Changing synth on the fly
Hello all,
For the first time I-ve installed Windows10 in English, instead of Italian.
Now, for the most part I use English as my operating language on pc, but I do have quite a lot of mail in Italian.
Since i like the English voice / George / of OneCore, but I can-t stand the Italian voices,
I-d ilke to use another tts for Italian.
I have at the back of my mind that therewas either a command or an add/on to change tts on teh fly.
Is that true, or have I just made it up_
What is the command, or where can I get the add/on_
Thanks, sorry about this basic question, but I never needed this before.
Ciao,
Ollie

When you want to "take time off" from any Groups.io Group
I have noticed recently that we've had several members who were long time members unsubscribe and then resubscribe several months later, and by all indications this was to "take a break" or "take time off" from the group. It's not that one cannot do this, but if you do then your membership ceases and when you resubscribe your first message will be held for moderation, as is typical as a spam control measure. It is, however, possible to simply suspend e-mail messages from this, or any given Groups.io group, but without removing your membership and creating a hold on your first message when you resubscribe. The easiest way to temporarily turn off messages from a group is to send a message to, GROUPNAME+nomail@groups.io. In the case of this group, that would be nvda+nomail@groups.io or nvda+nomail@nvda.groups.io; either should work. When you want to resume your participation, if you've been getting single messages prior to your hiatus, then send a message to, GROUPNAME+single@groups.io. In the case of this group that would be either nvda+single@groups.io or nvda+single@nvda.groups.io; either should work. If you were reading via digest or just getting special notices, use one of the following:
GROUPNAME+digest@groups.io
To receive plain digests instead of individual messages
GROUPNAME+fulldigest@groups.io
To receive full featured digests instead of individual messages
GROUPNAME+summary@groups.io
To receive a daily summary instead of individual messages
GROUPNAME+special@groups.io
To only receive special messages
where you'd substitute nvda for GROUPNAME in the addresses above. The same basic pattern applies with regard to other groups. You can also use any of the above addresses to switch your subscription type as well, if you're already receiving single messages and want one of the digests, then send a message to the appropriate address for the digest type you want and you'll be switched to it. Vice versa if you want to go the other direction. --

Re: Reading Margin Comments in Word with NVDA
I'd update, if I were you, because later versions do this far better. Anyway, you could To report any comments at the current caret position, press NVDA+alt+c. All comments for the document, along with other tracked changes, can also be listed in the NVDA Elements List when selecting Annotations as the type.
This Microsoft article also gives alternatives, but I've found their screen reader help articles to be more for JAWS folks but still, give it a read.

Reading Margin Comments in Word with NVDA
Hi NVDA Group,
I'm returning after a few months hiatus, and have a question per usual.
A friend sent me a response to a word document I produced with comments said to be in the margin. I tried the key combo NVDA key or insert, alt c, and it did not work in regular mode or browse mode, nvda key space. I could not find the preferences menu choices, so to turn comments on, if it is off.
I am using NVDA 2018.4 and generally love it! Any further tips to resolve are appreciated.

Re: help with Clip Contents Designer add on please
Hi Luke! Thank you! That was very kind of you to take time out of your day and share your knowledge with lil‘ ol‘ me. Both problems are now solved thanks to you. You are right it is near the bottom I’ve simply just missed it. That was my first input Jester And I did have a little trouble with NVDA excepting a new key combination but I got it figured out. As for the second issue you mentioned that when you download this add on you have the option to turn copy emulation on or off… This is probably true but I don’t remember having the option and I don’t know if I turned it on or off LOL. I should have mentioned yesterday that yes, I did see the Checkbox“ Confirm to emulate copy“ But it was already unchecked. I have been messing around in there And this is weird but the check box is now checked but I am not getting the dialogue box anymore. I did something in there and I’m not sure what I did. I know that’s not helpful but things are working for me. Thanks again Luke. Never under estimate the power of a Luke😎

