Its not showing up anywhere but the icon on the desktop. When I open it it puts me in settings which says nothing about which screen reader you wish to use with it.

It does but some add-ons might not yet be compatible, which is why I would recommend creating a portable copy, also just in case you run into any issues.

Hi.

The NVDA 2019.3 will have screen curtain. After installing the beta you can create a gesture which will allow you to enable the screen curtain. The screen curtain turns the screen black. This means sighted folks will not be able to see what you are doing. My mum confirmed this, as she was not able to see anything I was doing while screen curtain on.

Hi

I will usually use a portable copy of NVDA to test stuff which I launch off my hard drive with a shortcut.

Below are the restrictions from the user guide for a portable version of NVDA.

3.1. Portable and Temporary Copy Restrictions
Apart from the inability to automatically start during and/or after log-on, the portable and temporary copies of NVDA also have the following restrictions:
• The inability to interact with applications running with administrative privileges, unless of course NVDA itself has been run also with these privileges (not recommended).
• The inability to read User Account Control (UAC) screens when trying to start an application with administrative privileges.
• Windows 8 and later: the inability to support input from a touchscreen.
• Windows 8 and later: the inability to provide features such as browse mode and speaking of typed characters in Windows Store apps.
• Windows 8 and later: audio ducking is not supported.

AOM is a set of features still under development that allow JavaScript developers to have better access to the accessibility parameters of a widget on a web page then they would have with just ARIA. I believe web develoeprs need to toggle the AOM flag in order to use internal reviews of the accessible properties that Firefox will present to the iAccessible2 protocol that screen readers use to talk to screen readers. There was some concern about 6 months ago when Apple introduced Accessible  Events as an option to be disabled in Safari. These too are related to AOM. If you want a technical discussion of AOM the below article might help:

Web Components and the Accessibility Object model (AOM)

Of course this is a very technical article aimed at web developers and accessibility experts.

Compatability of Bluetooth Audio addon in NVDA 19.3

Just press NVDA-control-S then tab to output device and choose your internal soundcard and hit enter. Then save the configuration with NVDA-control-C and you are done.

Hi friends,

Just a quick query, it may well even be a simple one.

I Am using a Microsoft surface Pro and I connect this to my Bos Bluetooth speaker for music playback.

Is there a way that I can use NVDA on the internal Surface Pro sound card and speakers and then just leave all other sounds on the Bluetooth device?

Many thanks in anticipation for any help.

To clarify the use case scenario for Developer toolkit, its audience is any blind or visually impaired software/web developer who is required to create user interfaces such as desktop UI elements, or web pages through the use of pure CSS, HTML, or any other page layout framework like Bootstrap, React, JQuery, or front-end frameworks like Angular, DJango, Flask, and others. It isn't a desktop publishing assistant. Therefore, it doesn't work in Word, Publisher, Adobe Illustrator, and Creative Suite. Although Creative Suite output is nothing more than web content, so Developer toolkit will help in this case. Some of the frameworks Developer toolkit works with include: Native Win32 GUI objects, MFC GUI objects, dgango, Flask, Python, PHP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript and any framework based upon it, WX (a Python GUI library), Java and Swing, .net Winforms, .net Webforms, and a whole host of others I can't name.

As long as the system sees the Bluetooth device as a separate sound card you should be able to do it.

Subject: [nvda] NVDEA aAnd Sound Cards

I tried it and had to shut down because the reaction time was tremendously slow. So, I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and install it over 2019.2.1

3.1. Portable and Temporary Copy Restrictions

Apart from the inability to automatically start during and/or after

log-on, the portable and temporary copies of NVDA also have the

following restrictions:

• The inability to interact with applications running with

administrative privileges, unless of course NVDA itself has been run

also with these privileges (not recommended).

• The inability to read User Account Control (UAC) screens when trying

to start an application with administrative privileges.

• Windows 8 and later: the inability to support input from a touch screen.

• Windows 8 and later: the inability to provide features such as

browse mode and speaking of typed characters in Windows Store apps.

• Windows 8 and later: audio ducking is not supported.

i have a question about one item for accessibility of firefox:

hello nvda users and developers.
can someone please explain for me the usage and benefit or
disadvantages of activating this item in firefox about:config?
this item was introduced first in firefox 51.
accessibility.AOM.enabled
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Glossary/AOM
is this really one useful feature to activate it?
thanks for any of your help, God bless you all!

No, your existing copy of NVDA will be replaced by the beta. You might want
to make a portable copy of the beta rather than installing it to your
machine.

Hi.
The NVDA 2019.3 will have screen curtain. After installing the beta you can
create a gesture which will allow you to enable the screen curtain. The
screen curtain turns the screen black. This means sighted folks will not be
able to see what you are doing. My mum confirmed this, as she was not able
to see anything I was doing while screen curtain on.

will work with it.
