Re: Braille display not working on websites

Hello,
Did you get this figured out? I seem to recall you are using brltty. In linux you must specifically enable braille input in the config file. perhaps there is a similar requirement in windows.

If connecting via USB, you need the driver from HIMS installed. See: https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html#Hims for our info on it, and the link to the driver: http://www.himsintl.com/upload/HIMS_USB_Driver_v25.zip Regards Quentin.

Re: NVDA: QUESTION
Christo Vorster <christo.vorster.klavierstem@...>
Hi Quentin
Thanks for the explanation. I must admit, I always was, and still is amazed tha the developers are able to update NVDA so frequently. Yes, you are correct that whe all would prefer a stable release.
I can just repeat, thanks for the stunning work, you, and everybody involved in developing NVDA are doing. I’m sure I speak on behalf of all the users, you gave us the best possible alternative to affordable speech available. I am of the opinion that NVDA is probably the best speech package available.
Thanks again, and have a nice day
From: nvda@nvda.groups.io [mailto:nvda@nvda.groups.io] On Behalf Of Quentin Christensen
You haven't missed anything Christo, and yes we'd normally have the third release out by now and be working on the 4th. We're making a couple of big changes under the hood for 2019.3 - they shouldn't be too obvious when running NVDA, but they are key to future works: - Speech Refactor will make it easier to update speech in future (eg to add earcons or reorder speech) - Moving to Python 3 is crucial, as Python 2 is about to reach end-of-life and will no longer be supported from early next year. Also, people who have learnt to code Python in recent years will have learnt Python 3 so this will make it easier for them to get involved with NVDA.
These changes have necessitated updates to many add-ons, and to ensure that users are not left without working add-ons, we are not rushing NVDA 2019.3 but have been working with add-on developers to ensure everything transitions as smoothly as possible for everyone once NVDA 2019.3 does come out.
If you're curious about your favourite add-ons, you can view this list compiled by Joseph Lee (Thanks Joseph!) on the Add-ons site: https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/nvdapy3.en.html
You can also download the latest NVDA Alpha snapshots from https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/snapshots/ to try them out.
At this stage, we're expecting NVDA 2019.3, when it comes out, will be the last release this year. We know everyone likes a new release, but we're sure you like a stable release more so that's what we're determined to bring you :)
Regards
Quentin.

NVDA: QUESTION
Christo Vorster <christo.vorster.klavierstem@...>
Hi Group
I have missed quite a lot of messages, thus the following question
Currently I have version 2019.2.1 running. I got used to the fact that, by this time of the year, version .3 was out and we were awaiting version .4. I am just curious regarding what is the situation.
I don’t have a problem with 2019.2.1, but am just curious.
Thanks for the stunning work you all are doing.

Christo Vorster (Worcester, South Africa)

Re: 2 NVDA questions
Gene
New main steps start on new lines.
To see one link per line, which should be the
default but isn't, open browse mode settings with control NVDA key b.
Tab to use screen layout when supported. it’s
a check box. Uncheck it. Tab to and activate the ok
button.
Then save the configuration with control NVDA key c.
If you have NVDA set to save
settings on exit, it will be saved when you close the program but I'm telling
you how to save it manually since I don't know how you have NVDA
set.

Re: NVDA and spell checking in Notepad++
Adlevision
Oh well, apparently one cannot execute plugin menu commands within a macro. And the shortcut mapper is completely inaccessible. I Added next/prev misspelled word hotkeys with sighted assistance. Anyone else in this boat can close NPP, use Windows notepad to open the shortcuts.xml file located in the NPP username\appdata\roaming folder, and then paste the following text in the <plugins> section of the file:
<PluginCommand moduleName="DSpellCheck.dll" internalID="1" Ctrl="yes" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="77" />
<PluginCommand moduleName="DSpellCheck.dll" internalID="2" Ctrl="yes" Alt="no" Shift="yes" Key="77" />
Key 77 is "m," so this adds hotkeys for next misspelling (control M) and previous (shift-control-m).

Hi Adriani, This will be the first conference I will attend. If help is needed, I am ready and willing to volunteer. I am not an expert on NVDA but I have moderated discussion groups before on various topics and I fluently speak English, French, and Spanish and served as a translator in all three languages. I am also a certified mediator and conflict resolution facilitator. Just let me know how best to serve. Dear NVDA community,
after more than 8 months in which we spent exciting time together to organize the NVDACon 2019, we are almost there!
The conference will start on november 15th 2019 at 21:00 UTC with the opening forum as everyone should already know.
This year’s conference is held for the first time in november. Join us on a very inlightning jurney during which we will find out that NVDA is everywhere! This year we will be proud to have Google as well as Firefox on our conference. For more details, check the preliminary schedule at https://www.nvdacon.org/2019-program-and-schedule
In any case, there are plenty of reasons why this NVDACon will be unique!
We will be glad to see you at NVDACon 2019.
Best regards Adriani Co chair of NVDACon board team

Here is the full list of NVDA keys. https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvdaTracAttachments/455/keycommands%20with%20 laptop%20keyboard%20layout.html If you look through these you should find all the review keys that you need. Re: screen review
Gene
There are different review modes and just asking
what the review keys are will leave you unable to review the screen in many
cases. Therefore, you need to use the user guide to learn about them or a
good tutorial, whichever you prefer. Of course, there is always personal
instruction but I assume you don't want that.
If you want to understand object navigation, you
may need a good tutorial. I'll let others discuss what is available that
covers the subject well. I'm not familiar enough with such material.
If you want to use screen review and not learn object navigation for now, you
may well understand the user guide discussion. Screen review is similar to
the kind of screen review you may know in JAWS.
But there are situations where you must use object
navigation, so it depends on what you want and need to do.

You could check the help manual built into NVDA but if you are using desktop layout with a numpad on your keyboard I would suggest that Use NVDA plus 1 to turn keyboard input help on and then listen to the announcements as you press the 7 8 and 9 keys on the keypad, then 4,5,6, and finally working down through the rest of the keypad. Remember to keep listening as some keys, such as numpad 5 have different functions depending on how many keys that you press it.nump You can switch in and out of the input help with insert 1 at any time to try using the review commands.