I am hoping to do a input gesture and change the copy added text to clipboard command which is NVDA + windows + C to something else because that key combination is too awkward for me. I have never done a input gesture before. I went to preferences, input gestures, text review and saw that 1 of the 2 key board commands this add on uses is there which is described as clear the clipboard in the manual, but when in the text review menu it says’ Deletes the added text and the content of the clipboard “ . I can’t find the command I want to change with a input gesture which is NVDA + windows + c which adds selected text to the clipboard. I am thinking if one of the two commands are there the other is hopefully there too. Does anybody know where I can find it? You have to go way down to the bottom of the Text review subtree. Quite near the end, you will find this:
Retrieves the selected string or the text from the previously set start marker up to and including the current position of the review cursor, and adds it to the clipboard.
Expand that item, go down one, and you will find what you're looking for.
Also, Since I have downloaded this add on every time I use the plain copy to clipboard NVDA + C, I get a dialogue box coming up saying if I want to confirm and copy to the clipboard. That displeases me very much LOL. Very annoying Lol. Does anyone know how to get rid of that? I did go to, preferences, settings, then Clip Contents Designer and there was options in there, but couldn’t find what I was looking for. Yeah, that's the place. Go there again. Tab over to "Select the actions which require previous confirmation". Once there, press down arrow until you get to the checkbox "Confirm to emulate copy", and uncheck it. You had the option to turn copy emulation on or off when installing the add-on--apparently you said yes at that time. Anyway, uncheck it, tab to OK, press it, and you should have the desired behavior.
You may also want to turn off "Confirm to emulate cut" while you're at it. However, before turning either of them off, look at the following combo box. You may just want to change when those confirmations happen. The default is "always", but there are two other options that may be more to your liking without turning off the emulation options.
Hth.

in order to be able to use it with NVDA. The problem is
that the Java Access Bridge will only load if the
accessibility service is running. Thus if NVDA is not
running while I start the application, I won't be able
to work with the program since the access bridge isn't
loaded.
On a similar note: if you restart NVDA while working
with the program, you also lose the access bridge and
need to restart the program as well.
Best,
Henk

Subject: [nvda] NVDA freezes in
IntelliJ
Hi,
Using NVDA 2019.2.1, NVDA randomly freezes when I open
IntelliJ IDE
(Community edition 2019.2.4).
When it happens, NVDA hangs and won't report anything
(also when
switching to other applications with alt+tab). Also
IntelliJ hangs and
will not open the current project. The only thing I
can do is to start
Windows Narrator, which does keep working, and end the
IntelliJ process
via the task manager. When the IntelliJ process is
killed NVDA unfreezes.
Is there a way to make sure, or to increase the
chance, that I can start
IntelliJ without NVDA and IntelliJ locking each other?
When NVDA is back I have the following snippet in the
log viewer:
WARNING - watchdog._watcher (10:08:48.759):

Re: NVDA freezes in IntelliJ
Hi. Last I tried to use PyCharm a few months back, it wasn't at
all accessible. A few Python enabled IDES have come along, like
Leclipse which is really Eclipse for Python development, VSCode on
which you can install the Python development tools and Visual
studio which is more of the same but with more bells and
whistles. Cheers!

I remember trying PyCharm a couple of years ago and it appeared
to b not accessible at all - just wondering if things have
improved since then?

Maybe you can contact JetBrains.

I am aware of the accessibility history of IntelliJ. It is
getting better though. Partly because Android Studio is also
based on IntelliJ, and for Android Studio they do seem to work
a little bit on accessibility.
For me the choice for IntelliJ is more because that is what's
being used in industry. Since all my colleagues use IntelliJ,
and Eclipse does not support the way our project is organized,
I rather use what everyone else is using (if possible).
However the problem I have is not with IntelliJ accessibility.
I think there is a problem with NVDA and the Java access
bridge in general. I was hoping that someone might have a
solution to that.
I'm also using JDK8, since that's what I require for our
project. I am running the latest update (JDK/JRE 1.8.0_231),
so I assume I also have the most up-to-date access bridge
included.

HI. IntelliJ Idea has had problems with accessibility
since time immemorial. Perhaps you would consider
eclipse? Or if it is Android programming you are in to,
then Android Studio? Those aren't the best accessibility
wise, but they do work much better with NVDA. Also, you
might want to check if you have the Latest version of the
Java SDK as they concequently come with the latest version
of the Java Access Bridge. I have no idea of the degree
of accessibility of versions later then version 8 though
because I have stuck to Java 8 and all it's builds since
it's inception. Cheers!

Re: help with Clip Contents Designer add on please
Hi Luke. I don't use this add-on, but I went and installed it to see if I could answer your question. The things I'll do for people with the same name... :) You wrote: I am hoping to do a input gesture and change the copy added text to clipboard command which is NVDA + windows + C to something else because that key combination is too awkward for me. Quite near the end, you will find this: Retrieves the selected string or the text from the previously set start marker up to and including the current position of the review cursor, and adds it to the clipboard. Hth. Luke (one of the other ones)
