no, we certainly will not, at least not so blatantly.

I have an XP laptop, but, there is a reason for having it, as the software I use to program one of my motorola radios will not run on anything else. however, that system will not and does not get put on the network, because of the already spoken of vulnerabilities.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
The fact you're running an XP system means you are open to more security vulnerabilities than you can poke a stick at.
Running a system that is long passed it's end of life cycle is complete and utter folly.
I know that on the whole, we are either afraid of change or don't wish to do so because what we have works, but, the fact that should you run in to trouble, you will find little to no support for the current system you have, save from those that still retain some knowledge of said system, puts you in a position that I personally would rather not see you in.
Ultimately, however, it is your choice.
yet, you really are not in a position to complain when inevitably, if you'll pardon the expression, the fit hits the shan.

Sarah is right. If your system dies and one day it will! You might want to just bite the bullet and get an updated system. You can use your old browser and system forever all you like. If and when it breaks. It will be your lookout. Just for your own piece and mind. You can’t stay on xp forever. I did not know NVDA at that time. My xp box would not allow me to upgrade to jaws 11. I downgraded to ten it wasn’t good enough. I had to downgrade to nine. Then I realized I had to just let that computer go. My xp days ended. I went to 7. Then xp was just a dead hourse. Now 7 is soon going to be a dead hourse.

there has been a change in security used on a lot
of sites and a browser that old won't even load pages from a great many sites
now. I don't know enough to discuss the issue technically. it isn't
certain, but I consider it a good guess that things will change over time in
such ways that even current browsers now won't be able to work with a lot of
sites properly many years from now.
Also, I don't use JAVA unless a site requires it,
but increasingly, sites require it to see all the content on the
site.
I don't want to pursue the topic on this list
because it is something that should be on the chat list or another list, but I'm
saying that you are making factually incorrect statements. You can't use
old programs indefinitely.

You may use it, whether it is a good idea or not,
for awhile, it may be a year or two, it may be a number of years. But at
some point, it will become so limited in the number of sites that work with it
that you will have to change. As browsers age, sites change and older
browsers will work with increasingly less of them. So saying that
you will never change makes no sense. Saying that you will use x or y as
long as you can makes sense. I'm not saying it makes good sense, but it
makes sense in matching facts about long term use.

I didn't say they wouldn't work. I'm saying
that some sites work better in important ways with Firefox and some with
Chrome. I would think that two Chrome-based browsers would handle the same
sites poorly, or would be likely to. I'm saying that using two browsers,
the new Microsoft one, which is still in beta and I don't think you have it yet,
and Chrome from Google, means that you are using two browsers that are too
similar to get the advantage of using a combination like Chrome, any Chrome, and
Firefox.

The new Microsoft browser that will replace the current Edge is based on Chrome, the open source version. That is also what the Google Chrome browser is based on. I suspect that if one Chrome-based browser has problems with a web page or doesn't do something well on it, the other one will have the same or similar problems. Therefore, I would urge you to place Firefox on the machine. You may want to use it as your secondary browser, for sites that don't work well with Chrome. Internet Explorer is going to be retired. I don't know when, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is retired within between one and two years. And it is very old technologically. It hasn't received anything but security updates for years.
In short, you are probably using two browsers that will respond very similarly on web pages and Internet Explorer will be retired and is already not working well on some web pages because it is so technologically archaic.

Re: Windows 10 App Essentials 19.11.2, important announcements on Version 1809 support

Hi, So it looks like this is an issue with Add-on Updater then. I’m wondering if you have the latest version of that ad-on as well, and if yes, this is concerning – you might be the first person to report this odd behavior. I’ll keep an eye on it. Cheers,

Hi Joseph,
I was able to update the app from the web site. Thanks for your suggestion.
From: nvda@nvda.groups.io <nvda@nvda.groups.io> On Behalf Of Joseph Lee
Hi, Can you try installing it from community add-ons website instead of using Add-on Updater? If you can install it from addons.nvda-project.org, chances are that it might be an Add-on Updater problem. Cheers, Joseph

Version 1909 os build 18363.476
From: nvda@nvda.groups.io <nvda@nvda.groups.io> On Behalf Of Joseph Lee
Hi, Hmmm, you can do this by listening to what the version YYMM info is. Another method is using Resource Monitor add-on – if you’ve got that add-on, press NVDA+Shift+number row 6, and it’ll tell you which Windows version you are using. Cheers, Joseph

Hi Joseph,
I use the add on updater. How do I retrieve the build info using winver? From: nvda@nvda.groups.io <nvda@nvda.groups.io> On Behalf Of Joseph Lee
Hi, What method did you use to attempt to install this? If it is add-on Updater, chances are that it might be something I need to investigate from that add-on; if it is downloading the add-on from community add-ons website, that gives me a reason to investigate more. The most likely explanation might be that you might be running 1803, which may not be the case. Can you tell me exactly which build of Windows 10 you’ve got? You can check it by opening Start menu, typing “winver” (without quotes) to search box and pressing Enter. If the build is 17134, this will explain why because Windows 10 App Essentials requires build 17763 or later. Cheers, Joseph
From: nvda@nvda.groups.io <nvda@nvda.groups.io> On Behalf Of Gary Metzler
Hi Joseph,
Unfortunately this new version of the add on still gives me an error saying not compatible with this version of windows. I am using 1903 and nvda February 1st.
From: nvda@nvda.groups.io <nvda@nvda.groups.io> On Behalf Of Joseph Lee
Hi all,
Windows 10 App Essentials 19.11.2 is now available. This release adds support for announcing results of tile rearrangements – after arranging Action Center quick actions or Start menu tiles, NVDA will announce new item position or item information. As always, the new update is available via community add-ons website or via Add-on Updater.
IMPORTANT: if you are using Windows 10 Version 1809 (October 2018 Update), please read the following to the end:
Support for Version 1809 from Windows 10 App Essentials is coming to a close. Depending on which channel you are subscribed to and NVDA version you’ve got:
Thanks. Cheers, Joseph

Hi, Can you try installing it from community add-ons website instead of using Add-on Updater? If you can install it from addons.nvda-project.org, chances are that it might be an Add-on Updater problem. Cheers, Joseph

Hi Joseph,
Unfortunately this new version of the add on still gives me an error saying not compatible with this version of windows. I am using 1903 and nvda February 1st.

Hi all,
Windows 10 App Essentials 19.11.2 is now available.
