank you for your valuable help in advance.

NVDA store app gets UIAccess capabilities.
This has been merged into the master branch, so that's a really good thing! I'm also writing to Microsoft feedback a lot about allowing for things like font a tributes to be natively supported into the windows accessibility, UI thing. LOL! In my feedback to microsoft I was way more awake and precise, but anyway, check this out below. I included the Git page and some copied text that explains this a bit better. Summary of the issue: So far, NvDA packaged as a Windows Store app (whether side-loaded or instaled from the Store itself) has not been able to provide audio ducking, touch interaction, or access to elevated apps. However, in recent Windows insider builds, it has no become possible to request the UIAccess privilege from a Desktop Bridge packaged store app.

Hi, David:
I used neither JAWS nor WindowsEyes as a screen reader. The company that designed mine went out of business, hence I must switch to a new screen reader. But thanks nonetheless. I’ll do the learning.

If you are talking about Jaws I have to use the same techniques as below using Jaws 2020 and Outlook subscription version to find out the number of unread emails. In other words it is the same as NVDA now unless there is a command in Jaws I am not aware of. I was only an occasional user of Window Eyes so I do not know if this was a feature it had. Many thanks, Cearbhall, for that tip. The screen reader I have been using for years displays such information right away when I open Outlook. I guess I will have to do some learning when switching to NVDA as my primary screen reader.
Best regards, Cordelia

Cordelia,
Close all open emails and make sure that your cursor is resting on any closed message in the current folder. Press control+Shif+tab to opens the "Folder List". NVDA announces "Folder List minimised". Press space bar to expand the list. Arrow down to the folder you want. Note that NVDA speaks the number of messages contained in the folder after giving the folder name.
You can also open the Folder List by using control+y but this view of the list does not show the number of emails contained in each folder.
All the best,
Cearbhall

Hi:
I am looking for a method in NVDA to determine the number of new messages arriving in Outlook's in-box, spam folder, and junk mail. Does NVDA offer such info without my having to arrow up and down each list in each folder? Thanks.

Re: python text editors
Having done a few programming classes in the past. notepad works just fine, however you need to know what you are doing. Notepad++, there is note tab and such.
What you need is a syntax checking editor, searching editors for python or python3 will bring up some. Programming editorswould bring up some. I can't promise anything but most editors are accessible or should be most I have used have used normal controls but who knows. This page https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonEditors should list you most of what you want. notepad++ is a choice.

Control Usage Assistant generation 3/19.11 released
#addonrelease
Hi everyone,
Just in time for NVDACon 2019: Control Usage Assistant 19.11 aka generation 3.0 is now available. Not only add-on internals have changed, it also comes with a brand new help screen. The command is still the same: NVDA+H.
The biggest user-visible change is how the help message is shown. In previous releases, when you press NVDA+H, NVDA will present help message in speech and braille, so there was no way to review individual parts. In generation 3, help messages are shown inside a browse mode document so you can review help messages at your leisure.
Another big change: help messages are extensible. That is, any add-on that defines custom logic for various controls (also known as “overlay classes”) can define help messages for controls. To do so, any overlay class can define a “helpText” attribute (without quotes) that presents a help message string. If this attribute is found, Control Usage Assistant will present your custom help message, otherwise default message (based on control’s role) will be displayed. GoldWave add-on will be the first one to take advantage of this.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Also, the code repo for this add-on is now located at: https://github.com/josephsl/controlusageassistant
As always, the new update is just an update check away via Add-on Updater.
Cheers, Joseph

Jaffar Sidek <jaffar.sidek10@...>
There is an eclipse branch of the Python editor called Leclipse.
It has no official support from NVDA but is as accessible as
notepad in many ways because it is built off Eclipse, the official
Java based IDE for Java and many more programming languages.
Cheers!
