nvda addon update and the automatic update settings

Hi all.

On updating to the latest addon update I noticed that the updator did not remember my disabling of automatic updates settings and reset it to defaults on nvda 2019.2.1 so if you disabled autoupdate you will have to do so again.

latest NVDA?

Hi list my add on updater just tried to update and can’t am still using 19.2 any word on when the next NVDA is out?  I did listen to the blind bargain podcast and it did say that the new NVDA was going to be in beta longer than usual.  Also is that why my winamp add on didn’t work right?  I did mention it on my radio show because there is a chat on out of sight for the programming language NVDA uses.  Blind bargains says that NVDA will be moving to python version 3 and they are saying lots of new features.  When that is ready I’ll just go and update the add ons manually.  I’ll have to post it to our station chat list.  So any word on when 2019.3 NVDA hits?

You can't generalize from one experience.  I tried the beta and, while I didn't use read to end much, I had no problem with the small amount I had read.  If you specify what problem you had, it might help the developers look into it but since I've not seen any complaints about it until now, and the beta has been out for perhaps two weeks, perhaps more, this may be a problem with your system and may not be a general one.

Hello All:

I had to go back to NVDA 2019.2 from NVDA 2019.3 because it was not
working well with read all on any program either email, web browser, or
any other program that uses say all to read documents!

In NVDA 2019.2 it all works well!

NVDA 2019.3 sure needs a whole lot of work before it is ready for
prime time!

Add-on Updater 20.01.1 #addonrelease

Hi all,

First, apologies for compatibility issues many of you have experienced with recent releases from me. As a result, I’m delaying release wave 4 (Control Usage Assistant, Enhanced Touch Gestures, GoldWave, Object Location Tones) until NVDA 2019.3 release candidate is released (originally scheduled for January 6th).

Add-on Updater 20.01.1 is on its way. This release rectifies shortcomings discovered in 20.01 by:

  1. Mentioning steps to pause add-on updates: if you are using NVDA 2019.2.1 or earlier, an additional text has been added to the message you get after installing this add-on, telling you how you can pause automatic add-on update checks for now (until 2019.3 is released).
  2. Release context matters: because NVDA 2019.3 is in beta testing phase, message text shown for 2019.2.1 users will reflect whether or not 2019.3 stable version is available or not.
  3. Focus on the message: the first time you restart NVDA after installing this add-on, automatic add-on update check will be paused. This is to ensure that you focus on the message, understand it, and take necessary steps. Automatic add-on update check will resume after restarting NVDA a second time provided that you didn’t pause automatic add-on update check facility. Manual add-on update check will still function.

Originally I was going to partially revert recent update releases, but decided against that because:

  1. It will break features in one or more add-ons (this affects StationPlaylist users the most).
  2. It will lead to further confusion, especially for people using NVDA 2019.3 alpha/beta where an “upgrade” is really a downgrade.

Thanks.

Cheers,

Joseph

Styles toolbar placement?

I'm working through the NV Access Microsoft word training book. I've found, for various reasons, that working with different styles is far easier than initially thought. But, the keyboard command to open the styles toolbar is extremely awkward. I tried to add the toolbar to my quick access toolbar, but there are so many, style, commands not in the ribbon, I can't figure out which is the styles toolbar. Does anyone know which one it is?

I mainly use the styles toolbar to select all text of a certain style. Is there a way to add that command to the quick access toolbar? I could create a macro to do this all for me, but that's way too many steps and the VBA isn't accessible with NVDA.

Re: Problem with an updating of some addons

Hi,
2019.3 is available in beta form at the moment.
Regarding recent updates: incompatibility is intentional - it was planned
for months.
I'll release Add-on Updater 20.01.1 which will advise you to turn off
automatic updates if you are using NVDA 2019.2.1 for now.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hello group,
Today I have found out, that some addons are available. When I wanted to
download the addon Systrai list, Nvda said, that a new version is not
compatible with version of Nvda 2019.2.1.
When I wanted update Nvda 2019.3, I found out, that no update is available.
What can I do for I could have a new version of Nvda?
Is a new version of Nvda stable version?

