Hang on a moment, none of my machines have a monitor and I've had no issues with previous operating systems at all. are we saying here that the windows 10 anniversary edition will sit and sulk if it has no monitor connected. This would be very inconvenient!

If you are using a desktop, you should be able to simply leave the monitor off (although my PC looks for the monitor connection and won't start if it doesn't detect that the monitor is already on (which is quite annoying as the monitor actually is on, it just takes a second or so to come on). If you are using a laptop, you might try pressing WINDOWS+P to "Project" the screen and choose "Second screen only" to in effect turn off your main screen. So what the new colour option does is simply make the Windows settings display with white text on a black background rather than black text on white, which is the default for most things. You can set it in the windows options (WINDOWS+i), choose personalisation, then colours then "Choose your app mode" and set it to "Dark" rather than "Light". Regards Quentin. The left column has user account / file explorer / settings / power, the middle column has recent apps then all apps (first letter navigation jumps straight to first app of that letter in full apps list), and the right column has the windows 8 style tiles. You can still only pin to the right column but at least you can press the context menu to get recent files for any program there now which is nice. What annoys me is that to shut down from here involves: 1. Windows 2. tab (takes you to the left column first, if you'd press down arrow you'd have started moving down the middle app list column). 3. down arrow four times. 4. enter 5. down arrow 6. enter. If you want to do it quicker, you can press WINDOWS+X , press U then U again, or windows+m to go to desktop then alt+f4, or just press the power button on your machine (I know that last one is easiest of all, I've just never got into the habit of doing it as that used to be strongly avoided due to data loss :) There's a new dark mode which you can get to without a registry hack now which affects mostly just settings but does make it a bit easier for some. Of course, in the previous messages, the replacement was another word which could be spoken, so it worked, in my case I wanted co to be pronounced as just that with no frills, maybe worth a mention for anyone else in the same position. unfortunately, after doing this, the word course is pronounced curse and could pronounced cooled, also cooled is hardly pronounce at all. Re: Some observations on usability aspects with Firefox and NVDA

Hello, to my knowledge there is no MSAA buffer as such. Rather, NVDA uses IA2 to communicate with Firefox and thereby obtains the data with which it populates its own document review buffer. For some screen readers this is not even a buffer. For NVDA it is.Gene <gsasner@...> schrieb am Mi., 27. Juli 2016 um 09:12 Uhr:

Re: Some observations on usability aspects with Firefox and NVDA

As far as I know, screen-readers that use the MSAA
buffer, such as NVDA, don't display the page or let you move around in it before
the page has fully loaded.
I''m not sure what is causing the behavior you are
describing. If a page fully refreshes, the expected behavior is that you
will be returned to the top and reading will begin from the top. If some
certain part of the page is being refreshed, my speculation is that that may
account for what you are experiencing if you are reading that part of the
page.
I'm not sure if you can control such
behavior. But you can try changing a setting in options.
Do you know how to find the checkbox that says
something like warn me when sites attempt to redirect or reload the
page?
If not, I'll tell you. But I have
no idea if that setting would have any effect on this problem because if
anything, only a part of a page is being refreshed, such as a region
containing updating information such as a stock ticker or certain text on a page
that may need to be kept current. I doubt this setting has any effect on
such behavior, though I don't know.

I experimented with Messenger.com,

straight forward, and you can just enter on the link of a friend, send them a

Re: Windows 10 Anniversary Update
Quentin Christensen
Hi Bhavya, The new colour option doesn't allow for complete dimming of the screen.

Hi Arlene,
Yes as you are doing now will work exactly the same in Windows 10. It's only if you access shut down from the Start menu that it's in a different place.

Michael, I no longer have any computers running the Windows 8 or 8.1 OS so can’t check it for you. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I on this list can answer the question.
Thx, Albert

Hi. This is really good. Can you do this for windows 8? Thanks. From Michael.
From: nvda@nvda.groups.io [mailto:nvda@nvda.groups.io] On Behalf Of Albert Ruel
I added shortcuts to my desktop for ShutDown and ReStart as follows:
1. Windows D to go to the Desktop. 2. Control Space Bar to unselect. 3. Press the Context Menu key and down arrow to New Submenu, then right arrow to open the submenu. Down arrow to Shortcut and press the Enter key. 4. Copy and paste the following text in the Edit Field that appears, then Tab to the Next Button and press the Space Bar. C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t 0 5. Type a Name for your new shortcut in the Edit Field that appears, then Tab to the Finish Button and press the Space Bar. That’s it, you’re done. You now have a shortcut on the Desktop for shutting down your computer.
*Note: if you wish to add a Restart the Computer shortcut to the Desktop, you merely have to use the below text when following the above instructions. C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /r /t 0