No wonder day before yesterday, when NVDA started, an update Window came up on the AddOn Updater; when I went into check for updates manually via NVDA+h and A, it insisted that there were no updates available and gave the Close button. So this is why this is happening then for those with NVDA 2019.2.1. thanks for the headsup. I thought maybe I was going crazy!

Save the settings as usual.

Then close nvda and then open it again.

This will stop the annoying popup asking to update.

Re: Can't update Vocalizer with NVDA's latest?

Laughing Thunder

You cannot be stuck without a voice as NVDA will default to the Windows 10 voices if it can't load Vocalizer or any other synthesizer. I'll have to leave your other questions to others on this list as I don't have time to answer them right now.

On 1/2/2020 10:31 AM, Gerardo Corripio wrote:

I tried going ahead and updating to the new Vocalizer Driver, but because I’m still running NVDA’s latest stable version it won’t allow for the update, thus I’ve several questions for when the time comes to update myNVDA; I’m worried I’ll have to cope with a silent NVDA, and my family doesn’t know much of technology or computers, to be able to if this should arise, help me out in the meantime.

1.-What’s the best course of action, then when updating to the latest NVDA when it comes out, so that I won’t be without a voice, when the NVDA runs? If I install the Beta of NVDA in portable mode, and I update Vocalizer that way, will the upgraded voice come up speaking when the actual stable NVDA IS RELEASED?

2.-Because I’ve Vocalizer to run as my default voice, would you guys recommend then maybe defaulting to a windows10 voice to be on the safe side, and then update the Vocalizer Driver from that perspective?

Re: nvda 2019.3 addons notice

Hi,
This setting will stop automatic add-on updates, but manual method is still available. You should not use manual method if you wish to stay with current add-ons for the time being.

Joseph

Re: NVDA upgrade problem

Hi,

The intent behind that message presented by Add-on Updater was to warn you that 2019.3 will break compatibility with many add-ons, and there are add-ons that will be compatible with 2019.3 once released. That’s why I said yesterday that those using 2019.2.1 can ignore upcoming releases for now.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi Group,

I do not see the NVDA 2019.3 version available as of yet. I did get the add on updater requesting me to update the add-ons to the versions that are incompatible with 2019.2.1.  I wonder why this has been done.  Why not hold off with the latest add on versions until the final release of 2019.3?

Checked once again for NVDA update and said no updates using the latest version

No, but you can go to flight aware's website, I think it's flightaware.com and track officially flied flight plans and cruse altitudes and routs sans sids and stars that way. Is this what you wanted? You can even fly those routs if you want to as well.

Yes to the first question – when you do upgrade to 2019.3, the new add-on updates will become compatible. As for the second question, it is in the works.

And for those who are currently using NVDA 2019.2, you mentioned about ignoring them for now, but when We install install the updated NVDA, will the updates be available still from within AddOn updater? And also isn’t AddOn Updater going to become a core NVDA feature, so as no longer needing the AddOn separtely?

Hello all,

The next wave of January 2020 add-on releases consists of letting go of add-ons I’m no longer maintaining. These include Easy Table Navigator, Golden Cursor, ObjPad, SystrayList, and Virtual Review. These five add-ons (plus Screen Curtain) were maintained on behalf of the community for a while, and in order to reduce my workload, I’m letting go of these. For some, another maintainer will be maintaining them, while others are looking for new homes.

Update details (updates will show up in a few hours from now):

  • Easy Table Navigator, ObjPad, Virtual Review: updated with modern NVDA features.
  • Golden Cursor and SystrayList: not only updated to use modern NVDA features, they are incompatible with old releases. For SystrayList, donation request dialog has been removed.

Note that all of these add-ons now require NVDA 2019.3 or later (if you are using NVDA 2019.2.1 or earlier, you can ignore these updates for now).

Cheers,
